OT in the 1st round?

This seems to be a pretty good year for OT's with 6 guys listed as top 25 players, Russell Okung, Bruce Campbell, Anthony Davis, Bryan Bulaga, Charles Brown, and Trent Williams. Neither Eric Winston or Duane Brown are considered to be elite level OT's so the positions could be upgraded. Do you think the Texans would consider picking an OT in the 1st round if one of the better OT's fell to us? We could then move Winston or Brown (probably Winston) inside to OG, thus improving 2 O-line positions with 1 draft pick. Winston has had trouble with speed rushers in the past and seems more suited for OG to me. I'm not saying that OT is a position of need but OG is and if we can upgrade 2 positions at the same time why not do it. Opinions?

Charles Brown, USC (in my mock have Carrol taking him for Seattle) would be the perfect, athletic, former TE, to play LT in ZBS.

Its crazy to pass up a OT that is talented enough to come in and start right away. Good OT's are too valuable and hard to come by. But, we did it last year and it worked out for us. It was a risky move when you consider the steriod rumors and Cushings injury history. If one falls to us and they do decide to go OT, you cant really say its a bad move.

The better protection Schaub gets the better our season will go.

I agree. How much better would our O-line have been last season if we had taken Michael Oher in the 1st round and moved Winston to RG.

How much worse would our defense have been if we would have taken Oher in the 1st?

Here's a novel idea, in last years draft trading a 2 (Barwin) a 4 (Hill) and a 2 in this years draft to move up into the 1st rd and take Oher.

I would like Smithiak to trade a 2011 1st rd draft pick for a 2010 2nd rd pick.

Carolina did this and took Otah in the 2008 draft and E.Brown in the 2009 draft. These trades worked out well for them.

This years draft is one of the deepest in years and great talent can be found in rds 2/3. Talent that will be compareable to 1st rd 2011 talent. Another plus is the Texans wont have to pay 1st rd $ in 2011.

It will take a bold move from Smithiak. That means it wont happen.

PS I would only make this trade if a RB like Dwyer or a CB like Wilson or Robinson fell into the 2nd rd. If one of these guys fall Smithiak should pull the trigger on a trade.

Ive been saying the same thing. I would trade our next years first for a mid to early 2 round pick this year in a heart beat.

What you say is true about the tackles not being elite. Winston's going to get beat every two hundred snaps or so on the inside move. And Duane has got Freeny twice a year.

But I guarantee there aren't but a handful of tackles in the league that could make that kick out block that Duane Brown made on the jail break WR screen in Cincinnati. The tackles aren't going any where. One of the reason's I'm so hot on Iupati is after a year of experience he could well kick out side if we got into a jam with injuries.
