Off season plan.

The offensive line again has been a weakness, though not as bad as when ESPN ran commercials of running the offense without a line, but it is still a high priority.

There is a chance Seattle wont tag Walter Jones again, he should be signed. Offensive line fixed. end of story.

Tight end, billy miller isn't getting it done, and Bruener provides no pass catching ability, he might have been good in college, but its been a while.
We need a Ben Troupe or someone who is going to make some plays on a linebacker.

Defensively we just need to keep adding youth to all positions, maybe find another good young linebacker.

Defensive line should be a high priority. a good nose tackle.

postions to upgrade via free agency and the draft :

C mckinney out!

gimme a young center with the versatility to play guard. if hes a draftee hes probably going to have to be taken in the first or second round to have any chance to beat out mckinney. i was pleasently surprised with milford brown yesterday who could also be an option in the mix (at guard or center).

ILB foreman out

foreman's been productive...5+ yards beyond the line of scrimmage. if you've watched the game you've also seen how bad he can be at times in pass coverage. in addition to that hes not a good blitzer and limits the defense in that way. i like the guy but its time to move on. we need someone young who can do all of those things and light a fire under this defense when needed. i want someone mean for once...(i didnt say i wanted another time bomb like peek).

DL

we dont have what i consider quality depth...and we definitley dont have youth. payne seems to have recovered but im to paranoid to believe it completly. walker's performance dropped off this year as his check went up. i can see him being cut in a year or 2 for cap purposes. wrong or right i think its hard to dispute we need some youth here. (our run defense was horrible for the mostpart this year and the dl is a good place to begin correcting that.)

CB

i like faggins. he plays a gritty style i enjoy watching but hes only a 5th round talent. i have no problem with him on the field in our dime package ,but i dont want to see him in there on the nickle. i want someone taller then 5'8 (ideally 6 foot or so). consider this player one to be groomed for glenn's position. strike while the iron is hot...we still have hoke.

RB

think stacey mack, only younger and as good as advertised. he dosent have to be a superstar, just a steady grinder good for 4 before ya switch it up and put dd back out there.

TE

bit of a gamble here but a definite need. wait on joppru or take a prospect should one we like become available?

WR

i think bradford's gone. with gaffney and armstrong wr may not be as pressing a need but i see us taking one late in the draft (5-7).

----------------------------------------------------

i cant see casserly latching a ball and chain to our cap to sign walter jones...its going to take a lot to sign him.

lt............lg............c............rg..........rt

wand...pitts....brown.....weigert......wade

brown and weigert on prohibation...i would like to hope we'll bring in some new talent...but as things stand now i liked the way brown helped us dominate a great pair of defensive tackles. as for weigert i think hes a solid run blocker and i saw him as a better pass blocker last year...i know he can play better.

and yes, im buying into the hoopla...

lolb............ilb............ilb...............rolb

peek.......wong.......sharper.....babin

im also for drafting an inside linebacker and if that should happen wong retains the outside spot and peek remains a situational pass rusher. (also lookout for charlie anderson...he shows good speed and some playmaking ability....i wont be surprised if he secures a spot in the next 2 years).

nothing groundbreaking i guess...just kinda wanted to keep the post alive in order to get some opinions...

Linebacker....what a quandry. I mean...there are so many "possible" solutions. We can credit that to our scouts who find talent like Charlie Anderson, Deshon Polk & Shantee Orr via a late draft pick and free agency (respectively).

But at the same time, this discussion is moot if we had a player like Kendrell Bell on the inside with Sharper.

Anyone know when the contracts end for Foreman & Wong?

What about Bradford?

I honestly think Armstrong is a great slot receiver. But Gaffney has REALLY REALLY shown his hands have improved. Do you all think either is fast enough to work opposite Johnson? Then again...is Sloan Thomas still on our practice squad?! Maybe he'll work his way up! Weren't they saying he was the fastest guy on the squad this summer?

Thoughts...anyone, anyone...Bueller?

Edgerton Hartwell will be an UFA this off-season.

Foreman has completed either 1 or 2 years of a 5 year deal. Wong is signed through next year.

Bradford is an UFA this off-season.

Yes he is on the practice squad, but he is closer in speed to Gaffney/Armstrong than he is to Bradford/AJ.

I thought Sloan Thomas was consistently faster than Roy Williams at UT? Isn't that what Casserly/Capers said?

I also wonder if Starling is ahead of Thomas at WR, or is he up because he can play gunner?

Maybe he tests poorly but he was timed at 4.55--way slower than Williams, AJ or Bradford. I believe Starling has more speed (4.38 at his pro-day), but he certainly does appear to have the right attitude for special teams.

If we could get him that would be nice. There doesn't seem to be a stud ILB in this draft.

Anyone know our cap situation for next year? I heard the cap is going to be between 85 and 86 million.
