Sam Bradford traded to Vikings

Gave up a 1st round pick & more for him?????????? Looks like a panic move IMO. For a first they probably could have gotten someone less likely to be injured,

Well...depending on if they get the good Bradford or the injured Bradford he could keep them in contention.

Giving up a first for though....geez....

All sorts of questions about that.

Vikes are playing in a brand new stadium this year, there is familiarity with Bradford in Minn, early prognosis for Bridgewater return in 2017 is in question.

I know football IQ takes a serious drop outside TexansTalk, but I bet they tried & this is the best they could do.

Funny how I was reading this yesterday than I wake up and see this happen

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/vikings-gm-says-other-teams-121316602.html

“The one thing that I will not do — and I promise you this — is put our organization in a situation where it’s going to inhibit us or hurt us going into the future,” Spielman said, via USA Today. “By that, I mean people are asking for some crazy things. People think that you are desperate, and we are not going to do something that in my estimation, and talking with Coach Zim (Mike Zimmer) and our ownership, that puts us in a situation where we jeopardize the future of this franchise.”

This makes no sense to me. Aren't the Vikings happy with Bridgewater? I'm unaware of the length of Bridgewater's injury but giving up a 1st & a 4th for a one year rental is too much.

I think it gives us a clue as to what the Vikings thought was possible this year. Giving up a first & a future 4th tells me they weren't just shooting for a shot at the playoffs. They're aiming much higher.

... that they don't want to waste so much as a set of downs while AP's running on the downhill side of turning 30.

A first and a 4th for Bradford? Lol!

In all liklihood they could have done just as good with Keenum or a few other backups around the league. Hell, Fitzpatrick smoked Bradford's production last year. I don't get the allure that teams continue to have with Bradford especially after last season. Add the injury concerns "he" has had his entire career and this has got to be one of the biggest reaches I have seen in this entire decade. They weren't going to be a SB team this year any way.

:smh: you've got to be a special person to believe this has anything to do with anyone being enamored with Sam Bradford. I'm talking about serious error in deductive reason reasoning..

I thought you were done with me when you couldn't muster up a response in the other thread. I actually encouraged it. Sure didn't take long for you to back off of that.

Giving up a 1st round pick along with a 4th pretty much kills any argument you're trying to create. It isn't even something I care to debate either as I don't really care. Even Chip Kelly is laughing right now.

I was done with you in that discussion. Not that I couldn't muster a response, I had little confidence in your ability to follow.

I actually tried to let this go. I started to respond, then when I realized it was you I was responding to, I deleted everything, decided not to reply... then changed my mind again. I had to get it on record, another example where you take 1+1 and come up with 11.

You're obviously still mad about the other thread dude.

You just picked a fight and threw insults out without even making one argument for your cause. :kubepalm:

And someone less sucky.

I can't believe they gave up so much for Bradford. He's middle of the pack at best.

A 1st and a 4th for Bradford is crazy. I guess the Texans must have demanded at least a 1st and a 3rd for Weeden.

So in his career Bradford was the first overall pick, traded for a second round pick then traded for another first and a fourth. Did I miss the pro owl seasons since he was drafted?

This tells me that the Vikings see Bridgewater's injury as most likely career ending. But giving up and 1st and a 4th for Bradford??

I'm sure glad I'm not a Vikings fan right now.

This is to all you wannabe GMs who think the Vikes overpaid

Who else is out there that would have been better AND less costly?

I'll wait.

Like Molly said, AP won't last forever. The future is NOW for the Vikes.
Sometimes, especially when Fate bite you in the a$$, you gotta pay to stay in contention.

Do you people ever read the thread? I was being sarcastic, I assume they could have had Weeden (better than Bradford) for less than a 1st. Your wait is over.

Imagine you're a Vikes fan and your only option at QB is Shaun Hill. I imagine that today there is a little more HOPE in Minneapolis than there was on Friday.

I mean, if you're going to go out, go out in flames, right?

We'll see how it works out, but this has got to mean Bridgewater is going to be out for a long time.

Yeah, can you imagine if the Texans were wasting years of JJ's career and making no real effort to get a QB, how pissed many people would be?

Oh, wait...

Why would the Vikes being interested in Weeden since they already have an old, backup quality QB on their roster in Shaun Hill and decided he wouldn't cut it.
And this was NOT
:sarcasm:

Do you people ever WATCH the games? Weeden's Rating with the Texans: 107.7. Most fans think if Hoyer still had concussion symptoms the Texans would have had a chance in the playoff game with Weeden at QB. Not saying he is good, but generally accepted as 30 points per game better than the QB a team picked to start a playoff game. Even counting Weeden's terrible Cowboys experience from last year his rating for the season was 96.8.

Bradford's rating last year was 86.4, his career best is 90.9. Even if Weeden is just backup quality, he is still better than Bradford. And if you are looking for a one (or even two) year fill in for Bridgewater a healthy 33 year old is as good or better than a broken down injury prone 29 year old.

I AM imagining myself as a Vikes fan and I'm livid. The very day after their GM states "I will not mortgage our future", he goes out and pays that much for Sam Bradford, someone who has an NFL career passer rating of 81.0, while Shaun Hill's career passer rating is 85.2? Not to mention the fact that he can't stay on the field. I'll be surprised if he's not on IR by their bye week.

Bradford's record as a starter is 25-37 (40.3%) while Weeden's record as a starter is 6-19 (24%).
You are what your record says you are.

OK, you are one of those. As if Weeden spending most of his career in Cleveland makes no difference. By YOUR criteria (not mine) the answers to your question are Tim Tebow (29 years old, record 8-6 (57%)) and Vince Young (33 years old, record 31-19 (62%)). Even Shaun Hill's 44% (16-18) is better than Bradford. Discussion over, have a nice day.

Not disagreeing with you but the only QB they had on their roster was Shaun Hill. Desperate times lead to desperate measures.

Maybe so, but I fail to see how Bradford was going to make them SB bound. I honestly don't see much difference in him than with Keenum, Fitzpatrick, or a few others. I just can't believe that they gave up a 1st round pick along with a 4th for a guy who has been historically as injury prone as any QB in the last 10 years, and just came off of a average season at best. Just don't see the high% chance that Bradford shocks everyone and carries this team as far as they think they could have gone. Even if they think Bradford has worlds of potential, I think his injury history alone makes this a bad deal for what they just gave up.

Not my criteria, Bill Parcells'.
Two of those guys are out of the NFL and the other, Hill, was the reason the Vikings felt the need to "upgrade".
Did they pay too much?
Hell yeah.
But they didn't have much choice. For all any of us know they called Rick Smith and he said, Not interested."

I'd be pretty happy with a first and fourth for Savage.

I'd take that deal too but the thing is we've had sucky luck with QB injuries the past two years. And if we traded Weeden we'd have to find a third QB, who's at least familiar with our system with a week to go before the season starts. Face it, our head shed folk are too conservative to go into the season with only two QBs on the roster.

If I found out we passed up even just a 1st for either Savage or Weeden I'd be thoroughly disappointed.
If I found out we were offered more than a 4th for either of our backups I'd be shocked.
Remember Bradford was the Eagles' STARTER. Back when the Eagles got him from the Rams they had to give up their starter, Foles, plus a 2nd. The Vikes didn't have a starter to throw into the deal so they had to give up a 1st.

Yeah, but he sucks and he's always hurt.
