Rookie QB Projections

Just wondering who y'all think will have the biggest coming out party as a rookie QB, if any, similar to last years Ben Roethlisberger?

Have not come to any clear cut choice as of yet, waiting for the mini-camps and pre season, but maybe to fill the time we could make some projections now and revist later?

Obviously everyone is going to be watching Alex Smith, I feel he will experience similar adjustments as Eli Manning did last year, but towards the middle to end of the season he will show signs of being worthy of his selection.

I'm very surprised GB passed on Charlie Fry I thought he would be the perfect apprentice for Brett. People in GB may become frustrated with Aaron Rodgers arm strength, its going to be tough for him to follow a legend.

Speaking of Cleveland they really came out like winners with Frye still being there in the 2nd rd. Usually like the Texans you take a QB 1st then a WR, but by taking Edwards (Who many considered the overall #1 player of the draft) then taking their QB in the 2nd could be a long term stroke of genius.

The QB Washington gave up so much to get looked like the most ready for the NFL of all the prospects which would help explain their bizare strategy. Jason Campbell has excellent size and athletic ability, is a natural pocket passer with good mobility and arm strength very similar to Ben. The major question is what he has around him to work with, certainly does not seem like the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he is my pre- pre-season pick to make positive strides his rookie season.

thats who i was thinkin of as soon as i read the thread. JASON CAMPBELL. He will make his recievers better even though he is only a rook.

I seriously doubt that Jason Campbell will see any field time outside of preseason. They have a young QB in Patrick Ramsey and Campbell will get to learn behind him. I think the pick of Campbell symobolizes that Gibbs will soon be on his way out the door. Look for Frye or possibly Andrew Walter to have the best opportunities to play and do well. Frye because Dilfer is not very durable, and Walter because the Raiders organization does not trust Tuiasasopo to handle the offense and Collins will take some monster shots with all the downfield passing, he was knocked out of several games last year.

Alex Smith will put up the best numbers simply because he might be the only one to put up any numbers.

Aaron Rodgers will not see the field for at least a year. If Favre decides to play in '06, then it'll be two years before he sees the field.

Jason Campbell will sit behind Patrick Ramsey. Neither were worth 1st round picks but Ramsey will get the nod because of his "experience".

Dilfer was brought in to tutor whatever QB the Browns drafted (Frye). So depending on how Dilfer plays will determine how much Frye plays. I think he (Dilfer) stinks it up then Frye's thrown to the wolves.

I really don't see any of the QBs drafted this year making anywhere near the impact that Big Ben did last year, and a good portion of them will probably begin their careers as backups. There are a few QBs that I think could make some major strides, and are in a good position with their new NFL teams.

Charlie Frye, Browns

Adrian McPherson, Saints

Stefan LeFors, Panthers

Frye probably has the best chance of seeing some playing time this season. However, the Browns don't have much around him just yet. They've got a good start, but will need more if they ever hope for him to prosper. Dilfer will probably be a starter for the majority of the season, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Frye starting in the second half of the season.

McPherson is in a great situation in NO. Brooks has struggled, and he'll have a real shot at the starting job if Brooks can't perform well this upcoming season. As long as Aaron stays healthy the chance of seeing McPherson lining up under center this season is slim.

LeFors is a smart QB with very good leadership skills. Delhomme is obviously the starter, and Stefan will have to really look impressive to become the starter for the Panthers. I like his chances at getting the starting job if not by the tailend of next season, then sometime in his 3rd year. The Panthers have an excellent running attack, and a growing list of talented WRs.

I think that Fry will have a situation like the one Eli Manning had, coming in to start at the end of the year. As for Smith, he will have a average to bad rookie year, but he will put his TE Eric Johnson in the pro bowl.

Nobody this year is going to have a Roethlisberger type of rookie year. Not because they're all not as good as Ben (they may or may not be, I don't know) but instead because that run by Pittsburgh wasn't all his doing. Those kinds of situations don't come along very often. It will probably be a good ten years before you see something like that happen again.

1st sign of trouble and the owner/GM (Snyder) will force Gibbs to play Campbell. It was his idea to draft 'em. Well maybe not the 1st sign of trouble but it won't take long.

I recall Gibbs going down to workout Campbell, and apparently he was very excited about him. It was soon thereafter that all the talk about Campbell being targeted by the Redskins started up. If anything I would think that Gibbs wanted Campbell.

He went down there cuz it was immenent that they were gonna draft 'em (Snyder wanted him). Maybe Snyder gives Gibbs a lil' more rope but he'll never be the cowboy.
