Packers Letroy Guion arrested in Florida on marijuana, gun charges; $190K seized

Green Bay Packers nose tackle Letroy Guion was arrested Tuesday night in Starke, Fla., on felony charges of possessing marijuana and a firearm. In all, police seized 357 grams of marijuana, a 9mm semiautomatic handgun and more than $190,000 from a bag in his vehicle.

He was released from Bradford County Jail on Wednesday afternoon on a $100,000 bond.

"We are aware of a serious matter involving Letroy Guion," a Packers spokesman said. "We have not yet spoken to Letroy, and we will have no further comment."

At approximately 11:03 p.m. EST Tuesday [Feb. 4, 2015], according to a Starke Police Department arrest report, the 27-year-old Guion was stopped for failure to maintain a single lane, and the officer on site smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from Guion's 2015 Dodge Ram.

Guion asked the officer if he knew who he was, and due to the smell and Guion's behavior, the officer had Guion step out of the vehicle and called for backup.

Asked if he had anything illegal in the vehicle, Guion said he did have a registered firearm. While it's not illegal to carry a registered gun in Florida, it is illegal to carry a gun with illegal drugs.

As the officer continued to search the vehicle after securing the firearm, the report continued, Guion became "extremely uncooperative and hostile" and "kept coming towards the vehicle several times, saying, 'Hey man, my money is in there. Don't let him take my money.'"

The officer reported that Guion "rushed" to the driver's side of the vehicle in an attempt to take the black bag on the front passenger side, at which point Guion was handcuffed.

Inside the bag, police found bags of 190 and 167 grams of marijuana for the total of 357 grams — 0.78705 of a pound — and Guion was placed under arrest.

In the process, the officer also found $190,028.81 in the middle pocket of the bag...

Accuser a no-show; abuse case against Greg Hardy falls apart
Greg Hardy’s domestic-abuse case was abruptly dismissed Monday because his accuser – who is believed to have reached an undisclosed civil settlement with the Carolina Panthers’ Pro-Bowl defensive end – could not be found to testify.

Nicole Holder, Hardy’s ex-girlfriend, told prosecutors last fall she did not want to go through another trial after Hardy’s initial conviction in July 2014, District Attorney Andrew Murray said in a statement Monday as jury selection was about to get underway at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse.
...

Since November, efforts to contact Holder and serve her with a subpoena have been fruitless, Murray said, despite “extraordinary measures” that included police staking out the addresses where she was believed to be living and requests to relatives to have her come forward. Murray said that he understood Holder had reached an independent settlement with Hardy.
...

In July, with Holder at his side, Zamora said Hardy’s conviction “sent a strong message to the people of Mecklenburg County that it doesn’t matter if you’re an average Joe or if you’re a professional athlete that plays for the Carolina Panthers: If you assault a woman and you communicate to that woman that you will kill them, you will be arrested. You will be prosecuted, and you will be convicted.”

Holder filed a Complaint and Motion for Domestic Violence Protective Order, a copy of which was obtained by the Charlotte Observer.

In that document are Holder's alleged version of the facts from late Monday night/early Tuesday morning:

On May 13, 2014 Greg Hardy attacked me in his apartment. Hardy picked me up and threw me in the tile tub area of his bathroom. I have bruises from head to toe, including head, neck, back, shoulders, arms, legs elbow and feet. Hardy pulled me from the tub by my hair, screaming at me that he was going to kill me, break my arms and other threats that I completely believe. He drug me across the bathroom and out into the bedroom. Hardy choked me with both hands around my throat while I was lying on the floor. Hardy picked me up over his head and threw me onto a couch covered in assault rifles and/or shotguns. I landed on those weapons. Hardy bragged that all the assault rifles were loaded. Landing on those weapons bruised my neck and my back. Hardy screamed for his 'administrative assistant' (Sammy Curtis) to come into the room and hold me down. Curtis came into the room, grabbed me from behind and held me down. Hardy and Curtis then took me into the living room area. I wasn't nearly strong or fast enough to escape. I begged them to let me go & I wouldn't tell anyone what he did. They took me out into the hall, pushed me down & went back inside the apartment. I crawled to the elevator and ran into [Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department].
Hardy's attorney (and therefore Hardy) allege a different way in which things occurred.
Chris Fialko, Hardy atty, says alleged victim was attacking Hardy and his friend and wouldn't leave Hardy's apartment.

