Roster Moves

In about two weeks the Texans will have make their selections of who stays & who goes. from about 90 players to 55, so this begs the question who stays? so far I have a written down a few players who have impressed during pre-season that are either rookies or pratice squad or third teamers last year that will need roster spots cleared to be part of this years Texans.

Of course Travis Johnson & Phillip Buchanon are the most obvious addition's to the team this year along with additional free agent signings Swinton & Riley but how about the rest?

who would you select?

here are some of mine (of course some of these guys still may end up on the practice squad)-
  • Drew Hodgon
  • Chad Beasley
  • Matt Murphy
  • Jerome Mathis
  • Vernand Morency
  • Tony Hollings
  • Shantee Orr
  • Kenneth Pettway
  • Chris McKenzie
  • Ramone Walker
  • Jammal Lord

I actually haven't gotten to see any of our preseason, but how is Sloan Thomas looking? I thought he had a chance to do well at the pro level and was happy when the Texans took him. He's faster than Roy Williams and when Roy was hurt he was leading Texas in receptions. You saw how underused Roy was in college, so imagine how underused Sloan and BJ were. Anyhow, I thought he would he be solid 3rd reciever, and I guess the NFL and Texans are loaded with guys like that. Still I hope he makes it off the practice squad this year so I have a chance to see him try.

Id keep these guys:

Drew Hodgon
Matt Murphy
Jerome Mathis
Vernand Morency
Kenneth Pettway
Chris McKenzie
Jammal Lord

If neccesary id cut Lord next then Murphy.

Sloan has been injured (left ankle) & did not particapate in the pre-season opener. it going to be difficult for him to make the active roster in my opinion.

I'm not sure where Lords head is at he cost the team a stupid penalty and is still adjusting to playing at a new position but he is a specimen.

Matt Murphy is a stud, possibly the Texans starting TE come the season opener.

The only one I have trouble with for sure is Tony Hollings because I see the same thing every year, some sparks but then nothing. In a real game he has trouble being physical. Everyone talks about his speed for the outside but I rarely see him make it around the ends before he gets stuffed. He cant get yards after initial contact and he is not tough enough to pound it through the middle, that is my biggest problem with him. he cant use break away speed if he cant break away. At least wells can do some good on ST, to be seen FB,3rd string rb. Speaking of Wells I thought he did a good job filling in for DD last year. So IMHO that leaves Tony and his bum knee out. I hope thats not too harsh.

Last night at practice we were trying to figure out who was released to make room for Preston Parsons and Donovan Morgan.

It was Tim Cheatwood and Daleroy Stewart.
