I long for the days of confidentiality and when people actually had an opportunity to personally announce their decisions.
Social media is a good thing because it brings important accusations to our attention a lot faster. Important things we would have swept under the rug back in the old days.
If he holds a press conference for his retirement I'm sure there will be more than one good reporter who brings up, you know, that sensitive sexual assault incident he was accused of regarding his female trainer at Tennessee back in 1996?
And let me guess, he will refuse to discuss it in the "ever so gentleman way" that Peyton Manning is perceived to be and known for. Right? I'm just not feeling any respect for Peyton Manning anymore. Too many things lead me to believe he's been lying about what really happened back in 1996.
If he retires or not, I don't care anymore.
I feel a lot of respect for that courageous woman who's been working hard all of these years, who's reputation he tarnished for the past 20 years. She even lost a few prestigious jobs as the director of the athletic trainer's program at good campuses because of Peyton Manning's lies.
It wouldn't shock me if Peyton Manning pulls a Kobe Byant and announces his retirement on that player's tribune on-line site. The one that Derek Jeter owns a major stake in.
And a lot of people still celebrate both athletes. Not me though.
Maybe nobody cares until a similar incident happens to somebody they know and care about. Their friend, their daugter, etc... etc... You have to have more respect for women, especially inside the locker room. I understand he was a college kid back then and most of us do dumb things in college but own up to it and move on. This has been lingering for 20 years and affecting the lives of multiple people.
I'd probably have more respect for Peyton Manning if he just came out and admitted his mistakes and apologized for his actions 20 years ago. We can learn to forgive but never forget. Continuing to deny, lie and dodge the controversy just rubs me the wrong way.
Maybe it's just me but I have a hard time giving kudos and praise to somebody like that. This is the last time I want to write about Peyton Manning until he opens up about that incident publicly and gives all of us some concrete answers. After 20 years it's ridiculous to continue to deny, deny and deny. And then on top of that to lie, lie and lie.