Additionally in the motion, Holder alleges Hardy "has approximately 25-30 firearms. AK-47's, automatic looking weapons, shotguns, rifles and pistols. Some are permitted and some are not. Hardy has a very large gun safe at his residence in South Charlotte."

She also alleges "as part of the assault, [Hardy] threatened to shoot me if I went to the media or reported his assaults to anyone."

Man those Packers sure mess up their nose tackles..... :kitten:

I don't understand. If you want to sell weed why don't you invest in the states that sell it legally?

I don't think he was actually trying to sell weed. I think he was trying to make himself look like some kind of high rolling drug dealer. The amount of weed they confiscated is only worth maybe a couple grand on the street.

Pizza delivery man: Colts LB D'Qwell Jackson threatened to kill me
The pizza delivery man who was allegedly assaulted by D'Qwell Jackson on Tuesday says that Jackson threatened to kill him.

The Colts linebacker was arrested Tuesday night and charged with simple assault after an incident in Washington, DC.

According to a police report obtained by the Washington Post, Jackson allegedly punched pizza delivery driver Jose Bonilla-Fuentes in the face because Bonilla-Fuentes parked in Jackson's spot. Jackson lives in an area that has assigned parking spaces and Bonilla-Fuentes had briefly parked in the spot so he could deliver a pizza.

The alleged victim joined the Kent Sterling Show on CBS Sports radio in Indianapolis on Wednesday and tried to explain what happened.

"What happened is that a crazy guy tried to choke me," Bonilla-Fuentes said.

The pizza delivery driver also added that Jackson said he was "going to kill me."

According to Bonilla-Fuentes, Jackson became remorseful after the cops got involved.

"He come to me and say 'Please, please I'll give you whatever money you need, but don't do nothing, don't let the police take me,'" Bonilla-Fuentes said.

So I found this interesting, maybe the lawyers can weigh in...

It sounds to me in this state you can have a trial in front of a judge -- Hardy did and was found guilty -- but then you can appeal the judge's decision to a jury... like a second bite at the apple. Can't be right, can it?

So Hardy waited to buy off his accuser until after a judge ruled against him, and then he ponied up the $$$ to make her disappear and the decision was vacated.

We do it to a degree with Justice of the Peace courts - if you don't like the results of the trial there you appeal de novo (as if new) to County Court.

From the early reporting on this it sounds like the initial bench trial is almost a glorified replacement for a grand jury - more of a gatekeeper function.

Interesting. Totally unaware of that. Thanks.

Detroit Lions' Nick Fairley cleared on DUI charge, convicted of reckless driving; ready for free agency visits
After nearly three years of waiting, the verdict is finally in.

Nick Fairley was found not guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol after a three-day trial that ended Friday afternoon in Mobile County Court.

The charge stemmed from a 2010 incident in which the Detroit Lions defensive tackle was accused of driving 100 mph with an open container on an Alabama freeway. He also faced a charge of reckless driving.

Fairley was convicted of that reckless driving charge and will pay a $500 fine, according to WKRG-TV in Mobile.

Philadelphia Eagles safety Nate Allen has been cleared of any wrongdoing...
after being accused of a lewd act, which led to him being detained by police in Fort Myers, Florida last week.

The Florida State Attorney's Office explains that police were investigating a report of an indecent exposure when officers detained Allen after stopping his truck Monday afternoon.

According to the affidavit, a man driving a black pickup truck exposed himself in front of a woman.

The complainant then called 911.

A review of surveillance video shows a suspect in a black pickup truck in the same location as the victim when the complaint was filed. However, that man was not Allen nor was it his truck, authorities now say.

