WNST Radio in Baltimore reports the Baltimore Ravens will hold a 5:15 p.m. EST press conference to announce the signing of unrestricted free agent CB Samari Rolle (Titans). Contract terms were undisclosed.


....The rich get richer.... :(

Derrick Mason will help them a lot plus they can get another receiver in the draft. They will also be upgrading their offensive line soon. Looks like the Ravens are loading up for another Superbowl run.

Plus they also have the possibility of drafting a WR like Mark Clayton in the first round too :shocked

Baltimore is gonna be sick next season and I bet Terrell Suggs is gonna lead the league in sacks too!
 
Is he going to play offense? No? Then he's not going to help much. Their defense couldn't be much better before Rolle came along. Their offense is still bad.

When they sign/draft an impact player on offense, that'll be news.

They got Mason so he'll help out some, but with Boller throwing him the ball the offense might still be in trouble. Hopefully Boller improves this year.

Are you thinking straight? Good corners allow the defense to do alot more with their other 9 players. That equals more turnovers near the other teams endzone. That equals a short field, which we all know means more points.
 
They're still in a similar place as they were last season. They've got McAllister and Rolle, but Baxter is gone and Deion might be gone too. They'll still have two good corners with no real good NB. Their offense needs work still.

I seen on Ravens insider that Deion called Samari 10 mins before the Ravens announced the deal, so Deion might return next year. They still have Dale Carter and he was injured last season, but the FO believe he will make a recovery and play this year. They should be fine with the nickel situation though.
 
The Ravens have an offer sheet made for Kelly Herndon to play NB. Deion will also likely come back. They are currently in negotiations with OG Keydrick of the Steelers and are interested in OG Rick DeMulling of the Colts.

Rolle is an upgrade over Baxter. Derrick Mason is a HUGE upgrade over anyone they had last season. They are currently working on fixing the right side of their offensive line showing interest in both Keydrick Vincent and Rick DeMulling. Peter Boulware didn't play at all last season and is supposed to be fully recovered from his knee injury. I'm not sure how anyone can honestly say the Ravens are no better than they were last season.
 
It's easy. They're losing players like Hartwell, Baxter, and Douglas. As good as Mason is he still subject to how good his QB is, and Boller had a rough time last season even with Fassell as essientially his QB coach. Heap and Mason are their two biggest passing threats, and until Boller puts it together they'll be hard pressed to be better than they were last year.
 
Losing Hartwell means nothing since they are switching back to the 4-3. Baxter was replaced by Rolle so they upgraded at the #2 CB position. They are letting Marques Douglas walk because they have no use for him in the 4-3. Boller had a rough time last season because all the injuries they had. Todd Heap, Jamal Lewis, Jonathan Ogden, Edwin Mulitalo, Mike Flynn, Orlando Brown, Devard Darling and Travis Taylor all missed multiple games. He had the least amount of weapons to work with than any other QB in the league yet he still made strides in the 2nd half of the season. This season will be the first time that he has had a legitimate go-to WR in Derrick Mason. I think people are too critical of him at this point in his career. He has only started 24 games.

Baltimore had the 10th rated pass defense in the league last year. How much do you think Rolle will improve on that and do you think that amount of improvement is worth $30 million over 6 years.

Then explain to me how this would be better than devoting that money to the other side of the ball instead where they ranked 31st in the league.

I'm not thinking too straight so maybe you can help me out.
 
The Ravens are in negotiations with both OG Rick DeMulling and Keydrick Vincent. They also might bring in Ike Hilliard as their #2 WR. Then they have the draft to fill the rest of their holes.

Depsite the fact they're switching to a 4-3 they could've and would've found a spot for him if he was a bargain type of player. Mason isn't going to be a TO or a Moss. All he adds is one more weapon so they have a grand total of two. Teams will still be able to double him whenever they want to. I think people have reason to be critical of Boller. He's had plenty of experience, and he's still has a problem with making bad decisions. Every young QB goes through that, and there is a possibility that Boller will make better decisions. However, that's the same spot they were in last season. They had a solid defense, and they were counting on Boller to improve his decision making so that they could walk away with the AFC North. I'm just not convinced a so-so offense is going to get them over the hump in a division that is quickly improving. Pittsburgh was awesome last season, Cincinatti is only getting better, and Cleveland has new hope with Crennel.
 
What don't you understand. Hartwell would be a backup if he were brought back. Hartwell's strength is against the run. He is not an OLB. They can easily find another LB through the draft and develop him just like their did with Hartwell. They already have one by the name of Roderick Green who they are currently grooming. Mason will make as much of an impact on Boller as AJ did for Carr. 24 games is not plenty of experience. You are kidding yourself if you believe that. The Steelers and Bengals have done nothing to improve and the Browns are a couple of years away from making any noise in the NFL.
 
all i know is you have reed, lewis, mcallister, and rolle on defense...jamal lewis, mason, and heap on offense they will be a playoff contender without a doubt
 
The Steelers (15-1) don't need to improve they owned the division last year (5-1). The Bengals finished at 8-8, and the Ravens finished at 9-7. Both teams stunk it up on the road. So one win means that the Bengals aren't going anywhere? The Bengals have their offense working already, and their young QB is adjusting well. They're defense made strides towards the end of the season just like the Ravens offense made strides at the end of last season. They've got jsut as much chance of improving their team through the draft as Baltimore does. Their run defense is what needs the most help, and they faired well in coverage. The Browns have been a miserable franchise for a long time, and Crennel gives them knew hope just like Lewis gave the Bengals new hope. No one thought Lewis would have as immediate of an impact as he did so why can't Crennel?
 
No I just think the Ravens and Bengals aren't as different as everyone thinks they are. Many people have the same perception about the Bengals of being perpetual losers, but Lewis changed all that. Palmer (18 TD/18 INT) has shown more progress in 13 games than Boller (20 TD/ 20 INT) has shown in 25. Is he supposed to start getting worse now with added experience? I don't think so.

I think he is. When someone can not even acknowledge that Mason is an upgrade over Travis Taylor and Samari Rolle is an upgrade over Gary Baxter, you know they are a anti-Raven.
 
I'm not anti-any team. I just tell it how I see it, and I try to be realistic. Like everything there are varying points of view on everything. I've said Mason's an upgrade, but it still only gives them two targets. The Ravens likely lose two CBs in Sanders and Baxter and get back only Rolle. Their defense didn't need work. Their offense did. They still have two quailty CBs with no NB. They're still depending on a young QB to improve in order for their offense to be effective. That's the same position they were in last season when they brought Sanders out of retirement because they were worried about their depth at CB. It seems pretty obvious to me that the Bengals and Ravens aren't as far apart as you might think. However, we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

I don't want them to go out like they did the season after they won the super bowl when they had to release all those veterans because they were way over the cap :thumbdown

But that leaves Heap one on one and opens up running lanes for Jamal.
 
It is scary to say, but the Raven's fortunes rest solely on the progress of Boller.

Is it just me or have the Ravens gone through more starting QB's than anyone since "Brian the Offensive Genius" became their head coach?
