Possible Texans Drafting Problem

Read this article please - http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/story/14703904/combine-preview-top-performances-player-projections - which discuss top combine performances the last couple years. There is one thing I noticed- many of the players who were examples were drafted by the Texans.

Is the overvaluing of the combine harming the Texans' drafting? I believe so.

EDIT- look at the more recent drafts, the ones the current regime had a hand in.

in regards to Texans both cases resulted in season ending injury. long odds on that happening or just plain old bad luck.

Nothing in that link suggests that. If you remember none of player mentioned as Texans were thought to be true reaches as just workout warriors.

I think Ben Tate was selected due to the work he did against SEC defenses.

I think Connor Barwin was selected due to his versatility and our need for a pass rusher... well, and Kubiak's enfatuation with TEs and former TEs.

I think Amobi Okoye was selected because of our need at DT. Additionally, he was the #1 rated DT in the draft and a sure-fire Top 10 pick.

How much we liked them because of their combine workout? who knows.

Ben Tate performed in the toughest conference in college football. Connor Barwin was one of the best pass rushers in college football despite only playing defense two years.

Those two were drafted mainly due to what they did on the football field, not in shorts.

I agree, but he only played defense one year.

Prior to opening the link, I was certain it would include a reference to Molden. Truly a workout warrior the Texans regret drafting.

Maybe the Texans have bad luck when it comes to the NFL Draft, but we've had some Pro Bowl players come out of the later rounds (e.g. Owen Daniels, Jerome Mathias, DeMeco Ryans) as well as some good first round picks (e.g. AJ, Mario Williams).

For whatever reason we tend to do better in the later rounds than in the first round...
