Reggie Bush refuses to play for N.O.

SEGAL PLANNING A BAYOU POWER PLAY

A league source tells us that agent Joel Segal plans to take the position that tailback Reggie Bush will not play for the New Orleans Saints.

The move, the source surmises, is aimed at allowing Segal to save some face after blowing Bush's shot to be the first overall pick in the draft.

The source also tells us that the Texans opted to tab defensive end Mario Williams with the No. 1 overall pick due to Bush and Segal's sky-high monetary demands. Segal, we're told, wanted $30 million in guaranteed money -- a 25 percent increase over the $24 million in guaranteed money that quarterback Alex Smith received as the No. 1 overall pick in 2005. Although Bush's recent P.R. problems didn't, we hear, play a role in the Texans' decision, word is that the multiple issues regarding Bush and his family caused the Texans to conclude that the fan base would be more likely to accept the decision to draft Williams.

As to the Saints, the thinking is that they are more than happy to fall out of the No. 2 spot, and the financial commitment that it requires. The Jets are an obvious choice to make a move, and they've got the No. 29 overall pick to throw into the mix.

Under the trade value chart, however, the Jets would still need 160 points to justify the transaction. The No. 2 pick is worth 2,600 points, the No. 4 selection is worth 1,800, and the No. 29 pick has a value of 640.

If a trade goes down between the Jets and Saints, New Orleans would draft tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson or linebacker A.J. Hawk at No.4.

ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports that the Packers and the Raiders have contacted the Saints about a possible trade up, as have the Cardinals. The Cardinals, interestingly, would make the move not to draft Bush -- which would drop him to at least No. 3.

The Cardinals, we figure, would make the move in order to nab Ferguson. Then the question becomes whether the Titans stick with Vince Young, or whether they select Bush.

The most intriguing landing spot for Bush is Green Bay, where he would provide the kind of Reggie White impact for which Lord Favre recently has been whining. Ironically, Favre wrote off in his press conference about nothing from April 8 the possible impactof any rookie in 2006.

Brett might feel differently if the rookie they end up with is Reggie Bush.

And the Saints could still slide to the five hole and get Ferguson or Hawk. New Orleans also would be slotted one spot lower, meaning less money required to sign the player.

As a Texans fan, I am now against both VY and Reggie Bush. I hope they both bust. Nothing personal, but I want to eventually feel like the Texans made the right choice.

You know, in theory we could still draft anyone #1 overall. Would look like a POS franchise, but we technically still havent picked anyone.

Yeah, go to NY and pay state taxes on top of everything else.

I'm positive Bush said something along the lines of "I'd just be happy to be in the NFL." ... am I right? Funny how things change when you don't get your way.

Jack,
I love the Avatar. It made me spit my water out of my mouth.

Where were all these teams at when we were getting Bush? i guess it is just the money.

They were there. The Texans probably just wanted way too much for the trade down:brickwall

Nothing against Bush, but i hopes he becomes a bust because it is probable that he will play for the Titans and want to play for them because he now has a huge chip on his shoulder.

"Reggie Bush refuses to play for N.O. "

Wha....?

Wow. Reggie's got a lot bigger ego than I thought possible. I'm actually glad we didn't pick him now, because I remember him saying "I'd just be happy to be in the NFL", too.

I guess that statement was conditional, though, on being the no. 1 pick.

Why do you want Vince to bust? He practically begged the Texans to take him. He wanted to be a Texan. Why do you wish him ill will? At least he wanted to be here unlike Bush.

Probably because he'll be on another team. Would you cheer for Cedrick Benson if he came in here with the Bears?

Well, I'm glad it's not about the money......

I mean he must've wanted to play for Houston, if he was willing to come here.. then again he was probably told by his first agent... Michael Michaels, that we would most likely trade with New York, because we needed th extra picks.