According to the State Attorney, Allen was mistakenly identified as the suspect when he was detained.

State Attorney Steve Russell said in a statement: "After reviewing the case and situation, Mr. Nate Allen should be commended for his patience, cooperation, and understanding. Further the victim should be commended for her cooperation and willingness to report the offense."

Baltimore Ravens player driving 100 in 55 mph zone arrested for DWI
Victor Hampton, 22, is facing DWI, speeding, reckless driving and open container charges.

Investigators said a trooper clocked a convertible Camaro traveling 100 mph in a 55 mph zone on Interstate 77 near Westinghouse Boulevard at approximately 12:26 a.m. The trooper initiated his emergency equipment, and the Camaro was stopped about two miles down the interstate, near Arrowood Road.

Investigators said as the trooper approached the Camaro, he observed two passengers attempting to hide firearms under the front passenger seat.

Hampton is listed as a cornerback for the Baltimore Ravens. The former University of South Carolina Gamecock signed with the NFL team earlier this year.
...
Investigators said they cited the right front seat passenger for possession of marijuana and carrying a concealed weapon. The right rear passenger was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks has been accused of sexual assault by the same woman who brought similar allegations against former San Francisco defensive end Ray McDonald, according to a report.

And she was sued but now is back in the McDonald home?

Convoluted at very least.
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks has been accused of sexual assault in a lawsuit involving former Niners teammate Ray McDonald.

The woman, whom McDonald sued for defamation in March after she accused him of sexual assault in December, on Tuesday filed a cross-complaint that named both Brooks and McDonald in Santa Clara County Superior Court, according to court records.

The website TMZ.com first reported the allegations against Brooks, who remains under contract with the 49ers. The team released McDonald in December within hours of police in San Jose's confirmation that McDonald was the subject of an investigation. McDonald was never arrested, but prosecutors in Santa Clara County have not yet announced if they will pursue criminal charges. McDonald has since signed with the Chicago Bears.

According to court documents obtained Wednesday by CSN Bay Area, the woman reiterates in the May 5 filing the details from the December police report, claiming that she partied with McDonald and others at his home, that she fell and hit her head by the pool, and that she did not consent to having sex with McDonald.

In the new complaint, she said Brooks "groped her in a sexual manner."

The woman has hired famous civil rights attorney Gloria Allred.

Brooks was not mentioned in the initial police report, though investigators did write in December that McDonald was partying with teammates after returning from a game in Seattle when he met the woman at a San Jose bar.

Brooks, 31, signed a six-year, $40 million contract with the 49ers in 2012, and is scheduled to earn a base salary of $3.5 million in 2015. He started 13 games for the Niners last year and had six sacks.

Owners need to create downside for taking chances on problem players

It’s an idea that has been percolating for years. With the latest arrest of Bears defensive lineman Ray McDonald, its time finally has come.

NFL teams will continue to give talented players second (and third . . . and fourth) chances because NFL teams want to win. Seven years ago, the NFL implemented a deterrent to the practice of harboring problem players by instituting a convoluted system of fines on teams with multiple players suspended in a given year.

It hasn’t worked the way it should, and for good reason. Fines are a cost of doing business, especially when the ultimate goal of business is to compete for championships.

The only way to get the attention of teams inclined to roll the dice on the Ray McDonalds of the world will be to attach the loss of future draft picks when a player with a propensity for getting into trouble gets into trouble.

Last October, owners discussed the possibility of removing draft picks from teams with players who have multiple incidents under the Personal Conduct Policy.

What level of accountability should be expected of clubs?” Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote in a memo to owners before the October session, Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reported at the time. “Is the current Salary Remittance Program sufficient, or should additional measures be considered?”

They should be considered, and they should be implemented. It won’t be easy; the formula for taking away draft picks when players get into trouble needs to be clear, simple, and fair.

Ultimately, it’s the only thing that will cause a team that sees a first-round talent slide to round four to stop and think about the potential consequences for rolling the dice. If/when the worst-case scenario unfolds, the team won’t simply lose the lower pick invested in a player whose ability should have gotten him off the board much sooner. They’ll lose one or more picks in the future.

