Myron Cope - Voice of the Steelers

I dont think I could ever watch a game commentated by him IMHO. He talks about something for 1/2 a second then goes off to another topic for 5 mins then goes back to the original topic for 2 secs then goes to an entirely new topic etc etc. He does all that without making any sense at all. I dont mean to be harsh or anything, just it seems a little annoying to me.
 
I know that the Basketball HOF has inducted broadcasters before, and Chic Hern (sp?) comes to mind as one of those broadcasters. I also think that the Baseball HOF does the same thing, but does the Football HOF induct anouncers/broadcasters? I hope so because there's no doubt in my mind that Myron Coupe belongs there for his significant contributions to the NFL.
 
Wow. It's amzing what sports, media, and entertainment really mean to your life. I am originally from Pittsburgh, grew up under a Steeler Household, and went to every Steeler home game before moving to Houston, since age 1. I was there for some of the greatest moments in franchise history, biggest losses, and remember all of the biggest moments up until this time. All have the strong aroma still left in my senses due to Myron Cope. My father still has an "ORIGINAL" towel for the first year Myron introduced them, not the copy-cats that are used at games now in pittsburgh or around the league. I remember Myron being drunk on the air and stumbling over words, and the clear dictation of his catch phrase, "MMM, Ha!" I remember growing up listening to his evening talk show, with him choosing to discuss nothing but the Steelers and caring less about the other thriving sports in the town at the time. It was a great moment in my life and he introduced many to enjoying the game on the radio, whether in the stands at the game, or in the warmth of your home for away broadcast. He was part of a great era, where radio host got paid little, meant a lot, and didn't mind! I'm sure he will be missed forever in the mind of the Original Ol' Time Steeler fan, even though the new age "white collar fan" in Pittsburgh may never know. Farwell to a great one, and may his "MMM, HA!" ring ears in PBurgh Forever!!! :highfive:

That was the entire method to his madness and what made him great. He had his own style, and you either loved him, or hated him! Most in Pittsburgh Loved him. People from Cleveland hated him!!!.....LOL Not only a good on air personality, but a class individual also!!

Maybe some, but certainly not all. Hell, I know Steeler fans that hated him too.
 
I didn't know he retired. It is certainly an end of a era. He gave steelers games a certain throw back feel and made them feel special, especially during their playoff run last year. He definitely belongs in the HOF. Whoever replaces him has big shoes to fill
 
He was a classic, I remember listening to him when the internet broadcasts were FREE!!! He reminded me of Johnny Most, the old Celtics announcer.
