next season's starting center?

TommyS

Waterboy
obviously, we all hope that Drew Hogdon is the next coming of Matt Birk or Kevin Mawae, but if he's not, here's an option...

from CBS sportsline,
"Bentley was a center in college at Ohio State, but moved to guard in his first season in the league with the Saints. Veteran Jerry Fontenot started for the Saints at center in 2002 and 2003, before Bentley took over last season.

Bentley was dominant as a guard, which was part of the reason the Saints were reluctant to make the move. Bentley, though, always considered himself as a center.

Bentley could be facing a similar predicament. His contract is up after this season, and the word is the Saints have not offered him the type of money he's looking to get. If he sells himself as a guard on the free-agent market, the money may come more easily. "

we love paying our average lineman huge contracts, so we should have no problems finding money for this kid...

Don't have any specific recollection of his play, but for stats:

Bentley (2002/2003/2004)--penalties 6/8/5, sacks allowed 1/3.5/2.25--missed 5 games during this time period.

McKinney--penalties 2/3/0, sacks allowed 2/3.75/3.5

This coming draft is loaded with linemen on bothe sides. I think the Texans will go that direction and not the FA way.

:crying: Yeah but those lineman don't fit our system . We look for guys who can false start or miss blocks . This is what Carr's used to , why change .

Speaking of Ohio St. centers .....Nick Mangold Looked very solid Vs. Texas. :tv:

Mangold did look impressive, he is a leader & has the kind of character that is sucessful @ the next level. he is also the top rated Center in the draft, ahead of Eslinger, Minnesota. Center's do not usually go very high in the draft maybe late 1st rd. (Cris Spencer went 26th last yr. to Seattle).

I believe that McKinney will remain the starting center of the Houston Texans at least through next year

I agree with your assessment on his talent and leadership skills .....

Several draft sites have him listed quite a bit lower ... some no where near the top prospect ...although I expect him to move up the charts .... That D-line he played against Texas is probably the best in the nation and he was very good .

NFL Draft Countdown lists him as the 7th center
