So what grade would you give this years draft?
I am going with a solid B+
I am also putting Schaub as the Texans 2nd round pick.

I hope somebody chooses the last option. :tomato:

I'd have to agree with the B+ pick. We filled in as many holes as we could (even though I didn't think they were filled in the right order)

I would say a B I love the first two picks, of Okoye and Jones. Bennett and Harrison will contribute if nothing else, special teams; but I do not know when they will help at there selected positions.

The rest I am in a wait and see mode until at least mid way through training camp.

:texflag: :d: :doot:

shoot....I voted A, and I'm the only one so far! Amobi heavily influences my grade of course.

One step at a time and this years draft was a very good step. We'll pick up the stud LT or C soon and the stud safety as well.

Go Texans! :homer:

I age it a D. IMO, they picked up a great DT, but then they picked up another #3 wide receiver, a few "projects," and a guy or two that makes no sense to me (Studdard). What is going through the Texans' head is just not clear to me.

A. i was blissfully ignorant of most of the players in this year's draft so i know very little of the guys we picked, but by looking at positional drafting i think we did extremely well hitting our weak areas hardest (DT, 2 OL, 2 DB, LB, WR). a perfect draft for me would've been a trade down in the first round, but you cant expect that to happen.

Seeing as how we can't judge the players yet, I'll give the draft an A, seeing as how every need was somehow adressed.

Does this draft taste different than a regular beer?

How do the Texans spell draft? -----> D-L-I-N-E

I think if you count Schaub as a pick ... it's a B .

Okoye will start and maybe Bennett so with Schaub thats 3 starters .

Jones in the 3rd is described as high risk / high reward so he's a wait and see .

The safety from Stanford ... well his best asset is he's smart ... so if the Texans get on Team Jeopardy we're set .

Frye had a good combine ... maybe he can be developed .

Studdard and the Kansas State guy ... if they make it's gravy .

It's always funny how some teams pick guys that you've never considered . I hope our guys are right ... I don't want another Charles Hill experience .

For what it's worth, I gave it a C. Just a cr*p shoot anyway you look at it. The only one I see who stands a chance at being an immediate impact player is Amobi. The rest, including Schaub, are big fat ??????marks!!!

That's funny. Last year at this time, DeMeco Ryans was big fat ?????mark.
Charles Spencer . . . who is Charles Spencer? And Owen Daniels? Who the hell is this Owen Daniels guy? And Wali Lundy? Who is Wali Lundy? Never heard of him. I've never heard of any of these guys. They'll be busts for sure.:stirpot:

I give it a B, with Shaub being our 2nd round pick (who gets a starting QB in the 2nd round?!).

Okoye is a pick that I think will really solidify our D-line, because you can't double-team him and Mario!

IMo to be fair, Schaub is not our second round pick. He is a free agent that we gave two 2nd round picks for and should be judge as an off season pick up. We can't evaluate the draft based on him being a pick. So far, I see Okoye as beneficial to the team depending on what he does. Mario did not deliver as we thought he would regardless of reasons. Is the Okoye pick in any way to salvage the choice of Williams? Our Dline will be much better, yet our secondary may not have gotten better. The corner was rated #90 in top 100 list I downloaded in February and per the H. Chronicle will compete with Fletcher a free agent pick up. If the safety makes the team as a starter, I will be pleasantly surprised. This draft could go either way.

What you say is very true, we DIDN'T know squat about most of our draft picks last year. They turned out fine, all seven of them are still with the Texans. It's still a cr*p shoot. Rick Smith seems to know his stuff, and has done some homework, so maybe all of them will be keepers, maybe not. Personally, I hope Jacoby Jones is the return guy we have been needing for a long time. Nothing would thrill me more than to see him take it to the house the first time he gets his hands on the ball. BTW: I never said I hadn't heard of any of those guys, nor did I call any of them a bust.

I give them an A+.

My reasoning:

1) Not one of the players they selected had already been selected by another team.
2) Not one of the players they selected were dead.
3) They didn't select anyone twice.
4) All of the players they selected came from college.
5) They selected all of the players within the alloted time.

