Rumor Time!!

Errant Hothy

Hypermediocrity
It's the week before draft and rumors are starting to fly...Yipee!

How about the Broncos going after Calvin Johnson:
http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm

Per the rumor and based on what we've heard, the Broncos have offered their first-round, second-round, and third-round pick in the 2007 draft and their first-rounder in 2008 for the No. 2 spot.

Or...How about Eric Wright being the next Pac-Man:
http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm

Wright withdrew from USC after he was arrested on suspicion of rape and cops found 136 ecstasy pillsin his apartment. Although charges were dropped in both of those incidents, that doesn't make him innocent in the eyes of NFL teams, who have to wonder whether he'll be able to keep his nose (and all other body parts) clean enough for Roger Goodell's standards.

The incident is real, wether or not it effects his draft status is the rumor.

Or...How about Alan Branch having stress fractures in both legs:
http://blogs.chron.com/fantasyfootball/2007/04/rumors_from_around_the_league_1.html

Tony Pauline from SI.com reported on Friday that Alan Branch's "shin splints" are really stress fractures. I made some calls around the league and found that more than one team has the same diagnosis on Branch while another team sees it as severe shin splints that will be fine with rest. Regardless, it is looking more and more likely that Branch will still be available after the Bills have drafted at 12.

Those are the biggest one's I've seen today, if anybody sees another post them hear...let's try to keep the rumors confined to a single thread.

Thats a lot to give up for one player, and that would all depend on Oakland of course, but ive heard there talking to Russel about working out some terms before the draft.

If the Broncos got Calvin Johnson I would hate to be Kansas City, Oakland or San Diego. Javon Walker, CJ and Rod Smith is a scary group at WR. Rod Smith serves the mentor role and Walker nd Johnson are both insane playmaking deep threats, which would mold perfectly with Cutler's arm. The Lions, in my opinion would be idiots not to pull the trigger on this deal if it were to come to them. They seem to be wanting to trade out of the #2 spot and this would give them a lot more picks to work with.

Also, who the heck is eric wright? idonno:
looks like a future bengal to me.

Rumors from around the league by Lance Z

• The more I think about it, the more I'm going to be surprised if the Texans end up staying at the 10th spot. The only question is going to be whether or not the Texans can pull off a trade that will allow them to pick up a 2nd round pick or whether they will have to settle for a 3rd rounder. The only player I see the Texans staying at 10 for in this draft is Adrian Peterson.

Kolb and Beck 1st rounders?

BECK, KOLB HEADING TO ROUND ONE?
We reported on Monday that there's a feeling in some league circles that the second tier of quarterbacks in the 2007 draft, Michigan State's Drew Stanton, Stanford's Trent Edwards, BYU's John Beck, and Houston's Kevin Kolb, could all be gone by the end of round two.
We're now told that multiple teams drafting in the first 15 picks have given round-one grades to Beck and Kolb. At least one team with a top-15 pick has Beck listed as a top-ten player. (Another source says that this is a lie, but we don't know what the hell to believe this time of year.)
Does this mean that Beck or Kolb will definitely be drafted in round one? No, because the teams who have given them first-round grades might not pick a passer in round one.
But we think it increases the chances that someone will try to trade into the bottom of round one to get Beck or Kolb before the Raiders (if they don't draft JaMarcus Russell at No. 1 overall), the Lions (if they don't draft Russell or Brady Quinn at No. 2), or the Browns (ditto) get a crack at them.
QBs tend to go higher than the draft "experts" think. For the past 4 drafts, a team traded up in the 1st round to select a QB:

2006 Jay Cutler - #11 to Denver
2005 Jason Campbell - #25 to Washington
2004 J.P. Losman - #22 to Buffalo
2003 Kyle Boller - #10 to Baltimore

Oakland, Detroit, Cleveland, Miami...at least two of these teams will not come away with Russell or Quinn. Look for those teams to make a move back into the 1st round to secure a signal caller.

i saw 1 on the other, victor-rileyesque slow board that denver was after Staley @ #6 (BS and a big reach imo)

Give credit where it is due--it was kastofsna and he also said every GM had him ranked higher than Brown and many had him ranked higher than Thomas. The madness will stop in 5 days. At least we aren't getting too many posts about trading up this year--we have to get Charles Rogers since he is clearly better than AJ, we have to move up for Gallery to be our franchise LT, we have to move up for Sean Taylor and he'll get us to the playoffs.