Given the weight teams attach to those draft picks, it’s the best (and probably only) way to get them either to do a better job of keeping out players who may find trouble — or to ensure that players with a checkered past won’t find trouble in their next place of employment.

Isn't the penalty not having the player when you need them? Otherwise, it's just a punitive "league image" issue that has little to do with the actual game itself.

I'm not saying the league has no interest in protecting itself against "bad press", quite the contrary. The blowback is when league-affiliated sites like NFL.com start mentioning "character issues" based on only accusations when presenting a potential player to be drafted and that player becomes a UDFA making far less $$. That player now has an interesting legal case against the league, where he might not have had one prior to these "new rules".

It is a case of either slander or libel, depending on the format of the DELIBERATE misinformation. Unfortunately, it is difficult to prove since reporting rumors is all the legwork the press actually does these days. It makes it easy to become a part of the deliberate misinformation campaign they are supposed to be staying away from. But a neutral press was a very brief experiment that didn't last long. It's back to competing for like minded viewers which is the way it started out.

Don't really like the sound of this. If a guy is eligible to play, he's eligible to play. This just encourages teams to flat out not give guys another chance. It's easy to take the side of wanting to clean up poor conduct amongst players, and that's fine. But if the league just wants to say that a guy hasn't earned the right to play then they should just say that, instead of saying that yes a guy can play while pointing a gun to the head of any team considering them.

Falcons linebacker accused of killing very small dog
dead-dog.jpg

Falcons linebacker Prince Shembo didn’t just allegedy kick a dog and kill it, he allegedly found one of the smallest dogs possible to kick and kill.

According to Alexis Stevens of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, police documents say Shembo killed his then-girlfriend’s pet Yorkie named Dior.

Yorkshire terriers, which top out around 7 pounds, are no match for 254-pound linebackers, it seems.

The Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Michele Pihera said Shembo was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, following an April 15 incident.

According to the report, his then-girlfriend Denicia Williams told police she had taken Dior to Shembo’s apartment, and left the dog there. When she returned, the dog was unresponsive, and died a short time later at an animal hospital.

She said the next day, Shembo told her he killed the dog, at which point she broke up with him.

A necropsy was performed at the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter, where the cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma.

According to the report, Dior had “a fractured rib, fractured liver, abdominal hemorrhage, thoracic hemorrhage, extensive bruising and hemorrhage in the muscles in her front leg and shoulders, head trauma, hemorrhage and edema in lungs, hemorrhage between the esophagus and trachea, and hemorrhage in the left eye with internal injuries.”

The Falcons drafted Shembo in the fourth round last year from Notre Dame.

BTW, aggravated cruelty to animals is a FELONY.

Agent says Redskins rookie Jamison Crowder didn't hit woman

The agent for Washington Redskins rookie Jamison Crowder denied Thursday that his client hit a woman, saying photos that were posted to Crowder's Instagram and Twitter accounts suggesting he had done so were the result of the accounts being hacked.

Someone, allegedly an ex-girlfriend, posted photos on Crowder's accounts showing bruises on a woman's arm as well as a cut lip. The comment under the posting read, in part, "Ive had things thrown at me, poured on me, ive been choked, had a concussion... The list goes on." The individual wrote that because Crowder continued to show that his heart wasn't with her anymore, she had no reason to protect him.

But Crowder's agent, Tory Dandy, said, "His account was hacked. Jamison hasn't hit anybody."

His Twitter account has been deleted and the photos no longer appear on his Instagram account. There is no record of any domestic violence involving Crowder in Loudoun County, where the Redskins train year-round.

If there is a "buy" off it happens before the case reaches open court not after...due to the fact
that after is when a judge would have ruled against him and awarded her compensation for
pain/suffering plus medical expenses..but this case never reached court, and his charges were
dismissed...she disappeared before the police/prosecutor ever got a sworn afidavid of testimony
from her

which tells me, either Hardy's lawyers advised him to settle out of court to keep
this away from further media attention or? she lied and was trying to use his status
to try and get money she wasn't entitled to

Without knowing the player or the accuser, it's hard to know which is more likely. Both are far too common.

