Quietly making our way through the offseason

Let's see:

Release Jamie Sharper
Release Jay Foreman
Sign Morlon Greenwood to 5yrs and $22.5 million
Pursue Orlando Pace
Trade for Phillip Buchanan

I am one of those guys who sees the "let's get Randy Moss" threads and thinks to himself :slap: . After this offseason though, I will probably never laugh at another one of those threads. Did anyone really think we would go after Orlando Pace? What about trade for a disgruntled player, whose self annointed nickname is "showtime"? These seem like moves that don't really fit our MO, but I guess our MO is changing. idonno:

Buchanan marks the first player that we have brought in who has questionable character. Pace was really the first major FA we have gone after. After the first three years of our franchise it seems like we are willing to bend a little in order to get good players. Hopefully this trade will work out as well for us as the Dillon trade worked for the Pats. If so that would be awesome. After this offseason though, and it's not over yet, we should probably realize our MO is a little unpredictable.

P.S. Thanks for giving us something to talk about Charley.

I don't really see PB as having a bad attitude - I see him as having played for the Raiders. Hoke seems to think he can fix that and I'm inclined to trust him after the whole DRob deal.

Ya it was blatently obvious he wanted out of Oakland and I think that change of scenery will do him good and we arent going to hear any negatives from him this season. :)

It going to change as the TEXANS get some tenure under their belt - no longer getting average high priced players to start a team, less rookies taken in the draft expected to start right away to fill a need... it's going to change.

Wow, we're actually starting to resemble a NFL team more than a "noob". :thumbup

PB will be happy to be on a .500 + team with a good coach and good fans

You know, a lot of guys don't fit in with the teams that draft them and as long as I've been a football fan the one team in the league where the "difficult" players could go was the Raiders. If this was just a case of PB being one of those he'd fit right in and we wouldn't be talking about him.

I'm not 100% certain but I don't think we need to worry about him being a cancer. I'm also not inclined to think that the Texans have changed their MO. Our secondary coach recruited him and clearly believes that Buchanon is going to fit on this team. I'd be shocked to learn that this trade happened without Jon Hoke vouching for him.

This has been an offseason full of surprises, and all this after CC's comment "We're not going to make any big moves in the offseason". We may not have made a huge splash, but we've definately made plenty of big waves. I agree with Herv that PB won't be a "cancer", and it always seems that the guys from Miami tend to keep themselves in check. I believe that playing and practicing with AJ once again, and having Hoke as his DB coach will do wonders for PB. We've got to have one of the deepest secondaries in the league now. Outside of the big 4 (DRob, Glenn, Faggins, PB) we still have Simmons and Sanders who both are versatile enough to play some S (Simmons can play both SS and FS; wheras Sanders seems better suited to be a FS). Add the Safeties we have to that mix (Coleman, Earl, Lord, Walker) and we have a very young and talented secondary. I really hope that we either trade down with our 13th pick and pick up a few additional 1st day picks, or pick up a Marcus Spears or someone of a similiar caliber. My hat goes of to CC. He has definately been working the phones very hard this offseason, and I think we'll all be rewarded with the fruits of his labor this upcoming season.

i agree again to an extent but the big 4 depending on how buchanon will fit in is more like big 3. as i belive faggins is good but hes just not the same calliber guy like the rest, but i do belive he hasnt reached anywhere near his potential and by the way im not knockin faggins at all hes my fav underdog next to simmons on the team im just puttin in a reality check, but other than that i agree with u. and faggins will be very good hes shown lots of potential...and who says short guys cant make it.
