Round 1
1. Carolina Panthers- Blaine Gabbert 64 234 QB Missouri
The Panthers have no one right now to line up at QB. I know they selected Clausen last year but he looked horrible and they have a new regime now, which will have no attachments to previous year draft picks. To me this pick comes down to Gabbert and Newton. While I feel that Newton has more upside, Gabbert is the safer pick and he still has a lot of potential. Had a great pro day and could easily be the first pick in the draft.
2. Denver Broncos- Marcell Dareus 63 319 DT/DE Alabama
This pick to me was between Dareus, Bowers, and Peterson. DE is less of a need for the Broncos as they have Ayers a former 1st round pick and Dumerville who is a great talent. They also resigned Bailey making CB a lesser need. Marcell Dareus had a great combine, and has increased his stock tremendously. Despite having great size, weighing in at 319 he posted a great 40 time at 4.92. With the switch back to the 4-3, Denver has no DT as they recently released Bannan. Dareus is the best available DT on the board, and will be a dominant player in the NFL.
3. Buffalo Bills- Cam Newton 65 248 QB Auburn
The Bills need a QB to replace Ryan Fitzpatrick. While Fitzpatrick is a solid player, he is not an NFL starter. Buddy Nix has stated that he wants a franchise QB, and Newton is the best available QB. Despite having a poor combine, being very inaccurate on his throws, he has the intangibles and leadership that you look for in a NFL QB. If he has a solid pro day, he will defiantly be the pick here.
4. Cincinnati Bengals- A.J. Green 64 211 WR Georgia
The Bengals have no one to place across from Jerome Simpson with Chad Ochocinco/Johnson most likely gone. A.J. Green is probably the best WR prospect\ in the draft since Calvin Johnson and would be a huge upgrade for the Bengals organization. Not to mention pleasing Carson Palmer who could be on his way to retirement if he doesnt get help.
5. Arizona Cardinals- Von Miller 63 246 OLB/DE Texas A&M
Despite Miller having a great combine; he falls a bit for me in this mock. The Cardinals need a talented OLB that can rush the passer. They had nothing there last season and get lucky having Miller fall to them at this spot. Miller posted a 4.46 40 time and was impressive in every drill he participated in.
6. Cleveland Browns- Patrick Peterson 60 219 CB LSU
Despite using the 7th last year on Joe Haden, Peterson is too good of a talent to pass up at 6 here. Peterson, possibly the best talent in the draft, had an unbelievable combine posting a 4.32 40 time at 6. Browns get a steal here and potentially get the best pair of CB in a few years with Haden and Peterson.
7. San Francisco 49ers- Prince Amukamara 61 205 CB Nebraska
San Francisco is upset Peterson did not fall to them at 7, but get a pretty good consolation price in Amukamara. Amukamara had a solid combine and should be a great player. Nate Clements is due a ton of money over the next few years and is past his prime. Amukamara would man the other side and take over when Clements is gone.
8. Tennessee Titans- Nick Fairley 64 297 DE/DT Auburn
Fairley is the 2nd best DT in the draft, and the Titans need a DT since the departure of Albert Haynesworth. Fairleys stock drops a bit due to a mediocre combine and his questionable character and work ethic, but the Titans usually over look that. Fairley could be a great pick here for the Titans or could be one of this drafts biggest busts.
9. Dallas Cowboys Tyron Smith 65 310 OT USC
With both of the top CB off of the board, Cowboys address their 2nd biggest need at OT. Smith looked great at his Pro Day and would be an instant upgrade at the OT position. Tony Romo needs to be protected and Smith will help achieve that .
10. Washington Redskins- Julio Jones 64 220 WR Alabama
The Redskins need a QB but with Gabbert and Newton off the board they will go with the BPA. Satanana Moss is a free agent this year, and even if he resigns the Redskins need another WR. Jones would bolster this WR core that without Moss would include Jones, Armstrong and Cooley playing TE.
11. Houston Texans- Robert Quinn 64 265 DE/OLB North Carolina
With the two best CB off the board, and Julio Jones who couldve been a valuable 2nd WR for them, they go with a rush linebacker. Switching to the 3-4, there only viable option at OLB is Connor Barwin who had a horrible injury last season. Robert Quinn is a great player who could easily have been a top 5 pick had he not be suspended last season.
12. Minnesota Vikings- Cameron Jordan 64 283 DE/DT California
The Vikings are in need of a QB, but with both of the top QB off the board, the Vikings go with Jordan. Jordan is more of a 3-4 DE but as a 4-3 player he can play both inside and outside giving a lot of value to this pick. The Vikings are weak at the DE spot so Jordan would seriously help this front 7.
13. Detroit Lions- DaQuan Bowers 63 276 DE Clemson
The Detroit Lions are in need of a CB desperately, but with both of the top CB already drafted I cant see them selecting Smith or Harris this early. They are also in need of an OLB and Ayers could be the pick here, but I feel they will try to upgrade the DL. Bowers who at one point was a top 5 pick has killed his draft status due to his injury. If Bowers can get healthy he will be a steal here, and would join a line that already has Suh and could take over for Vanden Bosch.
