Reggie Bush is not a running back...

The guy is the ULTIMATE weapon. I get sick of hearing that "he can't carry the ball 25 times per game", "he's not big enough", etc.

Give me a break people. The bottom line is the guy is a PLAYMAKER. And if you ask me I would much rather have a versitile player with BLAZING speed and AGILITY that can play running back, reciever, split end, and return kicks/punts if necessary. The guy can flat do it all and will give opposing defenses fits and give our team options galore.

The same way everyone says Vince Young will revolutionize his position, Reggie Bush has a chance to dothe same thing for the RB position. He has a chance to be BETTER than Marshall Faulk in his prime. And if we all remember that Faulk was posting 2000 yard seasons every year while scoring 20+ TDs with ease. He was unstoppable.

If he carries the ball 15-18 times, catches 5-6 passes, gives the opposing defenses headaches, takes pressure off of AJ & whatever TE we get to free them up while piling up 150 total yards per game & a TD or 2 that will be just fine with me!!!

People keep forgetting that Bush can roll into the slot reciever as a dual threat. Imagine the pressure that would take off of Andre's side.

This is where his value is in my opinion.

That was the coach's stupid decision. And it cost USC the national championship IMO. I don't think Kubiak will have any problems. In fact I think he and Calhoun's mouths are watering at the thought of having this guy on their team...

I agree completely. I'm not that excited about Bush over Davis - since I think DD is a top 10 back in the league (when he plays, obviously) - but I am very excited about adding a #2 receiver with agility to make guys miss and who can add flexibility and unpredictability to the offense.

Still rather have Hawk/Mario + a 2nd, but I can get excited about Bush at #1 without a problem.

I agree with the original poster. Bush is not just a threat in the passing game, he is a flat out weapon. He has great hands, runs faster than 95% of WR's in the game, and is there a safety or LB that could possibly cover this guy? No there isn't. I suspect defenses will have to really commit to this guy, freeing up others, and making it less likely teams blitz the hell out of us like last year. This guy gets me frothing at the mouth like a rabid dog just thinking about the possibilties. After a brief flirtation on the Vince bandwagon, I am solidly in the Bush camp. I can't wait!:yahoo:

So how long are you going to leave your signature like that?

I've been against taking Bush with the #1 from the beginning, although I haven't said much about it in a long time. I'd rather trade down, but I am excited about Bush, just worried. If we take him, I'll be behind him 100% and it looks like that's what's going to happen. "Fine," I say with both an excited and worried feeling about it. I'll be more hyped about the Texans with him on the team than if I had gotten what I wanted, if that makes any since. He obviously has TREMENDOUS upside, so I'm ready for a wild ride.

I've read several sources this year who said Bush would be a top 10 pick in this years Draft just on his strength as a WR only !

I haven't forgotten. I just don't post on Bush, Young, or Carr threads so I don't get lumped into any hater/lover group.

Oops.

This is pretty much how I feel. I think that D'Brick and Mario could help our team more, but its easy to be happt with adding Bush. Personally I think that Reggie could be very good, I dont know about great, as long as he is in the right system. Now we leave it up to one of the best offensive minds in the NFL to come up with this system....I cant wait!

I agree 100%.

We don't get just a RB with Reggie Bush, we get an offensive WEAPON.

The Houston Texans don't have many offensive WEAPONS.

How did you already see him in the NFL? Wait you didnt. Its another level of play. He will only be a "play maker" when he proves he can do what he did in tha NCAA in the NFL. The End

I did not see him in the NFL you are right. The link I provided showed him being covered by a college linebacker that most likely won't play in the NFL. Yet he is deemed the next superstar I think not....

If we still had Capers and co., I'd say, "Shut up! They'll take that LB with the first pick and pay him zillions!!!"

Nice statement. You can say the same exact thing about EVERY single college player. All we have to judge any college player by is what they do in college, and how they perform in "drills & workouts". But the guy has been a highlight film ever since he's put a football in his hand. There are even HIGH SCHOOL videos of him floating around. And I'd say he made the jump from high school to college just fine. And I dont' think he'll have any problems adjusting to the NFL.

Well just to be fair, since I am warming up to Bush after campaigning for VY or trading down, Drew Kelson (#4) is a converted safety from Lamar. I think he ran a 4.4 or 4.5. Gene Chizik (Texas D. Coordinator) perfers hella speed on defense. He actually has converted a CB into a linebacker (Erick Jackson #13) and a this spring he is converting a WR (Tyrell Gatewood #1) into a linebacker.:stirpot: And I know this is way way way way way to early to be thinking about this, but if watch Texas football, watch Sergio Kindle #2 OLB/RB. When he was being recruited, a lot the scouts were saying that he is a best athlete to come out of Dallas since Jessie Armstead. The kid is 6'4" 220lbs and runs a 4.5.

So are you implying that this one play defines Reggie's whole career? I sure would like to see the entire footage to that play to determine how it really played out. That gif is not telling the whole story, but rather having a bias spin to justify whatever intended agenda it has towards Reggie Bush.

What I see is a POORLY underthrown pass being forced into double coverage with the defender on Bush having help over the top to prevent any attempts on a long ball. That defender was NOT one on one on an island with Reggie thats for sure.