Very solid draft, they did their homework and 1 & 2 definitely show that the Texans did their homework, right up until each pick.

Thats funny and gets and A+

Too early to tell but initial reaction is a "C". We paid a lot for Schaub but we didn't pay diddly for moving down from #8 to #10 in the first round this year. The way it played out Okoye seems the right choice and a solid pick.

I would've taken Paul Williams over Jacoby Jones and I wish for once we would have given some Saturday Attention to the offensive line.

We didn't shake the world like Cleveland or clean up like San Francisco but my initial reaction is that we had a solid if not spectacular draft.

Stay tuned...

If they'd selected Ginn after Miami took him, that would have pushed them down to an F. How embarrassing.

Agreed. She Texan. Better be a "B" Texans chick. That two next April is going to sting. No way I'm going to bang on them after their success alst draft.
But

They certainly got me scratching my head at some of the moves and non moves. All the gurus have us between b, c- . At least it wasn't Dewayne Jarret or Ginn Jr. Thanks Fins !!! It could of been worse.

I give it a solid B.

I really like Amobi, he fills a major void on the interior.

Schaub is essentially our 2nd round pick. He sounds like a good leader and I trust Kubiak will mold him into a great QB.

I would have preferred Aundrae Allison or Jason Hill, but I like what I'm hearing about Jacoby. He isn't a #2 WR, though.

I like Bennett, he's got great size and decent speed. I think we'll get the most out of him seeing as Dunta was his football mentor in college.

Harrison, meh. Can't really comment on someone I've never heard of.

Frye, adds depth. Depth is good.

Studdard, see Frye "analysis".

Diles, see Harrison "analysis".

Next year I won't take the Schaub trade into consideration (unless he leads us to the playoffs) so they better make the most out of our first day picks.

Gave it an "A"

I thought it was a great draft... only because I included our 2nd Draft pick and future star QB Matt Schaub! :texflag:

C. Right down the middle. i've gotta actually see what these guys do on the field before i can determine whether or not this was a good draft.

I'm giving it a B.

I would have preferred more O-line help earlier. I think I would have preferred one of the trade back rumors. I would have preferred getting Kalil and/or Staley.

BUT...

I really like Amobi. I think he's going to be great. I'm expecting Schaub to be a serious upgrade over Carr. I have no idea what we've got with Jacoby Jones. I think Fred Bennet is going to help our secondary but I don't know how much.

I want to see what the Harrison pick brings to the table. The free safety position really scares me and I don't know that he's the guy to help fix that.

I'm looking forward to Fry and Studdard. I'm not expecting much out of these guys but... with Kubes, you never know. I'd love for these guys to be good enough to step up and contribute in a major way, I'm just not holding my breath.

Diles. I'm expecting him to take Troy Evans' place on Special teams.

I'm not expecting anything from the UDFA's, although I wouldn't be surprised for Zabransky to take Porter's spot on the practice squad.

Gave it a good solid C.

Not having a 2nd round pick hurts and no I won't call Schaub the pick.

Okoye I love, the rest I have no idea about.

I trust the front office so I expect by the end of the year I will be grading it a lot higher.

This was a good draft. The only question mark I have is in reference to choosing a SS over possible FS candidates. Kubiak likes him, though, and I trust his judgment.

from the people i've talked to, they think harrison has the speed and intelligence to play the free. he wasn't drafted to be a strong. Said he graded out really high on his intelligence, and his experience at corner makes them think he has the gamespeed to start at free. also, the jacoby jones pick suprised some folks. Before the draft, our scouts cross-graded 20 wide reciever prospects they expected to be available in teh 3rd, and jacoby wasn't one of the ones on that list. Don't be suprised if you see a lot of our staff fired/taking other jobs soon.....and by staff i mean internal staff, scouts, etc, not necessarily coaches.

You mean besides the 3-4 that were let go Monday or Tuesday?

didnt Jones come out himself and say before the draft he expected the Texans to draft him? not much of a surprtise.

I guess he said he felt it was down to the Texans or the Titans because of the interest the two teams showed him in interviews.
