close the roof on days when expected temp is above 78 degrees, and leave it open every other day unless a turd floater is expected.

I enjoyed the cold weather, too. And we're up in the 500s where the wind is blowing good! It just felt like football weather. We are too pampered in Houston sometimes. I can understand relief from the heat, but c'mon, the cold? We used to sit in the stands during HS football games when our lips were so frozen we could barely play our instruments, and we loved it!

I agree, the Bears game was awesome, but close it at the first sign of heat....

I'm kind of mixed about this. If we go back to the old "only in perfect weather open the roof" strategy, I think I might prefer the roof to be broken. haha.
Hopefully last year will convinec management to let hte weather vary a bit more and have the roof open more often.

No kidding....there were more than a few games that they closed the roof on a lower temperature, that it should have been open.
I also have this to say.......
Why shouldn't the roof be opened on a humid day? Shouldn't we use our warm weather against a team that plays in cold weather and is not accustomed to the heat? As long as the sun is not shining directly on stands?
Probably due to the near death experience many of us on the board suffered during the 2005 season opener against the Steelers. I have rarely left a game early, and I left during the 3rd quarterd due to the fact that my hands were tingling from heat exhaustion.
I saw about 10 people being carted away by EMS due to that game. Its going to shine on the stands and especially the Bullpen reguardless.

That day was absolutely brutal..
I think that was the game they had to take TORO to the hosp also. IV bags were flowing freely that day, both on the field and off!

My nose peeled for weeks and ol' Bob never offered us a thing to say "sorry."
I would buy a beer from a guy and then dunk our rally towels in the ice.
It got so bad that I just tipped a dollar or 2 to let me do it til I ran out of cash.
Still kinda bent about that and the "oops, oh well" attitude I got.

The sun was shining directly on the stands. I heard the logic that the weather would work against the Steelers. What actually happened is the fans with the exception of the SEZ had a near death experience, and the Steelers still kicked out butts, while wearing all black to boot.
Even funnier was that the Steelers had big cooling fans by their benches (which appeared to have cooling systems within them, too), and all our players had was the metal benches that were heated up by the sun.
It was a bonehead decision by someone in the FO.
I was in the shade, and every once in a while I felt a small bit of AC from above..Then again, I picked my seats knowing I would be in the shade, roof open or closed.
I will say, this is Texas and it gets HOT, and well I think we Houstonians have been pretty much pampered with indoor sport facilities...Those in Arlington have to deal with that all year when the Rangers play.
I still say leave that roof open, as they paid alot of money for that type of stadium, and to have it open 3 times a year is a waste, should have made another dome then ! Shoot, the rodeo that is a big player in that building doesn't have it open at all as they have the blacked out tarps up there, so man, for 3 times a year, not that wise of a choise to have something if not used. Sorry if those of you in the sun think that why dont I sit there for a game when it is hot, I have with some friends, and it is warm, but it is a sporting event...and those are mainly played outside, so I dealt with it and drank about 30 bucks worth of water that game.

That Steelers game was the exception not the rule for those of us that sit in the sun. That day just happened to be both extremely hot and humid. Also factor in that many of us in the sun were tailgating since 7:00am on the pavement. Ouch!!
Normally I love sitting where I sit. 1 game out of 70 to ***** about?? I'm all good.
I am sure the pavement took most of what you had in you out before you even got inside !! That's why I prefer grass !! And no, not the stuff YOU light up...
You are right, that game was insane, I was refering in general, they need to leave that roof open, as last year proved that the fans can handle it in most cases !

Reliant Stadium is not a true open air stadium. It is very vertical and lets in little air. So comparing it to Arlington or other true outdoor facilities isn't a good analogy.
If you have a retractable roof stadium and you don't use the roof on those days where you will cause those sitting in the sun to possibly have serious heat problems, well then you are a dumbass.
You can say "deal with it" or you can be not stupid and shut the dang roof that you have as an option.
We were very fortunate with the post-Ike weather last year. You won't always have that good fortune every year.
