SAY hello to Eric Winston OT and Charles Spencer OG... we all know winston, here is spencers bio.

Charles Spencer
OG | (6'4", 352, 5.32) | PITTSBURGH

Strengths: Is a late-bloomer with loads of upside. Has a good frame and great bulk. Is well built and powerful. Shows quick feet and is a good athlete for the position. He fires out quickly in the running game. Shows explosive initial power at the POA and can be absolutely dominating when he locks on in the phone booth. He runs well and shows the consistent ability to reach the second level on time. Is a better run blocker than pass protector at this point, but has upside and continues to improve in pass pro. Shows long arms, quick feet and powerful initial punch in pass pro. Gets set quickly and has the athleticism to play on an island if technique and awareness improve. He is a hard worker and versatile player. Will put the team ahead of his own personal achievement. Is very "coachable".

Weaknesses: Durability is a minor issue, as he missed spring drills in 2004 after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder due to an injury sustained during the 2003 season. He is still a bit raw. Angles are still too inconsistent in the running game. Has limited experience at OG/OT. Needs to improve his awareness and technique in pass pro. He is inconsistent with his feet and hand placement. He doesn't always see the blitz or stunt coming in time. Needs to learn to play with more consistent leverage in order to avoid lunging as much as he does.

Overall: Spencer redshirted in 2001 and played defensive tackle in a reserve capacity in 12 games during each of his redshirt freshman (2002) and sophomore (2003) seasons, before moving over to the offensive side of the ball during the fall of 2004. Spencer moved to tackle as a senior in 2005 and earned his second consecutive All-Big East honor. He started his final 23 games on the offensive line after lettering at defensive tackle in 2002 and '03. Spencer is a former defensive tackle who thrived in his late transition to the offensive line. Spencer has great size, quick feet and impressive overall power. He still has room to improve in terms of his overall technique and awareness, but Spencer has all the physical tools necessary to eventually develop into an NFL starter either at OG or ROT. After Spencer impressed during the Senior Bowl and combine, he has emerged as a late Day 1 draft prospect in the 2006 class.

Nice, I was beginning to think Casserly was going to wheel and deal one of those picks.

Best round we've had today IMO.

Wah wah we need offensive line..our season is over we have no linemen..Carr is gonna get sacked 500 times and we are going to commit seppuku on the 50 yard line. McNair is an idiot and no one knows what our real needs are wah wah wah

2 olinemen in the third

:P pthhbbbbbbttt

Chastising aside.. if Darnell Bing slides to the 4th, that would be sweet.

Will Blackmon is also a possibility.

We really could USE some secondary help.. but then.. we may have gotten all the secondary help we need by drafting guys that will improve our passrush.

Finally, picks I can agree with. A guard and a tackle to start off the third round.

As far as I'm conerned, Wade, Weigart, Wand, and all those other "W" linemen have lost their starting job. The line should be Pitts-McKinney-Flanagan-Spencer-Winston. Give us a fresh start with fresh talent.

And might I say, what a steal getting Winston in the third! We might salvage this draft yet.

Whether they start or get groomed.. we just addressed our depth problems on the line. Good move.

And David Carr breathes a sigh of relief! I don't know much about Spencer, but Winston is a major steal!

I project him to RT in our scheme. Winston, Pitts, Flannagan, McKinney, Spencer is how it will play out.

ABOUT DAMM TIME! Now things are looking really good. Can't wait to see what happens tommorrow in the fourth round. Hope we trade out with tommorrows 1st pick and grab a couple og CB's with the extra picks we could get.

Spencer... long arms, 352 pounds, works on an island, dominating run blocker.... does this guy sound more like an RT in the Denver scheme to anyone else?

Maybe we just drafted our bookends?

*EDIT* I see im not the only one thinking that. Ignore this post.

Spenser will be on the Adkins for the next 3 months but the guy can move for a big-boy. Winston steps in as arguably our best o-lineman and he as yet to play a snap. Great picks, Carr now you have no excuses you p-c

I'm seeing alot of people having Spencer as a OT, isn't he listed as a Gaurd???? Either way i'm happy with the players we picked up, especially Mario Williams:yahoo:

I'm thinking if Wand secures the LT job, Pitts is at LG, Flannagan at C, Weigart will hold down RG until Spencer is ready to step in, and Winston will man the RT spot.

"His nasty demeanor will help him in the NFL."

From Spencers scouting report.

350 pound individual with a "nasty demeanor" is just what the doctor ordered for our O-line.....

I think it will be

LT: Winston LG: Pitts C: Flannagan RG: Mckinney/Spencer RT: Wingert/Spencer/Wade

I like these picks, I was screaming and going nuts...I think they will get good work with Kubaik and Sherman and start for us next year.

btw, Pitts is a LG we don't want to have to play him at Tackle.

has picked that was popular with everyone beforehand? Every year at this time all I can recall is saying "WTF" or "Who the hell is that".

David Carr, Andre Johnson, Dunta Robinson.

Spencer isn't a G in this blocking scheme...at all. Thats why we let Milford Brown go.

So Vinny, do you think there's any chance that Wand holds off Winston and keeps the LT job for a season? I have this funny feeling that Winston does a season at RT before he moves over, then Wand becomes the backup to both sides.

Winston is an ex TE and has light feet. I don't suspect that he will start day one, but I suspect that he starts by year end. Spencer can start at RT from day one imo since its more of a run blocking position, and it's usually the strong side (with a TE), and you don't have to cover the blind side of a QB. No way I see them breaking up Pitts - Flannagan - McKinney inside - They have been working the players here all off season. We were looking for tackle help.

Both of these guys can reach the linebacker level quickly, pulling and trapping is something they do...perfect fit for our new system.

And before you guys try to correct me and say we ran this system last year, I say BS. When did Carr properly execute a bootleg?

We are gonna see some serious fireworks and ball control with this new coaching regime and new blood on the line.

:superman:

Just to clarify I meant "moves over" to the LT side. I just expect him to start at RT and then once he gets up to speed on the NFL game I think Wand has a real hard time holding him off. The longer he (Wand) can hold off Winston the better off we are as a team but eventually I expect Seth to become the first Tackle off the bench. Quality depth once both Spencer and Winston are ready to start at their spots.
