quick thought about our MLB

we all know that the redskins are in cap trouble and they might release lavar arrington...i know he plays outside backer but does anyone else think he could be our Mike backer...he has the size and talent...any thoughts?
 
I Like Arrington alot but, I don't think that would work. How about Bart Scott from the Ravens?

I don't want replacements. I want starters. I am also tired of expirimenting with players. That is all we did at the LB and Ol position. It hasn't worked and if it did it had very minimal if any production at all. It is time to start getting guys that started at their position for a long time.
 
ok well who would you suggest for the starting MLB job...given that wong probably won't return in top form

Unfortunately, this is the reality of what FA is. Most of the guys who are long time starters(and good) don't hit the FA market or cost out of the rear. The good teams either develop mid/low round drafts over three or four years so that they are ready to start( see Pittsburgh) or do a great job of taking boring low to moderate cost FA who turn out to be quality football players (see Patriots).
 
The Colts tendered June to a 1.55mill. one yr. deal. He was a 6th rd. pick. So we could go after this guy if we ponied up a sixth rd. pick and made him a good offer. Considering the Colts are over the cap I don't think they will be willing to match many offers.
 
We would have to pay up a 1st round selection I beleive...he is the 2nd level...Only if they offered the lowest amount do you compensate the draft round they were in.
 
I've heard that LaVar would rather retire than play for the Redskins...if only Marcus Coleman or P-Buc believed that last year...
 
lavar arrington seems like a little too much of vigilante player to hold up the middle in a 4-3. One of his knocks is that he gets out of position looking for the play. We could use some of his tenacity though. We should definatly snag as many playmakers as possible, but keep them where they've made the plays that they are known for.
 
Kailee Wong with be our starting MLB next year unless something unforeseen happens in the draft.

Possibly, but he may not be ready for the start of the season after his injury...that's if he can even recover to be the same type of player that he was.

If he can't, do you feel confident in DaShon Polk to step in and be our starting MLB? I don't...we need to either sign a better MLB in FA or draft one for depth and to groom for the starting position.:twocents:

You are Correct here , KJ would cost a first rounder as the colts offered him the Mid level tender . Here is a post explaining how it works by Kaiser Toro.

I just figure that if you are going to pay for some once injured guy or inexperienced guy, that is a waste of money. For all that you might as well just keep Greenwood, or Polk to man the middle.
 
Any chance of Shantee Orr playing MLB? Or do you think he'll be on the weakside? Orr is the man.....

Interesting you ask.

Through the supplamental draft, we could easily aquire Ahmad Brooks (my personal favorite, and also a top 15 talent)

IF this trade with the Jets for #4 and #29 goes through, we could very easily take someone like Abdul Hodge.

We could also take Brooks teammate Kai Parnham in the 6th or so. (He ran a 5.11 40 though. He may not be drafted)

We could also sign a stud from a smaller school like Nick Reid from Kansas.

We could move Rocky McIntosh over to MLB if he shows he is big enough

Thats all if Wong can't come back or we feel we need depth. Polk is nothing more than a career back up, and all of the players I listed with the exception of maybe Kai, will be solid to stud starters in the league soon enough.
 
i just don't beleive that kailee will be able to return til a couple weeks into the season...an injury like that and his age is not a good mix...funny you mention brooks in the supplemental draft...he could very well be a good pick up if he stays out of trouble...also we do have terry pierce on the roster now and i've posted here before that after seeing him in college i was surprised he didn't get more of a chance to start with denver...granted he was behind al wilson but at strong side backer before they go dj williams they didn't really have anybody
 
I'd take Arrington in a heartbeat, I don't know what you are all looking at, but he undoubtedly would be out best LB on the team. Switching him to MLB isn't as big a deal as you think.
 
Well I like ball control offense and I just remember that if I took the lead on 10 Yard Fight, I could take the lead by just putting my receiver in motion.
 
switching Arrington to MLB would be a waste of his talents, I would make him either the weakside DE or the Strongside Backer then I would train Orr to play MLB. Hopefully like YTF was stating Rocky McIntosh falls into our lap.

Arrington has to be the hottest FA on the market now and you know he's gonna play like he has a fire lit under his...Really, I think Gibbs was just trying to prove a point by keept Lavar off the field, there is no excuse for why he shouldn't have been out there. However, if the Texans sign him, I wouldn't want him in the middle, he is too athletic. I'd rather have him in space where he could cover TEs, blitz off the edge, and take on lead blocks from FBs more than C and G's (less wear and tear)
 
I'd rather have a LB that cover from end to end at MLB spot, something the Arrington is well capable of doing. Ray Lewis and Urlacher both are speedy guys at the position and are the best LB's on their team, it makes just as much sense to put Arrington there as well, he'd be the most athletic guy on our LB corps. The knock on him is that he gets injured, but then so do Urlacher and Lewis.

There is rumors that denver is going to trade the 29th pick to the jets for john abraham. Then the Jets would trade the 4th pick and the 29th pick to the Texans for the first pick.
 
I'd jump all over that. the 4th pick being D'Angelo Williams, TE Davis or D'Brick. I'd even trade up again for our 2nd pick from the 29th pick by using our extra 3rd and our 2nd.
