NE trades chandler jones to Arizona

Chandler Jones is going to become an unrestricted free agent next off-season. Isn't this a bit of a gamble for Arizona? I like the trade from New England's perspective. Especially if they end up signing Chandler Jones in free agency next year. LOL.

Then again that would be the genuise known as Bill Belichick. He's already improving the Patriots' offensive line without a first-round pick. Watch him that use extra second-round pick on more O-Line help.

Arizona better win the Super Bowl this year for this particular trade to really matter for them. Either that or re-sign Chandler Jones. We'll see if they can.

Interesting comment to the news (from the link)

This is what happens in NE when you show up at a police station wasted and crying for your mommy.

Jones have some baggage maybe?

NE didn't want to sign Jones to the mega deal long-term extension that he will be looking for next offseason. Arizona really really needs a pass rusher so if he performs for them next year there is a much higher chance they are willing to pay him. NE gets an interior lineman (which they desperately needed) and a 2nd round pick to help compensate for their lack of a 1st.

Good trade for both sides.

What makes you think Jones will have a warm fuzzy for NE after they trade him?
Good point. Although the Patriots clearly had some offensive line issues last year, and they're doing a pretty good job addressing it so far this off-season. Even adding another second-round pick to boot, when they had no first-round picks.

People say this draft is deep with pass rushers, tons of good DEs and also DTs for that matter. They may be able to snag a future starter (defensive end) in the second, third or fourth round..

Chandler Jones has to play well for Arizona, and re-sign there past 2016, if this trade is going to pay off for them. Or if Chandler Jones leaves in free agency next off-season but the Cardinals win Super Bowl 51 at NRG Stadium here in Houston, I'd still call it a good trade for Arizona.

For now, I think the Patriots have gotten the better end of the trade. Because they could always, in theory, sign Chandler Jones in free agency next off-season (landing the same player) while still adding a young offensive lineman to help fill a major need right now, and an extra draft pick (potentially a good young player in the second round) on top of that.

Money talks. I know that much. He could go to any team. The one that offers him the most money is likely where he will end up.

That is why I felt good about Brock Osweiler coming to the Texans as soon as it was reported they were going to use the franchise tag on Von Miller. But people laughed at me and kept saying no way the Broncos will let him go with Peyton Manning likely retiring.

I just don't think Arizona has any better chance to keep him past 2016. Unless they have their franchise tag available to use on him? Unless I'm not seeing something right now. Perhaps he just loves Arizona and it's a sure thing he's going to re-sign there long term.

Teams generally go crazy "over spending" for free agent pass rushers. I don't envision the Arizona Cardinals winning a bidding war for Chandler Jones' services next off-season. They better enjoy him while they can in 2016. Hopefully he stays healthy.

The Giants just made Olivier Vernon the highest-paid defensive end in the game (5 years, $85 million). Second highest paid defensive player in the game. A bigger guaranteed signing bonus than what the Texans gave J.J. Watt ($52.5 million).

Chandler Jones would be wise to be asking for a contract in that ballpark. If I were his agent, I'd be starting at that asking price and talking to as many teams as possible during next year's free agent class.

Chandler Jones is going to cash in next year at this time.
The New England Patriots made a very good trade today.

Fyi both players are in the last year of their contracts. NE has an option for another year but it is before they see the guy play (this May) and is for over $11 mil.

We'll see. Maybe the Cardinals did make a good trade. It's one of those trades that will take time to materialize. It's hard to define it one way or another. We still have to see what the Patriots do with that second-round pick. Bill Belichick deserves the benefit of the doubt given his track record.

Wolverine called it a good trade for both sides. That's probably the best thing to say given the needs of both teams.

I dunno, wonder what Belichick thinks of Clowney who played a strong game (sacked Brady twice) against his team last year ? He now has an xtra second-round pick for the upcoming Draft.

The 2nd round pick saves the deal for NE. Cooper's been a huge disappointment since being drafted that high.
