RB and KR battle seem to be a done deal

GP

Go Texans!
RUNNING BACK BATTLE: Anybody disagree that Morency is the #2 RB after tonight? Minus his skating performances, he had some nice runs tonight. Hollings did not sell the play action very well, which I think telegraphed it to the defensive player that caused the fumble by Banks. In the replay, in slow motion, you could see that Hollings is already starting to straighten up and just walk as he approaches Banks during the play action. Weak. That alone should get Hollings cut, let alone dropped on the depth chart.

KICK RETURNER BATTLE: And I hate to base the following statement on tonight's performance alone, but the guy who deserves to return kicks DID give us field position that our offense couldn't get in order to kick the field goal. Mathis needs to be returning kicks. Period. He reversed field and torched the special teams coverage. P-Buch looked out of place during his returns.

What about Swinton? I mean he did score our only TD!

After Swinton bobbled that punt and then Mathis had that good PRl, I thought that Swinton had helped himself out the door. So then he returns one for a TD, and now I am back at not having any idea who will be returning kicks this year.

Buchanon looked horrible tonight returning. I think its all between Mathis and Swinton now. Swinton scored our only TD tonight but I like Mathis's speed. I wanna see Swinton and Mathis take turns Thursday returning. Buchanon should stick to working on learning how to tackel...

You got that right, PBUC looked totally lost when returning punts. It will definitely be between Mathis and Swinton unless we keep them both as returners...

Yes.. I disagree about Morency. Wells is the number two, and while Morency has showed he can play, he still is not proven against a team in a real game.

PB averaged almost 11 per return. That's pretty good just Mathis had a huge return. Pb definitely stuttersteps looking for the hole instead of running north-south immediately but he's just looking for daylight. He looks awfully quick and dangerous if you ask me. Either way I would be surprised if our return game wasn't stellar this year. Mathis does look incredible.

I think Swinton has made the roster. He's caught a TD pass and has returned a kick for a TD this preseason. I never thought he would have made it this far. Seriously, I figured he'd get cut during two-a-days. But hey, he's made some great plays.

Watching the game on TV tonight, I was AMAZED at Mathis' speed. It just looks plain freakish if you ask me. When he tried to slow down as the punter was approaching him...it looked like his legs didn't know how to gear down.

The only thing that I think might bump Swinton up and over Mathis is Swinton's hands. Mathis is a rook, is noted to have average hands, and I just think that we need reliability in the area of holding onto the football. But in terms of pure speed...Mathis is something else.

Morency is definitely the # 2 HB. His burst off the snap gets him by the defenders if he can learn to keep his shoulders square a little more often, and he made several good second efforts to get extra yardage. To me, Wells is # 3 HB and also serves as part time FB when we need someone who can block and also catch a pass out of the backfield. Hollings can start packing his bags in the next week or so. Don't be surprised if he comes up with a mystery injury and gets placed on some sort of injured list or unable to perform list, etc. so the Texans can keep him around for one more try next year (or mid-season if the injury bug hits one of our HBs. I rooted and rooted for the guy for so long, but it's just obvious that he's not getting it done.

morency is the steal of the entire draft, anyone get a chance to see this guy play at osu? burst, vision, acceleration, shiftiness - he has it all.
check it out: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/draft?round=3&dl=nfl

if davis goes down, which he is prone to do, he might not see the field again.

Morency looks good, no doubt about. However, Davis is a much better RB right now. Morency looks silly for two plays and then has a nice run or two. Davis has the patience, vision, and balance that Morency doesn't yet have. It would be a significant dropoff if Davis were to go down for more than a game or two- which he hasn't to this point in his NFL career.

RBs: Davis, Morency, Wells, Norris, Baxter... gotta cut Hollings

WRs: AJ, Gaffney, Mathis, Armstrong, Swinton, SThomas... Bradford's gotta go... there's too much young talent at the position. Swinton and Mathis are difference makers on STs, AJ is an obvious lock, Gaffney is solid and makes more money, Armstrong has the best hands on the team, and SThomas has a lot of potential which is beginning to show itself on the field.
