Packers at Niners Thread

That was an unreal run......... did you see him accelerate through the lane?

Unreal.

If you have a QB that's 6'5 230 runs a 4.5 and throws the ball 95 mph. Yeah it works pretty good, problem is that not to many of those kind of human beings exist.

You might be right, but it's kinda hard to believe when you're watching two of them right now.

Am I witnessing the beginning of the end of the pocket passer in the NFL??

ha, no. I remember people saying this when Vick was in his prime. Defenses catch up to this and in the end, you need to be able to stand in the pocket and make the right throws. Until a scrambler wins a super bowl, that's my mindset

You don't have to be 6'5"/230... Just be really quick, have keen pocket awareness, and have a strong arm... RGIII isn't all that big.

These guys are what Michael Vick and Vince Young could have been had they had any brains.

I agree the pocket passer is not going anywhere anytime soon, but I think it's fair to say the 'running QB' has taken on a different dimension of sorts this year.

IMO, the concept is evolving, where it will end up is anyone's guess.

Then Steve Young should have changed your mind a long time ago.

I'll admit, I disliked Alex Smith losing his job through no real fault of his own, especially at a time when the NFL is trying to encourage player safety (debatable). Smith followed the rules and here came Kaepernick.

However, as I type I have a hard time saying Harbaugh was wrong. The kid has dimensions to his game Smith does not. Harbaugh risked a lot making this call.

Thoughts?

20 point differential with 3 minutes to go....... uh... it's over.

Then again, this is what legends are made of.

Steve Young's SB season he had 100 yds rushing more in a 16 game season than Kaepernick this evening. Not the same thing.

He also had 7 rushing TDs that year - pretty good for a QB during the pocket passer era.... not that far off, IMO.

And Kaepernick hasn't gotten to the SB just yet.
:D

I'm in the same camp. Right now Harbaugh looks like a genius for making the switch. No way I see A. Smith in a S.F. uni next season. Heard some rumblings about him ending up in Buffalo next season. Would certainly be an upgrade to Fitzpatrick.

I think capers will be unemployed in 48 hrs. Their inability to adjust or even bother trying a spy on Kaepernick will remain a mystery.

My son and God-son are die hard 9ers and are there as we speak. We have had our discussions especially since I thought Smith did nothing to lose his job. They felt the decision was a good one thinking immediate and long term, and at this point I must agree.

I'm at a point now, regardless of who makes it to the Superbowl -- still counting on the Texans, I need to be in the French Quarter on February 3.

Funny thing is, that the 9ers haven't done anything yet.

If they lose next week, they haven't done any better than last season.... a failure of a season.

yeah, that does sound stupid.

Before (and after) I read your last sentence I had our team in mind. I agree with what you say completely.

GB defensively was just undisciplined...facing a running qb, you've got to stay in your rush lanes...too many times, they let that dude escape out of the pocket..

Sheweee!!! I'm glad the Packers didn't decide to throw in the towel...

This is some good stuff.

This has set the table for an all west coast NFCCG. Yeah, that's right. I think the Hawks take care of business in Atlanta tomorrow.