Police investigating after car of Patriots Brandon Spikes found abandoned

Car registered to Spikes found abandoned on I-495 near reported crash

Watch NewsCenter 5's report

Massachusetts State Police responded to reports of a vehicle in the median of I-495 in Foxborough at around 3:30 a.m. after being notified by a representative of the OnStar navigation system that the driver of the car reported hitting a deer.

Troopers found the 2011 Mercedes Maybach, registered to Spikes, abandoned in the median with damage to the front end. The driver of the car was no longer at the scene of the crash.

Police said they did not find a deer near the Mercedes.

Police received a call shortly after 3:30 a.m. that a 2009 Nissan Murano on I-495 northbound in Foxborough had been hit by a vehicle they did not see. This crash was in the area where Spikes' car was found, according to police.

The three occupants in that vehicle, a 51-year-old man, 32-year-old woman and 12 year-old boy, all of Billerica, were taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

A Massachusetts State Police spokesman said no charges have been filed in either crash as of Sunday afternoon, but police continue to investigate whether there is any connection between the incidents.

An investigation into who was driving the Mercedes registered to Spikes at the time of the crash is also ongoing.

Patriots spokesman Stacey James issued a brief statement saying the team was looking into the incident involving Spikes' car.

"We are aware of the report and are looking into the matter, but I don't have any additional comment at this time," James said in the statement.

Warren Sapp accused of biting finger, stepping on head of girlfriend
June 25, 2015, 5:12 PM EDT
sapp.jpg

If there was ever any chance that Hall of Fame defensive lineman Warren Sapp would be returning to a TV screen or any media company at any point in the near or distant future, there probably isn’t now.

Sapp, fired by NFL Network after being accused of soliciting prostitution and then assaulting said prostitutes, is now accused of assaulting his long-time girlfriend (who apparently remained his girlfriend despite Sapp’s indiscretion with a pair of prostitutes). According to TMZ, Sapp has been charged with three counts of domestic violence following an April 28 incident at at Las Vegas resort.

Per TMZ, the police report alleges that Sapp: (1) throwing a margarita in her face”; (2) allegedly grabbing her “by the arm or purse and violently pulled on her . . . nearly taking her down to the ground”; (3) “biting her middle finger”; (4) throwing a belt at her; and (5) stepping on her face while wearing a pair of sandals.

She allegedly emerged from the incident with multiple injuries, including a checkerboard imprint on her temple, apparently from the sole of Sapp’s sandal.

He’s due in court on July 23, and he faces up to 18 months in prison. He likely now has been exiled from any type of high-profile media employment for a lot longer than that — possibly for the rest of his life.

Footprints on your girlfriend's forehead will do you in every time!:vincepalm:

Ex-Patriots Spikes guilty in crash that injured family of 3

Former New England Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes was back in court Wednesday in connection to a crash where he was accused of rear-ending another vehicle on a highway then leaving the scene.

Spikes was found guilty of three counts of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in personal injury and was sentenced to one year probation plus a $1,000 fine and surcharge. He also lost his license for a year.

Several other charges were continued without a finding, including charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.

Last month, Massachusetts State Police issued a citation charging Spikes with several motor vehicle offenses after determining that Spikes was speeding and driving negligently when he crashed his 2011 Maybach sedan into the back of a sport utility vehicle on Interstate 495 northbound in Foxborough on June 7.

The crash caused minor injuries to a Billerica man and woman and their 12-year-old son, the occupants of the 2009 Nissan Murano, who were all transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. All were treated and released.

Spikes was released by the Patriots the day after the crash.

The driver of Spikes' Maybach had called an emergency assistance service claiming to have struck a deer. Responding troopers found no evidence of a deer strike, but did find the family in the Nissan Murano.

Avoided that DWI, though.