And even if that defender would have been on an island with Reggie, the same outcome would have occurred because of how HORRENDOUSLY underthrown that ball was. A deep ball is supposed to be placed over the top of the intended WR's outside shoulder. That ball was not placed over the top of Reggie's outside shoulder. Reggie and the defender BOTH had to slow down to track that poorly thrown ball, but the defender was in a better position to jump up and grab it.

A poorly underthrown pass being forced into some tight double coverage is what I see in that gif. You can't be that delusional to not see this can you? Unless you are just not very knowlageble about the game of football like you may want us all to believe idonno:

STOP REACHIN, STOP TRYIN!

Edit: And on top of that, you can see that Reggie isn't even running that route in full stride.

So your point about this sophmore LB covering the fastest player in college is moot.

And I'll say this again...

STOP REACHIN, STOP TRYIN!

Give me a break. You see 1 play that went for 15 yards and call that being covered? Please......... Have a cup of coffee or something.....:superman:

I'm not getting excited about Bush until I hear for a fact that he's our pick. No use wasting that mental energy getting my hopes up. :howdy:

starting off i wanted d'brick, then went through mario-madness untill weaver signed. now ive watched vids and read up on reggie when it became obvious we're not going to trade down and have come to an inner calm. thinking about him playing for us is exciting. he'll be dangerous and even if the ball doesnt go to him it'll be because AJ or our TE will be in space due to teams having reggie well covered-or because carr got sacked but it still should be good lol

The biggest problem the Texans have is the fact that they KNOW whoever they pick......it will be WRONG!
:homer:

If Carr falls on his face this year....is Kubiak going to give him 2 more years to develop? Then the kick yourself in the *** regret of not drafting Leinart or Young gets you.

Dominack Davis has done a fine job and in my opinion Vernand Morency (I'm from the MidWest so I've seen plenty of him) is a competent back for you. Neither of them will ever fill the shadow of a Reggie Bush, though. So if you pass on Bush, you are passing on one of the most freakish talents the NFL will see in quite some time.

Personally, if they have to take a bath, then so be it - - trade down for more picks (at all costs) . The Capers building through the expansion draft and free agency didn't work - ALL of those players turned sour.

Trade down, pick up Ferguson within the top 5, get one of the top 3 pass rushers in the late 1st round, and get a guy like Abdul Hodge in the 2nd round....

You fill up your holes (that haven't been addressed in FA) and bite the bullet to reap the rewards in another draft. It's not sexy, but do they really have a choice? By the time either of these ONE players actually develop, the Texans will still be losing because they don't have a foundation of players.

The Reggie Bush Gif against Texas was ridiculous. Like you pointed out, the LB was a converted safety, and you don't throw wheel routes that are only 15 yards deep. People hating on a guy because of the hype (Young / Bush / LenDale), are just bitter from being sold on players they never saw in the past. IF you watched SC games regularly or besides catching the highlights on SportsCenter, you'd see the plays he made every game that just made your jaw drop.....plays he made all on his own.

We're not close...too many holes to fill in the draft, and face it we're not overpaying in FA.

We take Bush cause he's a flat out playmaker, which we have been lacking besides AJ.

True playmakers don't come very often, there's usually 1 franchise OT every year, when we're close then we can spend in FA on a DE.

We need to look at it as a 2 year plan at minimum due to all the changes in schemes.

Yeah well I'm resigned to the fact we're taking him. Just hope you guys are still around if he busts. That's a lot of money and another hugh mistake if the guy cannot pass block and run inside. I know a lot of you are garaunteeing it..
We'll see. 201 is still 201.

Okay folks, let's remember a couple of things about that UT game before we pronounce anything about Bush being a bust.

1. Unlike USC, UT had a top ten defense built around speed (like someone else said).

2. They made it their main objective to stop Bush. Does anyone wonder why White and Leinert had such good games? This is why NOT having Bush on the field on that fateful fourth down play was so stupid. UT was geared to stop him the whole game.

3. Bush still had nearly 200 yards from scrimmage when they were trying to stop him.

Even if we did take that play out of context, let me point out one simple fact. Let's say that teams use their fastest linebacker on Bush and that linebacker can cover him even 75% of the time. Bush's value is still two-fold. First, he will get the ball 25% of the time and can take it to the house. More importantly, THE OTHER TEAM'S FASTEST LINEBACKER IS GUARDING BUSH INSTEAD OF SACKING YOUR QB. So, while Bush doesn't address the blocking directly, he forces teams to game plan for him which means they can't be nearly as aggressive in blitzing.

I hope they are still around as well as I want us to draft Mario Williams. However, my opinion of his value does not change.

Yeah I can agree with that. Especially the OLBs and the MLB are only maybe only a step or two behind them. Speed is definitely a premium. I think Bush is a great talent if utilized correctly. I still don't think that is the best fit for this team, but I am interested in founding out. I just don't like the idea of given someone $50-60 Mil to be a #2 runnning back and slot wide receiver. If Bush is gonna be the star, I think we need to prep him to be the number #1 back and possibly trade D. Davis if this works out. Now that Gaffney is gone, we still need to find a #2 receiver.

You draft Reggie Bush he is your starting RB. DD will be the #2 RB, BUT wow the options you have with both of them. You can use both of them on the field at the same time. Split Reggie or DD out (they can both catch). Defenses will have nightmares trying to defend that. I get excited just thinking about the possibilities. :redtowel:
