My top 50 draft prospects

Wow, you had Jennings rated pretty high. Overall, nice list.

I like Alphonso Smith a bunch too. He reminds me a little of Dunta.
 
I know SEC Guy is stoked about Andre Smith grading out so high, but is a little leary of Stafford being graded that high??
 
LZ I love reading youre posts and blogs and I appreciate the time you must put in them. One thing I wish you would do however is make a Texans big board. If you could come up with the time I know it would be really appreciated around here. If not I understand you are a busy guy. Thanks and keep up the great work.

Rashad Jennings cracking your top 50 is a bold lay down of prognostication without remorse. I for one, am buying it. The more videos I see of him, coupled with the back story, the more I am interested to find out if the Texans are visiting with him.

I would like to see your thoughts on Pettigrew and Darius Butler, as prospects.
 
Does Jackson bring anything more to the table than Marcus Spears did? Spears went mid-first I believe, but I feel that Spears was a better prospect than Jackson. Jackson was being looked at prior to the season as a 4-3 dominant DE. That failed, so he has been moved into the 3-4 DE category.

Andre Smith is a tough case. I think he is easily one of the most talented players in the draft, but I have reservations about putting him that high based on NFL career criteria. I think it will take something extra on his behalf to get over the last 3 months of his NFL prep.

I really like Alphonso Smith as well. I think you could completely validate having him top 20. Like you said, another inch or two and he is top 10. He's 5'9 but he registered a good vertical and has great awareness that help make up for it. His size will always limit him, but he has the ability to stay with anyone out of their break. Another guy you might like, Lance, is Mark Parson from Ohio. Obviously not a top 50 guy, but similar attributes to Smith with a little bit better size. Really quick out of his breaks.

Otherwise, I think everything else is within the acceptable range allowing for a personal touch. Nicely done. I would also like to see more of your comments for each player.

That is a GREAT idea. I will do that this year. I usually have guys in each round who I project are potential Texans, but I've never done the "big board" format with just the Texans.

I think Butler is overrated. He's not the toughest kid out there and I think he's more athlete than football player. I'm not alone in that thought although I readily admit he'll go higher than where I have him rated.

I think Pettigrew is one of those players who isn't sexy but can have a big impact on the X's and O's of the game. He isn't fast and he can't stretch the field vertically down the seam, but his ability to block in the running game is major. It helps the running game, obviously, but it also makes play-action more dangerous because the better your passing game, the closer safeties have to play to the line of scrimmage. It is rare to find good "combo" TEs who can catch the ball well and who can block as well as he can.

I am totally into Jennings. His size/quickness makes me think that he will be very successful in the league and a great value in the 2nd to early 3rd which is where I think he will go. Shady McCoy is a dancer and a guy who bounces it outside. Jennings will hit it in the hole.

Also, I caught some flack in our mock for taking Delmas with the 46th pick. What do you think? Chung or Delmas? I think Delmas because his ability to cover, but I see why people think that we don't need another fs as much as a ss after resigning Wilson. You just never know if Wilson is going to pull a Demps on us.

the more I see of Butler on film the more I like him. He is very athletic, that shows itself but no reason why he cannot be developed into more of a "football player'. He did stay in school (5th year senior) hopefully he has matured, can focus & improve his football skills. one thing you can't teach @ the cb position is speed & ability to recover. he has that.

totally agree with Pettigrew, heck I would not mind if the Texans selected him, he would help Brown so much @ LT & give Schaub a Red-Zone threat.

same with Jennings, don't think he'll last til the Texans 3rd. pick.

I have Ayers as a solid pick in 2nd but agree that he might be gone before then. I would then look at RB Jennings. Yes we might get a good player later like Cedric Peerman who I have in 5th. However, a big, fast RB is a priority need so if Jennings is there in 2nd, he's mine. Slaton, Jennings, Peerman, Moats ( I know little of him) and maybe Gartrell Johnson in 6th or 7th to fight it out. Peerman's size and combine speed 4.45 is pretty hard to ignore. Yes, I do realize I am RB heavy and I like it. Uh huh! Uh Huh!.

That was the first thing that came to my mind when I ran across your top fitty earlier. Would be very cool to see.

And I agree... I highly doubt Jennings is there for us in the 3rd. Shame. We really need to use our 2nd on D as well.

Too hard to pin down. The Texans, like the Broncos under Shanahan, are a little slippery when it comes to their draft philosophy. I think they keep a more open mind than some franchises which makes it tougher to pin them down by position.
