NFL Network to televise regular-season games

NFL Network, the NFL's two-year-old television channel, will begin airing a "run up to the playoffs" package of eight primetime regular-season NFL games starting in the 2006 season, Commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced.

The eight-game package will consist of primetime games airing from Thanksgiving to the end of the regular season on Thursday and/or Saturday nights.

The inaugural game of the package is scheduled for Thanksgiving night on Thursday, Nov. 23, as part of a new Thanksgiving Day tripleheader. Games telecast on NFL Network will include pregame and postgame shows.

When the NFL starts to go to pay per view is the day I will stop watching.
Pay per view began the decline in boxing and can weaken any sport IMO!

PPV is only a matter of time, I believe. Years ago nobody had ever heard of paying for the opportunity to buy season tickets. The NFL didn't start this network for fun. It's all about making money. Will have to do it without me. As much as I like the game, sometimes you have to say no.

I dumped it as soon as they started going to commercial way before the commercial break. Dang Lawrence Marshall Chevy...:brickwall

I've got charter and NFL Network is not available to me, either. The only people I know with this channel have Direct TV. Lame of the NFL to do this to us. :thumbdown
 
It really sucks if you are a fan of a team outside of your city. The Cowboys and Skins play on Thanksgiving but unless you are in the DC or Dallas area you can not see the game without NFL Network.
 
I've got DirectTv, and have NFL network, so this is cool by me. I thought I heard Dish was getting it too, but am not sure. As far as I know, no cable systems have it. I also see that the games will be on broadcast tv in the regions of both teams, so nobody in those markets will go without. All I know is someone up there loves me - DirecTV. :yahoo:

Dish Network has it too, but you have to get at least the 120 channel package to have it in there. I was just researching this today and have about 99% decided to drop Directv for Dish. Of course, if you still want NFL Sunday Ticket, Directv is the only place you can get it.
I also found that if you're on earthlink, you get $5/month off both the earthlink AND dish bills.

There are a lot of people who live where there is no team. Fans like that, and there are a lot of them are getting the shaft.

Me too it was available about 1 month ago or 2 but i havent been able to get since if you have digital cable it used to be channel 303 but from one day to another it went off air.
 
This doesn't mean its going to end up on PPV. Its really just like having a 3rd primetime game per week or a second ESPN type game a week.

Not really. If you dont have NFL Network yoiu dont see the game.
 
The NFL is a business. All they are doing is driving up their cost for providers. The demand would be so high due to pressure from subscribers. It makes for the NFL to set the bar as high as they want it.
 
Looks like David Barron from the Chronicle has opened dialogue with Time Warner Houston spokesman Ray Purser.

I would suggest emailing Barron if you are a current Time Warner (or other) customer, thanking him for shining light on the issue and asking him to keep the pressure on Purser.

If it's in the newspaper enough, at least it might force some answers out of the TWC borg. I will switch from TWC to Direct TV in a heartbeat if TWC doesn't add it to their package (at a reasonable price). I'm surprised I haven't already made the switch...

According to Barron, Houston and New York City are the only NFL/TWC markets in the country where NFL Network is not available.

DirecTV for nine years and loving the value that it constantly brings. There is no comparision in picture between cable and satellite or for that matter cable and over the air. I have all three.
 
Why would the NFL go to PPV. They already have Sunday Ticket, which is a form of PPV. With the Networks they get a guarenteed amount each year. The NFL Network Package only lets the NFL increase thier advertising package on NFL Network and pretty much force it to be added to cable in both the New York and Houston Markets. It is all about the Money.

How much does DirecTV cost a month? Do you use the internet with it?

I have road runner through Time Warner, could I switch to DirectTV and keep road runner?

Yes you can. I use to use time warner for everything and dropped the cable when I moved. Just make sure they know you plan on keeping the Road Runner.

I have DirecTV $69/month is our package, no internet. I have Road Runner for high speed.

I wonder if TWC charges more for rr.com if you drop the cable? I guess a phone call is in order.

My monthy charge is $44.95 for Roadrunner High Speed and $42.99 for their standard cable package.
 
As an outside Houston fan it's tough for local stations to support your team. Look at where I live, El Paso, TX, a good 700 miles from Dallas and we get every single Cowboy game. It's tough to tell stations to televise the Texans after not having a winning season yet. This is why I bought DirectTV so that I can see the games I want, not what the "ratings" dictate. If the NFL went Pay per view it's no big deal to me, but I'd have to agree that it would be a turn off to many fans.

They do charge more for rr.com if you do not have cable. It used to be like $5, but I am not sure if that has gone up. You could always to go DSL. The only time you will notice a difference between DSL and Cable is if you download a lot of large files all the time.
