Look in the sidebar.

I was preparing to be the first pick, but I was also ready if I wasn't the first pick," Bush said. "You know, Mario is a great player, he's a great person and I got a chance to spend some time with him and some other guys this week. He deserves it. He has worked his butt off to get to this point."

After the diplomacy, came a bit more emotion.

Said Bush: "It's a little disappointing because it's everyone's dream to be the No. 1 draft pick."

From a poster on clutchfans.net

ESPN's Darren Rovell was at Reggie Bush's party for his being on the cover of NCAA College Football 2006 game tonight. He reported that at 8:55p Reggie disappeared into a room, where Im guessing he received the bad news. At the same moment he disappeared, ESPNNEWS broke the story of Williams deal with the Texans and it was seen by all party go-ers at that moment.

The room went from celebratory to dead calm in an instant.

Reggie emerged moments later, where he tried to put on a good face, but looked "very disappointed" and upset.

Funny thing, The MC at the event later addressed Bush as the future # 1 pick. Apparently he was unaware of what had gone down earlier that night.

Side note: Rovell said Reggie's agent thought the Texans were bluffing when he made the high offer for Reggie. Apparently they didnt believe the Texans were serious about Mario and he was being used as leverage.

And one more thing.....ESPN played an interview Rachel Nichols had with Casserly. According to Casserly, this wwas his and GARY KUBIAK'S decision to go with Super Mario at #1

Casserly, as we all know is a lame duck at this point. So it looks like this was Kubiaks call.

Did you guys see Mario's reaction? He was at some kind of event and said he wasn't that suprised and said he might shed tears. He also said that he was going to try hard and be a good citizen.

I wonder how much price had to do with this. Did Reggie come down, or was the price of Mario just too good to be true?

Price had EVERYTHING to do with this! McNair says he doesn't want the overall #1 pick ever again, but then he pinches pennies when making the pick. I think he has pretty much insured that the Texans will be picking in the top 10 again. You can't win games if you can't score and this did nothing to improve the worst offense in the league.

So he isn't happy to be a Texans? I heard he like the Saints organization and wanted to go to NO.

I read that as tears of joy, but whatever. I'm not so sure I'm happy about this either. It could be fine, but he better raise some you know what as soon as the season starts, because he's IT.

I saw the footage of his interview, and Mario seemed very excited. He was a little emotional. The shedding tears thing was definitely positive.

That's because the media hype had him going to NO with the 2nd pick. Of course he would say this!

His reaction is gonna be to smoke us everytime he plays us, FOREVER. This chip on his shoulder is gonna be the size of Texas. He will never say it, but it will be the goal of his entire career, to rub the Texans faces in the dirt every chance he gets.

I think this was about signability. Bush wanted more and I am sure his agent wasent backing down. It came down to Mario accepting Houston's offer. We needed Defense more than offense but Bush would have brought pub. win win for the organization. loss for Reggie. The overall #1 sets the tone for who gets paid what from the #2 spot on down. If Reggie still thinks he will get paid more that Mario, it may prove difficult for any team to sign him. Unless the organization is foolish he will not make more than the overall #1.

I guess Reggies agent should have listened.

That makes two of us. I'm not happy he's a Texan either.

I've seen you knock Bush more than a few times on this MB. I knew people are allowed to change their minds (I did), but u still got to think Williams can be a good pick. Who were you looking to get?

If this is a football decision I like it. If its a financial decision, I hate it...

He looked excited to me, too. :redtowel:

We have to face it, Reggie was going to milk us for all it's worth, and his ego (and agent) led him to the delusional state of mind that we needed him more than he needed us.

I think McNair has got some cajones to buck public opinion and make this decision. His intention is to WIN, and this is the way his staff thinks we can do it. It's admirable, because the short term profit could have been immense with either Young or Bush. But obviously he's not in it for the money. He wants trophies, and that's alright with me. :ok:

lol, we just wasted the past 4 months... :brickwall

Yeah but to some degree isn't that every off-season. I mean, there's no football being played so what else can you call it? It's a waste of time!

Actually the person that needs to be slapped is Bush's agent... By reggie... He piddled around and didnt come to play ball at the bargaining table. Because of that Reggie Bush will suffer...

Who cares about Reggie's reaction... David Carr's is more important. He should beotch slap Casserly for this...

When Carr starts drives at the opposing team's 30 yard line rather than his own 30 because of an increased number of forced INTs, the only slap that Williams will receive will be on his butt along with the words, "Well done!"

Well, it won't be the Texans who suffer.

And I hope he does. Not only is VY wanting to light us up now we have RB pissed at us too! Nice job McNair!

On ESPN news

Quick interview snippets:

Mario - To the Texan fans - he's gonna bring all he can to each game, he's gonna work hard and be a part of the community.

Reggie - glad to not have the pressure of a number one pick anymore, now won't be razzed by his team being called the number one pick, he'll sleep good tonight (well, last night).

Wonder if he'll sleep well if he becomes a NO saint.
