Question about Vick Brothers

WWJD

Hall of Fame
I don't get to see or keep up as much with college sports as I'd like to but I was curious about Michael Vick's younger brother who is the QB for VT.

I know they are highly ranked and was just curious as to whether this young man is of the same caliber as his brother...high NFL draft choice type of player?

I know Michael isn't considered much of a passer but more of the runner (and he seems to be hurt way too much). How about the younger Vick?

Marcus is apparently almost as fast as Michael. They said that Michael was clocked at 4.25 for the 40 and Marcus ran a 4.28. Marcus can run, but would rather throw it. Probably because he has seen all of the injuries that Michael has had. Marcus is a better passer at this stage in his career. I think I read that the most touchdowns that Michael ever threw was 12 in one season, and Marcus already has about 10 or 11. I don't think there is any way that he could come out after this season because he would only have 1 season of experience. If he makes some big improvements next season, which is possible, I wouldn't be surprised if he is a Heisman finalist and a high draft pick. Only time will tell with him because he has had some run ins with the law, so if he can stay out of trouble he could be a great player.

Michael, Marcus and the VT coaches have said Marcus has had one advantage Michael didn't....Michael.

The older Vick has been a big help with the younger as far as how to look at film and understand what the defense is doing before the snap. So his understanding of the passing game is more advanced at this point than what Michael's was (although at this point in Michael's college career, he was a rookie in the NFL).

But he does not have the same tools as Michael (not as fast, arm not as good) and definately has some character issues.

Thanks for the info.

I'm going to be looking to see if any of his games are telecast here. He sounds like he's fun to watch. Some genes in that family huh?

i don't think you can say that one is faster or has a better arm. i do think that mike is more elusive but i think you would be splitting hairs with their 40 times. marcus is better prepared for the nfl (number three passer in the nation) but i don't think he has the upside that mike did coming our of college. don't think he will be the top pick but he could go very high in the draft if he waits till next year. i think and hope for his sake that he has matured, they say mike really helped with that when they lived together.

Yeah, by "faster" I meant Mike is a better runner. Neither are good enough passers to where they can just get by on that alone so you better be able to run the ball. So far, Marcus hasn't proven he can run like Mike. Not that that's a knock on Marcus. Very few people (especially QBs) can run like Mike.

Marcus is actually quite a good passer. He does not run nearly as much as Michael. He may not have constant 300 yd games like Leinart, but he isn't supposed to with the offense they are running.

He is a good passer. But he's not a good enough passer to where teams are going to draft him simply based on that. He also lacks height. So he's going to have to make up for those two areas if he's going to be any type of success on the next level.

I wouldn't compare him to Mike. I think he's more like Doug Flutie with a little bit lesser arm (Flutie could fling it).

He is the same height and weight as Michael. I totally agree that he has to improve next season, but he has the potential to be a good pro because he is pretty much as fast as Michael, but a better passer. Michael is a great runner because he has great moves to go along with his speed. We don't know the kind of moves that Marcus has because he isn't as quick to run like his brother is. He would rather make the pass than run. I assume we will find much more about him next year because he will again have a good team, and if he improves, will probably be a Heisman finalist (not saying he will win). It will be Eli Manning all over again. Teams won't resist the chance to get the second coming of Michael Vick. Whether he is even in the same conversation as Michael Vick in a few years will be a different story.
