national media vs local fans mock drafts

it seems the whole world has decided we are taking Alex Baron with the 13th pick in the draft. Come draft day i can't wait to see Kiper and everyone get it wrong. If we do pick him it will be a very uneventful draft, even though he would be an upgrade.

i have not found 1 mock draft that has us doing anything other than alex barron. i just want the real draft to come so we can get another name next to our logo.

I have seen a few national ones that have us taking someone besides Alex Baron but you're right. It really is aggravating. It shows they really put no time or effort researching the Texans needs. Most are using our attempted trade for Orlando Pace and past sack numbers as a sign that LT is our most glaring need. Most locals will tell you center is the weak spot on the OL.

Another position these national mocks list as a Texan weakness is ss. Once again locals know what a good job Glen Earl did as a rookie. DL needs some youth as depth and that could step in and start without being such a drop off in talent if an injury were to unfortunately happen to one of our aging lineman. We also need lb and cb but not at the point where we would have to reach to get one.

And finally wr. Yes we need speed at the number 2 wr position. The national media is starting to pick up on this one and it is a valid need. The Texans could go so many different directions in this draft that it is hard to even speculate. One thing I would bet we don't do though is draft Alex Baron.

True, linemen don't make sexy picks. But, you can't play the game without them (although it seemed the Texans attempted to in the Browns game).

Here's a mock from Ourlads that has the Texans selecting South Carolina WR Troy Williamson. A sexy pick.

I like & use our lads all the time, they also have a real fine guide coming out this week.

The main reason I think that generic mock drafts have Barron married to that 13th pick is because of his talent (un-tapped?) & his draft grade warrants lofty (should be a top 10 pick) prsopect status. this is where he falls in the pecking order of talent in the draft. so he could go +/- picks either way, its just convienent in that the Texans need to protect Carr better and in general the LT position is considered protecting his back or blind side.

Being the #1 talent in the draft at a premier position like LT is not such a bad thing for the Texans, several teams need one too & I smell a trade down in the works that benifits both Barron and Texans :coffee:

If we decide to trade down with someone who is desperate to get Barron if he's still there at #13, I could see us picking David Baas.

Well maybe STL would like to move up, Carolina, and one more int the 20's to get the #1 OT in Barron

I've read a few things saying that Titans GM Floyd Reese is in love with Barron and could very possibly take him at 6...The smart thing for them to do would be to trade down a spot or two if Mike Williams or Braylon Edwards falls if they really want Barron...

Anyway, staying on topic, most national outlets pay as much attention to the Texans as we pay to the Bengals (random team) so when they do their mocks, they just throw a name down and don't really pay attention to how well the player would fit in our scheme, the depth at the position, etc...Most internet mocksters get their info from a select few, and if those few say Barron, then they won't take the time to research it and throw their name down...

Well SS definitely isn't a strength. Our starter has a history of injury and didn't exactly light the world on fire. All we can say about Earl is that he didn't embarass himself.

Arent the Titans tryin not to spend money. I think the Titans trading down and selectin him is the way to go. They did release half their team and trade their DE
