Ricky

So what's the latest line on Ricky? Is Miami really going to let him play there? Has he gained back any of his weight and is he going to be ready for football when the season begins? Trade rumors?

I'm really pulling for him to end up in Oakland. I think he would be happiest there and I think the fans would welcome him. Plus, as a fan I would be excited to watch any game that has Ricky, Moss, Porter, and Sapp all playing. Like I said, I don't know where Ricky's at in his conditioning - but if he's decided to play football he's not going to come in like a punk. At least, throughout his career he never has.

The Raiders just dropped a big chunk of change on Lamont Jordan. I don't think they're in the RB market. And if Miami can have Ricky cheap (under his current contract, he's pretty cheap), why would they trade him?

They'll play him this year so that he can prove what he has. If he shows he can return (close) to form, then he'll have trade value. After this season, they'll trade him.

Do you think that would make sense for a team that just finished 4-12? Or do you think they'd be better off waiting to see if his trade value will increase?

Nobody is going to give them anything while the jury is still out on whether or not he still has the motivation to play or if he can stay clean. But if he comes back and shows he can still get it done, don't you think Miami would be able to get more in return?

And if they keep him for a year, so what? It's not costing them much.

'Cause they're mad at him.

Keep in mind they have a new coach in Nick Saban, and he's said numerous time he'd love to have Ricky back. I don't think this means Ricky is going to be a mainstay in Miami for years to come, but I do think that Saban realizes, as Huge mentioned, that Ricky is a cheap back who's not going to garner much interest from teams due to his baggage. By keeping Ricky he gets a proven veteran RB to help give Brown a breather from time to time, and he has some added insurance in case Ronnie gets injured.

No I think you are exactly right and what you are saying is the most logical way to go about things. I've just noticed sports organizations are not always logical. Sometimes they do things because they think they are proving a point when they are really just screwing themselves. I was just wondering if they were angry enough with Ricky to screw themselves.
Also, business wise it might make some sense 'cause the fans don't like him and after the season they just had you have to find a way to pack the stadium. Winning will do that, but losing with a marquee player your fans don't even like will not.
