offensive line final draft

this is what i have come up with. I believe this to be our top offensive line possiblility next year. This involes some free agents, and a first round pick, along with a 5th round pick as well.

LT: Pitts (unless he is beaten out)
LG: Hutchinson (FA from seatle)
C: Bently (FA from N.O.)
RG: Luiti (mamoth rookie from USC)
RT: Winston (rookie from the U)

In this plan, Pitts retains his job for at least this year, as Winston is not able to replace him. We sign hutchinson and bently from FA, with bently most likely coming first. Hutchinson sees the attempted progress and can not turn down another todd wade type deal. Talking about wade, he is not cut yet, because he is too expensive a cap hit. He is forced to fight for his job with Luiti, but Luiti ultimitly beats him out in the first quarter of the season. Winston is taken after we trade down, and reggie bush is not available. Hodgen is a very servicable back up. Wade provides a game tested vet off the bench. Mckinny and Weigert are both released.

Tell me what you think of this, I know the two FA's are a long shot, but I feel that if we are sucessful in getting Bently, Hutchinson will be much more interested. Reggie bush was not available to argue about in this senario.

I would rather have D'brick at LT and move Pitts either to RG or RT.
I love the Idea of having Bently and or Hutchinson. But it will be nearly impossible to get High Quality FA. If we drafted Bush it would probably help us in free agency. But then we wouldnt have as good of an oline.

I like your idea though.

Sorry to bring up Bush.

Dont knock this argumeent on the FA front. The 9ers got Jon Jansenn from Buffalo as a LT last season after having the worst record in football. If Hutchinson and Bently leave Seattle and NO, it will be the most money, not the most wins that attract them...

Houston we have a problem. does or doesn't the coaching staff know their status? if they know its over then why doesn't management delcare who to play and where to better evaulate their future status with the Texans? For starters lets see if Pitts can be effective at RT & bring Wand back in the starting LT role, see if he is worth keeping too. Move Weigert bact to RG along side Pitts then alternate Weary & Brown to evaulate which is the better guard.

Makes sense to me :hmmm: could go along way to figure which tackle to pick if Pitts can handle the RT that would favor drafting a pure LT (D'Brick) or a swing tackle that can play both RT (Winston). At the very least there needs to be an action plan in place to fishbone out the sources of failure so the offensive line is no longer a inept :twocents:

We seem to be on the same wavelength beerlover.

Call me crazy, but Offensive lineman don't turn into pansies over night and forget how to block. Weigert and Wade know how to play the game and they will be here next year. We need to go OT in the first round and I would not mind picking up a C/G in FA (Bentley would be great). I did not play football, but it would seem to me, and please correct if I am wrong, that the right coach in this position can have the greatest impact. I liken it to the low post in basketball where technique is a huge piece of the puzzle.

My thought on this is pretty clear and stated over a couple of posts. I doubt we can pick up Bentley and Hutch, but Bentley is definately a possiblility. The guy loves the south and who isnt dying to get away from the Saints. Hutch will be a playoff tested Pro-Bowler that if not resigned will get a monster deal, because like Weigert in his prime can play both G and RT. Winston as of right now is my pick for first round linemen. I like Davin Joseph also as a possible and soon replacement for Weigert. So I guess my line looks like. Pitts, Weigert, Bentley, Joseph, Winston. This puts the nastiest guys on the line. Ask Russ Grimm and Alex Gibbs how well nasty linemen due in this league and you will understand why you want these guys protecting our QB.

I agree with YTF that Winston should be our top prospect, but we'll have to see how they grade out at the combine. I also like bringing in Hutchinson and Bentley, Bentley would probably be a little more important of a pick up and would probably be easier to get, and if we can't get Hutchinson I think Wiegert will be fine for the last year of his contract and we can look to draft someone like Joseph or Thomas rather than waiting and getting Lutui. I also don't think drafting Reggie Bush will help bring in any free agents that wouldn't otherwise come.

I don't want Wand at LT ever, maybe play him at RT and see if he can handle that before even thinking about putting him at RT. If Pitts can handle LT as well as he has, I'm sure he could handle switching to RT.

I like this OL a lot and would probably be the best line we can get, unless we could maybe bring in Hutchinson to battle it out with Wiegert. I think Wiegert still has one more good year in him but we need to lock down a future replacement for him too, maybe we could get the Lutui guy in the later rounds and give him a year as a backup.

I like Weigert, he is nasty and when healthy he is the most solid lineman we have. Yes I do mean even more solid than Pitts when Weigert is at G. Pitts is our best lineman, but he does overshoot and get off balance some time. Mork your statements are right on. If we could get Hutch and Bentley we just upgraded our line alot. Davin Joseph becomes a good backup that competes all year to get Weigert's job and will become his eventual replacement. Man I really want a line and new system that will showcase the talent on this team.