LMFAO!!! What poll told them that? Do I care if another college guy was getting perks while in college? Bush was the only one doing this? FOR SHAME! NOW I see why the Texans drew the boyscout card and chose Williams...:redtowel: Gimme a break....Good riddance Mr. Casserly...thanks for the kick in the footballs.

awesome info tho Steel Blue...lotsa good stuff. :)

When the Texans all but draft you as the guy at No. 1...and then about two weeks before the draft the Texans start playing the "Oh, well...errr...ummm..yeah, we uhh...sort of...didn't expect you to...how do we say this?....we thought you'd play for us pretty cheap. There. We said it."

What would YOU do?

I'd be pretty torn up, too. Money's one thing...but the guy really wants to go number 1 overall because he feels, as do the rankings gurus, that he's the BEST player in the draft. Is he a QB? No. How many SPECTACULAR QBs have panned out for all the glorious money THEY received for being a first pick these past 8 years or so? Manning, and that's about it.

Penny pinching Bob. I thought Bud Adams had left Houston?

We better have the top 1, 2 , or 3 defense in the LEAGUE if we've been drafting defense in the FIRST round the past three years. Get Morency those 4-inch stilleto spiked shoes so he can stay on his feet....'cuz he'll be seeing lots of time when DD's worn out by about week 6.

If Mario Williams helps to increase the pass rush and forces INTs and turnovers, then the Texans will get the ball in better field position and won't have to beat themselves up moving down the field. That would mean less wear and tear on the Texans in general.

Keep an eye on that story. Things keep looking worse and worse for Bush by the day. You may be fine with it now, but when all the dirty laundry comes out you may end up saying, "Whew! Glad we didn't draft that guy! He's making headlines, but not the kind of headlines I wanna see!"

Where do you get this? I'd like to see a source on this. The Texans never, ever said that Bush was their pick. Maybe the talking heads did, but the Texans always said they hadn't decided. As for being the best player in the draft, he would be ... for a team that needed a RB. And Young might be the best player in the draft ... for a team that needed a QB. Williams was the guy the Texans needed the most so, for them, Williams was the best player available in the draft. As far as Reggie's feelings go, if he's going to be upset with anybody, he should be upset with those very rankings gurus that you talked about. It was them who got his hopes up about being the top draft choice, certainly not the Texans.

Paul Tagliabue: And with the first pick in the 2006 NFL draft the Houston Texans select.....

How did I KNOW you'd come knocking?

Geez. You are Charlie Casserly, aren't you? There's no way you called this whole thing for so long without being the GM or something.

I pm'd Vinny and told him you're probably buying all of Austin a round of drinks right now.

I said it, and I'll stick to it: I am (gritting my teeth) happy to have either Bush or Williams.

There.

I said it.

I wanted a trade down, but Mario at #1 was my second selection. The Texans are always first, but tonight I am about Mario. I am sure you share that same sentiment as you have always been a Texan fan first as well. :texflag:

If Deuce could stay healthy in N.O then they wouldn't need Bush, and Titans don't really need Bush either because they have a solid running game, If you could by team needs, then Bush should have been projected to go 4th and not 1st

the packers would like to move up and nab him.isnt javon walker visiting NO right now. JW,#5,and a third or something for bush.you heard it here first. NO gets D'brick still and favre gets a much needed weapon..........Hmmmmmm

Now how you feel - or they go to teams we play once in a blue moon

I understand all that. I just don't want him coming back to haunt us. He has the potential to make the Texans look really stupid for not taking him, no matter where he plays (assuming they adjust the offense for him).

It's not personal. I don't actually know the guy or anything. :)

I want VY to do great....maybe now everyone on this board can stop talking down on a guy who only said repeatedly how bad he wanted to play for the city and team....sounds like a real bastard to me. He isn't coming here....and i would never cheer for him to beat us....but i hope he becomes a damn HOF'er. It doesn't change the fact he is a Houston based talent and everybody should feel the same who is from Houston. Just because a guy doesn't play on your home team doesn't mean you shouldn't want him to do as best as possible (especially when he rep'ed and showed nothing but love for our city on the national level)....

I know that everyone that reads what you just WROTE wondered what you are talking about. I wouldn't have minded Reggie Bush but something tells me your going to cry yourself to sleep wondering where he is going to go now huh?
