New NFL rule

Last week i heard on NFL total access that the NFL had made a new rule banning excessive celebrations on touchdowns. Does this mean that the Texans arent gonna be able to jump to the stands anymore? Please if anyone knows the answer to this can you let me know?

NFL owners approved the adoption of an automatic 15-yard penalty for excessive celebrations by two or more players after two seasons in which the league has been embarrassed by a hidden cell phone trick and an end-zone autograph.

Although the celebrations have always been discouraged and subject to fines, players now will face a more painful alternative -- the wrath of their coach for drawing an unsportsmanlike conduct flag.

The rule also will cover the "possession of foreign or extraneous objects that are not part of the uniform during the game or on the sideline."

I personally hate how they are getting rid of these celebrations. I loved it when TO pulled out the Sharpie and Horn the cell phone. The all time greatest was, IMO, was Chad Johnson pulling out the sign that said: "Dear NFL, Please dont fine me AGAIN!!!"
Thats the greatest.

The part of it that stunk was when Carr and Mckinney were demonstrating how over here with The Texans, cell phones just are class enough act and they get fined for it. All I know is when I go to a game that I spend over 75.00 for the ticket alone, and over 100.00 in food and merchandise combined, and I see my favorite team score a TD, I want to be entertained with a little something extra. This rule sucks. The best way to get rid of it, is if you just don't show them celebrating on TV.

I dont think it makes any sense. Why take away the celebrations, who is it hurting, I can see execcive celebration like taunting the apposeing bench or something of that caliber. Its all in fun, if TO wants to give an autograph to a fan or do a little dance with some pom-poms its alright with me.

Everybody has a limit on what they want to see in celebrations--they just don't agree on what it should be. They had to draw the line somewhere--they said no props and no big preplanned multi-player celebrations. Hardly seems to be so restrictive as to take out the fun IMO.

From Rich McKay:

“This has nothing to do with the Lambeau leap, the spike, the sack dance or throwing the ball over the goal post. But the demonstrations are becoming more sophisticated and more pre-planned than they’ve ever been. That’s why we focused on a penalty instead of just a fine.”

someone should start a pation(sp?) to tell the NFL how much we love TO sharpie and joe horns cell phone

Texans it's "petition" - but got the point.

Agree somewhat about the ruling - probably just to put a limit on it before it gets further out of hand. I think they can still get creative with the celebrations without the "extra accessories" to really jab the opponent (see texans avatar above).

On the flip side, why not celebrate? The whole point of the game is to work you way down field and get some points as a reward. You achieve the goal, why not celebrate?

Whew... had a Kerry moment taking both side of the fence there.
