Am I looking at the schedule wrong? Did Goodell lengthen the season?

WOW!! Those are very wide open questions.

First, you will be more than welcome to join Blue Crew for your tailgating experience. If you do, than the Crowne Plaza is an extremely good choice (as JB eluded to - it's literally across the street from us). In terms of what do while here, eat, eat, eat.... Great restaurants here: Restaurants in Houston. Of course there is the obligatory NASA visit. If it's an adult trip, Houston is among the SOB capitals of the World. If a kid(s) are involved, the Children's Museum rocks (it turns me into a kid)!!! If you like theatre, Houston ranks #2 in number of theatre seating within a downtown area. Houston offers (and one of a few cities to) offer Theatre, Symphony, and Opera.

thanks i'd love to probably make it easier to meet up with people who have been their next year. how much does that hotel usually cost and what games are usually the best to go watch?

Here's a link to the Crowne Plaza to check out rates:http://www.cphoustonhotel.com/

Keep in mind there are other hotels in the area too. It's just that the Crowne Plaza is literally across the street (Kirby) from where our tailgate (Blue Crew) is located.

The Tinnbreds is always a fun game. Any divisional team for that matter.

When we made the trip in '09 for the Seahawks game, I believe we stayed in a Hampton (or one of those equivalent types of hotels) and was approximately a 5 minute drive to the stadium. Likewise, the hotel offered a shuttle service to the game so we didn't have to buy parking passes and worry about getting out of the lot. It was off of Old Spanish Trail between Greenbriar and Fannin St. if that helps you any. The rates were reasonable and the room itself was fine.

If you have kids, we brought our (then) 9 month old daughter with us and she was fine at the game, too. We got our seats from GlassHalfFull and she showed us a wonderful time. We were able to stop by the blew crew's tailgating after the game and trust me...you won't be disappointed by the food.

Houston is an awesome city with lots to do, we mostly spent our time eating everywhere we could. My advice would be to find the things you really want to do, stick with that and be flexible from there. We were there for about 4 days and didn't get everything done that we wanted to.

P.S. if this is you're first game and you're anything like me you'll instantly turn into a kid when you see the logo at midfield. The gameday experience is like nothing you'll get on t.v., and the Seahawks game had the stadium only about 60% full.

You might want to find out when single game tickets go on sale ASAP and then decide on a game first and then call the ticket sales office and buy your tickets for whichever game you choose.

If money is important, wait until about halfway into the season when the wheels have official come off and get tickets on the cheap from stubhub/ebay.

If you want to go to a really exciting game, then I suggest going early in the season, before our hopes have been crushed

I figured you would get a naysayer on here but believe me we will be a lot better next year. Make sure to be prepared to get to the stadium around 7am if your going to tailgate with the blue crew

Nayser or realist, either one works fine with me. I went to the Redskins game in DC this year and it was the best experience of my life.

At the time the game was over, we were 2-0 and I was talking to my wife about putting money away for the superbowl.

Going to games in the beginning of the year are always going to come with a guaranteed level of excitement because we are mathematically still in it.

The Texans have yet to make the playoffs, and have played only a handful of meaningful games at the end of the year. I'd choose Colts in week 1 this year over Jags in week 17 any day of the week.

Tickets are also always much more expensive in the beginning than towards the end of the season. Maybe we'll make a miraculous turnaround next year, but if I was planning on my first ever Texans game, Id take the sure bet

i've stayed around the reliant area for almost every game i've gone to and i didn't see any crack or hookers

I stayed at the Motel 6 across the street last Friday and Saturday night. Almost immediately after checkin, I was solicted walking to the Shell station on motel grounds in front of my 9 year old son. On Sunday upon checkout my brother-in-law was shown some crack to buy (also walking to that Shell). Unbeknownst to me, that same woman approached me a few minutes later and I handed her a dollar and told her to hang tough. She became enraged and demanded five dollars while shaking a nice crack rock at me. I just wanted to give a homeless person a buck, not buy crack. Forget about the ****ed up lady I saw on NYE with trackmarks stumblng out of her room as I passed by.

Never again will I stay around Reliant. I'll head a few miles down the road to a better place such as the Galleria or similar. Reliant was brutal at night.

Don't know where the motel 6 is......I've always stayed at the holiday inn.

It's absolutely cool to tailgate with Blue Crew. That said, knowing your age we will not offer you the spirits.... We are still awesome and fun, nonetheless. As far as the Hamptons Hotels, just google it..

This place has free parking, too, by the way. If you google maps Houston, just find Reliant go north on Kirby until you get to Old Spanish Trail and go east until you get between Greenbriar and Fannin. It's directly across the street from the Women's Hospital of Texas.

P.S. It's approximately 2 miles from the stadium.

thanks guys I look forward to going I can't wait to tailgate with blue crew and meet everyone and have a good time!!!

If you're a crack-n-hookers kinda man... stay around the Reliant area. Rough area for sure!

Nitro come on dude...that area got cleaned up long before Reliant stadium was completed. What has happened over there to you to make you say these things?

Check post #14 in this thread. He puts it out there for all to read.

Nitro you get what you paid for...Motel six is not your top of the line motel..lol. You must have the druggie look because most drug dealers are not going to walk up on someone unless they look like they are looking. Change your style and the dealers won't solicit you. I'm sorry to say it but your story sounds like a lie because most dealers aren't showing you a product until you produce the dough. Stop staying at motel 6 and get in a nicer motel.

It was New Years Eve, so most normal druggie rules do not apply, but I'm sure he appreciates your support.

Don't stay near Reliant if you want to experience Houston - my $.02. Doesn't matter if it is safe or not. Not a great part of town and no great shopping/sites/bars around.

Unless your budget is so low you NEED to stay there, stay in the Galleria (cab) or downtown (train) and enjoy what Houston has to offer.

Uhm.....no. While he may look funny (sorry Nitro, just had to), he definitely doesn't look like your average crackhead.

Fully Agree, though I might not stay at many places downtown either. ( I can just see him staying near the Greyhound terminal...eek!)

Whatever. Be happy.

Very good points! Galleria and Downtown areas offer so much more if they're wanting to see or experience anything other than the game day experience.

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza downtown. Nice hotel and a short walk to the train which drops you off at Reliant.

That said, we spent most of our non-game time on Westeimer near the Galleria. Would have saved a ton on cab fares had we stayed around there instead. Then again at 19, you wouldn't be frequenting the same places. ;)