Aaron Kromer arrested for battery after allegedly punching boy

Buffalo Bills offensive line coach Aaron Kromer was arrested early Sunday morning in Florida on a misdemeanor battery charge after allegedly punching a boy in the face and threatening to kill his family.

According to a statement released Sunday by the Walton County (Fla.) sheriff's office, Kromer and his son allegedly confronted three boys, who had been fishing on the beach, over the use of beach chairs.

Kromer, 48, has been accused of pushing one of the boys to the ground and punching him in the face after throwing the fishing pole into the water. Kromer allegedly then ordered that the chairs be returned to where they were found and told the boy that he would kill his family if he reported him to the police, according to the statement.

Kromer was booked into the Walton County Jail at 1:51 a.m. ET and was released on bond at 3:10 a.m.

"We are aware of the report and in the process of gathering the facts," the Bills said in a statement released later Sunday morning.

Kromer joined Rex Ryan's coaching staff in January after two seasons as the Chicago Bears' offensive coordinator.

According to a report in the Chicago Tribune last December, which multiple sources confirmed to ESPN, Kromer made a "tearful apology" during a team meeting after criticizing quarterback Jay Cutler to an NFL Network reporter.

Justin Hunter was charged with felonious assault following a July 3 incident at the Sandbar Raw Bar in Virginia Beach. Via the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office, the specific are malicious intent, stabbing, cutting, and wounding.

Hunter is due to be arraigned on Tuesday, and he’ll likely be put on paid leave, possibly before the arraignment. The bigger question is whether the Titans will put him on waivers.

I wonder what the Tacks will do......what will they do?.......... :

In The Tennessean, remember what comments Whisenhunt specifically directed to Hunter?......................."At some point, you either get it or you won't be in this league anymore, "That's the natural order of the NFL."..............................and that was in May BEFORE his criminal act.

WTF, I'm sure the NFL explained to him so it sounds like bickering about who should have been reinforcing and is still primarily on Gordon, and the article is vague about whether it was the charter home from the game or a airline home from the season but either way damn that's a stiff penalty for perfectly legal conduct.

The #Saints are releasing Junior Galette, source said. They’ve paid him $18M since last year. Wow.

Junior Galette recently met with @NFL officials, who are looking into 2 off-the-field incidents. #Saints have been frustrated for a while.

"(It was) the worst call they've ever made," Galette told NOLA.com | The Times Picayune Friday afternoon. "It was a terrible call to kick me when I'm down."

Galette met this summer with NFL officials in New York about his January arrest for domestic violence at his home in Kenner. The charge was later dismissed.

More recently, a video emerged last month showing a man a league source identified as Galette striking a woman with a belt during a brawl in 2013. The Saints said they forwarded the video to the league office, which was already investigating Galette in connection with the January arrest.
...
"Everything is Sean's call," Galette said. "He told me that himself. He's the one who pulls the trigger."

The financial implications of Galette's release could be huge for the Saints, who might be forced to carry as much as $16.1 million in so-called "dead money."

Even after Galette's new contract was restructured in March to clear cap space, the Saints must still account for $12.5 million in converted roster bonus and another $3.7 million in original signing bonuses.

By releasing him after June 1, however, the Saints would only have to take a $5.45 million cap charge in 2015 and could push $12.1 million (for the remaining bonuses) to 2016.
...
"I'm blessed and highly favored," he said. "I'm set for life. My mom's set for life. My son's set for life...This is not adversity. Adversity is getting kicked out of Temple with no money in your pocket."
...
Galette said he plans to play in 2015.

"I'm in the best shape of my life," he said. "My reaction is that I've never felt better."

Galette also expressed doubt that the Saints could easily replace him.

"Who else do they have? You tell me, who else do they have?" he said.

Galette said the Saints might learn from their mistake in releasing him.

"Who knows, maybe I'll get 40 sacks the next two years and we'll reunite," he said. "The business is the business, you know?"

Then he added, "Like Vito Corleone said, 'Watch for the traitors.'"
