Richard Sherman (and a Cardboard Cutout) Troll the NFL in Press Conference

This is so good. At his weekly meeting with the press, Seahawks corner Richard Sherman, a cardboard cutout of Doug Baldwin, and the disembodied voice of actual Doug Baldwin teamed up for a skit that took shots at the money-hungry NFL and stood up for teammate Marshawn Lynch, who was fined $100,000 for failing to talk to the press last week.

Lynch's own monosyllabic makeup presser wasn't enough. Standing at the lectern, Sherman called out the league's bizarre media availability rules, its stance on product endorsement, and the absurdity of forcing a team to play twice in five days while it crows about player safety.

Playing two games in 5 days is absurd.

They ought to play one game every 2 weeks, have half the games played per week and have them all nationally aired...

Season would be twice as long...

:swatter:

edit: damn offseason comes too quick and is too long anywho

This would also allow them to extend the RS two weeks with the extra down time everyone gets (reducing the preseason equivalently). That makes the preseason four weeks long, the regular season 36 weeks long, the post season (Wild Card, Divisionals, Conference championships, Super Bowl) 8 weeks long, leaving them 4 weeks for the off season/draft.

Now just need to figure out how to make it work with Fantasy. Also, there's no way to give every team two weeks between every game unless you eliminated inter-conference play, and had the AFC play one week, and the NFL play another.

why not?

16 games every two weeks, 4 weeks preseason, 8 weeks post season, 8 weeks offseason

would eliminate the need for bye weeks

football for all but 8 weeks of the year

sounds good to me :fans:

YES!! That has WIN all over it! A 8 week off-season would be awesome!

Now we just need to make JB the NFL commish to make it so... :handshake:

I thought it was brilliant. Wildly entertaining. Way better than the standard cliches and coach speak that we hear at pretty much every weekly press conference nowadays. Now let's see if the NFL fines them.

I'd fine both of them & I'd be cracking down on the NFLPA. They agreed to these things, they should not be allowing their members to be acting like this.

It's funny, but if I were the NFL, I wouldn't allow it..... I'd send a message.

Crazy alternative - stop doing things to get mocked.

Pretty darn good coverage for the first 20 yards of that. Beckham is great at creating separation though so anyone is going to get beat if you give Eli 5 seconds to throw the ball.

Could of got flagged for illegal contact on a couple of the moves way past the 5yd contact area.

BUT, he's Richard Sherman..... if that had been one of our guys flags would be flying.

It's funny, I'm reminded of a thread I saw on here not too long ago.

Notice, it's not until he turns around to look for the ball that he gets out of position.

Yeah, but it looks to coincide with a mutual push. I'd say the pushes had more to do with his being out of position. I could be wrong. :)

************

If I were in the NFL I would have a major problem with having to talk to the press on principle alone.

And, $100,000!! So, if we equate dollar amounts of a given fine to the severity of the crime, the NFL thinks it's much worse of you to ignore the press than it is to purposely clock an opposing player with your helmet.

The NFL cares, about their press coverage. That equals money, not your silly head injury. :kitten:

He already bit on a fake by OBJ.. then when OBJ looks for the ball, that's when Sherman looks for the ball & he falls further behind.

CB is such a hard position to play, imo, because he is at such a disadvantage, not knowing what the receiver & QB know. So he has to rely on "tells"; the short steps & change of direction that he bites on that sets up the double move.

Sherman did a great job of stopping & accelerating with OBJ, not falling victim to the infamous double move.

Then OBJ turns his head. IMO Sherman shouldn't have turned his head until OBJ's hands went up, & if I'm not mistaken, that's the way it's taught. Wait for the hands to go up. But there's so much contact there, OBJ pushing off of Sherman... it's hard to get in a man's head at that point. Should have been some kind of foul there, illegal contact by the receiver... I don't think I've ever heard that call like that. Too early for PI, the ball is still in the QB's hand. Sherman is in a no win situation there, anything he does to counter would have been a flag for sure.

It is taught that way. The greats can lie with their hands though. Jerry Rice used to wait until the very last millisecond to raise his hands, that way the defender wouldn't even know the ball was there until it was too late.

If you're watching the receiver you try to watch the eyes. It's not easy at all but they can't lie with those. They always get bigger when the ball is in the air.

Outside of QB, CB is easily the hardest position on the field to play, IMO. The receiver has all the advantage to begin with, because he knows where he's going and you don't. And on top of that, he can push and pull on you pretty much all he wants, and if you lay a single finger on him it's a 15+ yard foul.

You hit the nail on the head, man.

As a consumer of this NFL product, I do not need and I do not demand that every single athlete pander to the media. 99% of the time athletes spout some generic non-offensive company line anyway, so I do not see the point of constantly harassing players for such nonsense.

And fining a dude $100,000 for a press conference is ludicrous and pathetic.

Yeah, yeah....
And we could stagger the games so half the teams play on alternate weeks.

To be clear it wasn't 100k for a press conf but rather 50k for multiple events that lead up to the fine. Even if I didn't agree with my employer's "rules" after the pet a 50k fine slide, if 100k was of any substance to me I'd comply if not? I accept the 100k fine which spans two seasons and multiple events
