Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tray Walker died Friday from injuries he sustained from a dirt bike crash in Florida on Thursday night, Walker's agent, Ron Butler, told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. He was 23.

Walker was seriously injured after the dirt bike he was riding collided with a sport utility vehicle at an intersection in Miami at approximately 7:50 p.m. ET Thursday, the Miami-Dade Police Department stated in a news release. He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami in critical condition after sustaining serious head injuries and spent all night in surgery, three sources told Rapoport.

Police said the dirt bike Walker was riding had no lights and that he was wearing dark clothing at the time of the crash. Police are continuing their investigation of the incident.

RIP Young Man.

This is an example of why we trauma surgeons refer to motorcyclist who ride on public thoroughfares "donor cyclists." Not mentioned was the fact that he was wearing no helmet, making him prime material for that classification.

Prayers for his family.

FYI, Florida requires that a helmet to be worn by someone not considered to be smart enough to wear one on their own........at age 21 or under. Florida, however, does not require helmets for those supposedly smart enough to know better. :kitten:

Would wearing a helmet have saved his life? I'm assuming yes. I still don't understand why he didn't wear one. Also isn't it in most contracts that players aren't allowed to ride such dirt bikes?

Most drivers are so inconsiderate at intersections. All they care about is making good time and driving on. It makes me mad how little regard for safety they have. Not saying the driver of the sport utility vehicle was at fault here but it wouldn't surprise me.

23 years old with a promising NFL career ahead. I feel sad for his family. The kid should have lived another 60 or 70 years. By life's standards, he was just a kid.

Testament to man. Most states passed helmet laws in the 70's 80's. But people are lazy. They don't deliberately turn their heads and so there are more accidents albeit with less fatalities.

Frankly I would take mirrors off bikes and I'm pretty sure you don't need to procreate if you ride without a helmet.

Not a theoretical discussion for me. Been riding 34 years. My ride:

The one thing you can guarantee on a bike is going down. This one is wearing new clothes because of the last time a chick hit me.

34 years is a long time to ride a bike although that's a beauty indeed! At some point you've got to give it up for safety reasons? Then again, Harrison Ford is defying age. The guy is crashing private planes left and right at 73.

I have an uncle living in Austin, Texas who also rides (hardcore biker) - he's about 58 now. He got into an accident just two weeks ago but was alright, few scrapes and bruises, in and out of the hospital after a checkup. My aunt would prefer he doesn't ride anymore but he loves it. He has a truck too but usually keeps that in the garage. On the motorcycle 80 % of the time.

Would wearing a helmet have saved his life? I'm assuming yes.

Don't assume that.

DOT only requires a helmet to pass a 13mph crash test to be approved.

Whether a helmet saves a life is the same as whether a seat-belt saves a life ... it depends on the circumstances.

In my 43 years of driving, I have reached the conclussion that you can never overestimate the stupidity of drivers, myself included on occasion.

I was going to come in here to talk about wearing all your gear all the time but it looks like Cak has pretty much covered that. Poor life choices were made and now his family has to live with those choices. I wish them all the strength in the world.

I was first on scene to an ATV accident years ago. Young man and his friend were riding around on the family ranch. Both teenagers, doing teenager things in the summer. One got going a bit too fast, hit a rut and was tossed from the ATV. I'm not sure if he landed head first or if his head was "whipped" to the ground after impact. Either way, he was not wearing a helmet and the outcome was not pretty. The terrain was a real sandy, soft. But he landed with such impact....

My point is, I guess, I don't know if he would have survived had he been wearing a helmet but he would have had a chance. No chance without the helmet.

Prayers to Walkers family and friends.

I thought about this thread yesterday when I heard JJ had invited about 20 teammates up to his cabin to train and and race atv's.

I hope those guys are being safe.

That type of stuff should be forbidden in contracts. The last thing we need is for J.J. Watt, or even Brock Osweiler, to suffer a season-ending injury riding one around for fun. Although they've been at that cabin a few days already. Nothing bad has happened but they're going to be there all week.

Please just watch movies and play video games for your fun fix! Be smart and safe guys. Well okay, you can suffer a hand or wrist injury gaming hard I guess. But only the most intense gamers.

Damn, you want to wrap them in bubble wrap and put them in the romper room too?

Watt was just cleared to train not too long ago (three weeks ago I believe it was) coming off his groin rehab. Even if he tweaks it that is bad news for us.

You know, the one he had to leave the playoff game against the Chiefs with. At least Watt admitted he wasn't going to do his yearly 1,000-pound tire roll this off-season.

You may not care, but I certainly do, if our best player gets hurt doing something that isn't exactly football related this off-season. I expect the Houston Texans to win three Super Bowls in the next four years while J.J. Watt enters his prime years. We now have an elite quarterback which is huge!

So players should have no physically active recreational life outside of football?

He could get slip and get hurt in the grocery store, or stepping in a patch of mud on his farm... I care but you can't eliminate LIFE from life. If you try to make it so that bowling is the most extensive off season activity they can have you're gonna lose players fast. Their grown men not little kids.