14. St. Louis Rams- Aldon Smith 64 263 DE/OLB Missouri
The Rams are in need of a WR but with both A.J. Green and Julio Jones off the board they will have to go another direction. James Hall who had 10.5 sacks last season turns 34 so it would be hard to expect the same level of production out of him. Drafting Smith will give them Halls successor and help this DL.
15. Miami Dolphins- Mark Ingram 510 215 RB Alabama
The Dolphins need a QB as Chad Henne has not been able to produce as their QB. With both of the top QBs off the board, the Dolphins will look for a RB to replace Brown and Williams.
16. Jacksonville Jaguars-Ryan Kerrigan 64 274 DE Purdue
Aaron Kampman is done for after his 2nd ACL tear. Jaguars need a DE to replace him and they love Kerrigan. Has a great motor and competiveness and could be a very solid starter in the league. While he doesnt have as much upside as others he will be a very consistent player.
17. New England Patriots(From Oakland)- J.J.Watt 65 290 DE/DT Wisconsin
The Patriots need a 3rd DL to pair with Ty Warren and Vince Wilfork. Watt is a very athletic consistent player that will make a solid 5 technique and would be a huge addition to this DL.
18. San Diego Chargers- Muhammad Wilkerson 64 315 DE/DT Temple
The Chargers need a replacement Jacques Cesaire and Wilkerson seems to be that player. Wilkerson was impressive at the combine running a 4.99, which is great at 315 pounds. Wilkerson would be an instant upgrade for the Chargers.
19. New York Giants-Anthony Castonzo 67 305 OT Boston College
The Giants are in need of a RB. Brandon Jacobs has been a huge disappointment, while Ahmad Bradshaw is a free agent, but with Ingram off the board, the Giants go with OT here. Castonzo had a decent combine and proved he is a good OT in his years at BC.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Justin Houston 63 267 DE Georgia
The Bucs need a DE desperately, and Houston is a good pick here. Despite playing 3-4 OLB in college he has the frame, and many expect him to be an NFL 4-3 DE. Houston has good speed and size and would be an instant upgrade for the Bucs DL.
21. Kansas City Chiefs- Akeem Ayers 63 254 OLB UCLA
The Chiefs can use help at OLB position especially if they cannot retain Tamba Hali. Akeem Ayers is the best available 3-4 OLB who despite his poor combine had a solid pro day. Ayers is athletic and can really rush the passer.
22. Indianapolis Colts- Gabe Carimi 67 314 OT Wisconsin
The Colts have to get help on the OL especially the LT position. Charlie Johnson was horrible this year. Carimi was solid at the combine and had a very impressive senior bowl.
23. Philadelphia Eagles- Derek Sherrod 66 311 OT Mississippi State
The Eagles need a RT, as Clay Matthews was unstoppable in the playoff game. Sherrod looked great at his pro day and could step in immediately at RT for the Eagles.
24. New Orleans Saints- Corey Liuget 62 298 DT Illinois
Despite signing Shaun Rodgers, the Saints still need help at the DT position. Liuget is the best available DT and could become a great player in the NFL.
25. Seattle Seahawks- Jake Locker 63 227 QB Washington
Seahawks need a QB with Hasselbeck aging. Locker had a poor season, but had an impressive pro day, and has great athleticism. If Pete Carroll thinks he is the answer, Locker will be the pick here.
26. Baltimore Ravens- Jimmy Smith 62 210 CB Colorado
The Ravens need some help at the cornerback position. Their top 4 CB are FA so they go with CB in the first. Smith has as much talent as any CB in this draft, but falls due to his character issues. Ravens could get a steal here if they can keep Smith focused.
27. Atlanta Falcons- Adrian Clayborn 63 278 DE Iowa
The Falcons can use a WR across from Roddy White to help out Matty Ice. With no elite WR left on the board, The Falcons decide to go DL. Abraham had a great season last year, but he is turning 33 and who knows how much he has left. Clayborn is a great athlete with a good motor and he plays very hard.
28. New England Patriots- Nate Solder 68 307 OT Colorado
The next biggest need after OLB for the Pats is an OT. Solder is the best available OT and would provide an immediate upgrade at the OT position. Solder looked great at his pro day and should make a solid OT.
29. Chicago Bears- Mike Pouncey 65 303 OG FLorida
The Bears need a LT and a LG this draft. Pouncey is the best available OG on the board and had a good pro day. Has great athleticism and should make a great OG in the NFL.
30. New York Jets- Cameron Hayward 65 295 DE/DT Ohio State
Shaun Ellis is a solid player, but he is turning 34 and is also a FA. Heyward is a very solid player and has great potential at the 5-technique position.
31. Pittsburgh Steelers- Aaron Williams 60 204 CB/FS Texas
Steelers could use an upgrade over Bryant McFadden. While I do not know if Williams will be a CB or FS, he would be a good fit in the Steelers secondary.
32. Green Bay Packers- Brooks Reed 63 263 DE/OLB Arizona
Packers need an upgrade at the other OLB position. Brooks Reed is a very high motor player who reminds me of Clay Matthews. Reed and Matthews could become the two best pass rushers in the NFL making the Super Bowl Champs even more scary.
1. Carolina Panthers- Blaine Gabbert 64 234 QB Missouri
The Panthers have no one right now to line up at QB. I know they selected Clausen last year but he looked horrible and they have a new regime now, which will have no attachments to previous year draft picks.
