QBs available in the draft

i think it's a very good year for QBs. aaron rogers will likely be gone when the texans pick, but if he isn't by some chance then they just have to get him, in my opinion. the guy is bright and he throws overhanded, two big improvements over carr.

Carr didnt have a good game by any stretch of the imagination, but we have much bigger weaknesses than QB.

I'm really glad your name is not Charlie Casserly. Please walk away from the keyboard and get a clue.

Hetero Doxy has been a poster on another board for some time and as you can see, he doesn't improve them here. Ignore him.

Actually HD has toned down quite a bit. In his own way he is saying the same thing Vinny has been saying. Neither seems to think that Carr is as great a QB as many posters on this forum think.
I don't think that Vinny has questioned Carrs intelligence or suggested we replace him though. :twocents:

I mostly just comment on Carr on gameday when I watch him play. If I see ugly, I say ugly. Carr's raw numbers are better, but all the QB's numbers in the NFL are better this year with the new rules.

That said, I think it is certain that we don't take a QB high this year. I think Carr is 'good enough' IF we have a better team around him. I think we will have another RB and will have a running game by next year.

What if DD has strong closing games from here on out...do the Texans go into next year with him as #1 or would they perhaps look at drafting another RB high?

You can't build a playoff team around Davis. He is only 'good' when he is 100% pristine and free of nicks. In a 16 game schedule you cannot build a running game around that and expect to compete in the playoffs. We will pursue a feature back and Dom will be one of the top complimentary backs in the NFL.

Carr will be fine until Graham Harrell is ready.

two-time all-state selection and three-time all-district pick ... two-year District 16-4A MVP ... 41-3 as a three-year starter ... passed for 4,825 yards and 67 touchdowns senior season ... completed 244-of-373 pass attempts ... led Ennis to undefeated regular season and 53.8 points per game ... holds state record for single-season passing touchdowns (54) ... seven 300-yard passing games in 2003 ... passed for 573 yards in win over Waxahachie, the third-best single-game total in state history ... threw for 3,411 yards and 46 touchdowns against only six interceptions as a junior ... also rushed for 1,055 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2002 ... state's all-time leading passer with 12,532 yards and 167 touchdowns ... ranks nationally in single-season touchdowns (second), career touchdowns (third) and career passing yards (sixth) ... 4.7 in the 40 ... ranked fifth in his class

and he hasn't even gotten started
Soon as it gets dark we're gonna have us a time

Amen. Carr is only in his third year. His first year he was running for his life, last year he had the injury bug, and this year we are working with a new offensive line scheme and until the last two games, we haven't had a running game. A better running game would make things easier for Carr and the passing game, especially with the weapons we now have at WR, IMO. By the way, depending on how the season ends Vinny, do you think we trade up for a RB in the first round?

I think we pursue a RB in free agency. If we don't land one I figure we may spend a first day pick (we have 4) on one but I don't think we force the pick if we see another player we project to start and he grades higher in the first or second round. I feel we need a new Buc linebacker, a new TE and a new RB going into next season so it would not surprize me to see all these positions addressed in the draft. DL depth and defensive depth overall will fill in most of the draft blanks.

Who do you think we should go after in free agency if we go that route? Any thoughts or anyone you think highly of that would be a free agent? I know James and Alexander will be free agents along with some others but I don't think we would go after that high of a caliber RB.

Here is an early list of players but this list will change drastically as teams tie up their players. January 22nd is the date that is the deadline for clubs to designate franchise and transition players. March 2nd starts the FA period. It's hard to speculate until the teams start to show their hand.

if you look around the league, sometimes its easy to get the good skill players mixed up with guys who aren't any better than the fellas we already have buy have solid line play every week
instead of taking a flier on a player who may or may not be the product of a polished blocking squad, it might be just as much fun to try put together an Oline that makes the other teams covet our skill players, and I don't mean 5 lineman, I mean a depth chart full

anonymous NFL GM: we need to find the missing piece to our pathetic running attack
anonymous unsung NFL assisstant: the d@#m Texans are stacked at running back, maybe we could get Hollings or Wells for a second rounder
anonymous NFL GM: make it happen

is this crazy?

The Texans don't need to draft a QB or RB. The Texans will make a strong push (I hope) to sign free agent LaMont Jordan of the Jets. With DD along with Hollings & Wells this would be a fine stable of capable NFL RB's.

Carr will become effective when the Texans (Palmer) realize his strengths and play to them, mainly his wheels. He can wear down the defensive front & keep the chains moving by using his head & feet as well as his arm. You add a tough yardage RB like Jordan & a top shelf TE, along with a young improving offensive line & Carr will be more than capable.

they're shock artsist looking for a reaction. let it go. we've seen enough of carr when hes had a reasonable performance around him to know better.
