Outside the Box

Marshall

Not pretty, but ALIVE!
The desire for a TOP QB prospect is great and there are numerous good, but not great prospects available this year.

Would you give up this years first (about 22) for next year's first of say CLE, TEN or SF?

Would you defer this season's top pick for a risk of a better one next season and 2 firsts with which to work?

I've been digging into Kevin Hogan the last few days & I'm really liking him more & more. There might be better prospects in this draft, but Hogan appears to check all the boxes for me.

Outside the box, if it looks like we can get him as late as the 3rd or 4th round, I say we hold off until the 3rd or 4th round. Targeting WR, RB, & TE... not necessarily in that order.

This. :)

Depends on a lot, but most importantly would be who is available at our selection this year? There could be a few players that O'brien/Smith believe would be Top 10/15 kind of players in any typical draft year. If that's the case I'm inclined to say no trade and take BPA.

If on the other hand they don't have any players available graded out as "first round calibre" guys... I'd entertain the idea of a trade but I would need SOME sort of 2016 return as well. Ie 2016 1st for a 2016 3rd + 2017 1st..... there HAS to be some perceived premium paid.

I see this as pretty unlikely scenario though. I also like to avoid trades with divisional opponents. Tennessee could get scary good quick if they draft Tunsil to protect Mariotas blindside and then use our pick this year for another weapon. Cleveland would be a safe bet to trade with 99/100 times. For the record, I am a fan of trading for future picks and would be something I'd explore if I were a GM.
