My question when debating Carr vs. Vince

I don't think Vince would do much better than Carr. Vince wouldn't be able to make plays with his legs and if he tries, he's probably going to get hurt. Carr isn't our problem. All you Young lovers think Carr is our problem only because VY entered the draft and you want him instead.

You're missing something alright. I know VY is superman, but I don't think he can take the snap, then block the nose tackle charging up the middle, then keep up with Dwight Freeney coming off the outside, then run a crisp route, catch the ball, turn on the jets, and take it for 6. He might be a good QB with weapons around him, but drafting VY now is starting over, plain and simple. It would kill our cap, devalue Carr, and make it nearly impossible to sign any linemen in FA.

Michael Vick is about Reggie Bush's size. If Reggie can handle it, I'm sure Vince can.

Honestly, I don't think any QB would have faired much better than Carr behind the 2-14 offense.

No consistent pocket, a complete failure of offensive players to pick up one blitz (much less multiple defenders coming through), a lack of a receiving TE, WRs that couldn't get open or make catches on a regular basis, and an offensive gameplan that is about as vanilla and uninspired as can exsist.

I think there were a myriad of factors contributing to the meltdown. I'm not sure if I believe Carr can rebound or not, either. Dude has taken over 200+ sacks in his first four years. At some point he's got to suffer from shellshock and have reflexes that respond accordingly. Not a good thing for a QB.

So you think McNabb, Culpepper, and Steve Young are all faster than Vince??

But you're right. Until Vince entered the Draft, I didn't see any difference Between Carr, and any other Quarterback available to us. If we had won some games this year(Like I was rooting for us to beat SanFrancisco) and would have been out of the top ten, I'd be upset that we wouldn't have a chance to pick Young. I wouldn't be talking trade up or anything like that. But we are where we are.

Vince would make a lot of very good plays out of what are now Carr sacks. Anyone that thinks otherwise hasn't watched the guy very long. Still, our O-line is so atrocious that teams could get pressure without over committing with large blitzes. With just the front four gettting pressure, Vince would escape them often but just find a full set of linebackers behind them for not very big plays. The other technical thing that would have hurt Vince this year is having Steve "they get a pay check too!" Mckinney in his lap all day long. It's much easier for Vince to step up avoiding the outside rushers and make his slashes either right up the middle or up and then to the outside. Mckinney gets man handled so often Vince would have been backing up and taking the long way around moving into the outside pressure taking some sacks himself. Just sure up the line a little bit for next year and Vince could make alot of plays with his feet in year one. If we do that and keep Carr, we just hope he gets some semblance of pocket presence back. If you were to look at tape from this year and his first 2 I'm positive you'd see an alarming increase of Carr running into sacks when there was a pocket in the middle, simply holding the ball too long, taking avoidable sacks outside the tackles, or running out of bounds behind the line (usually not huge losses on these but still just incredibly odd QB play).

I dont think Carr has bee given a real chance to showcase his talent due to a terrible offensive line and poor coaching. I think he is a class act and has a bright future ahead of him, BUT make no mistake about it if you want that stadium sold out every Sunday (with people actually in all of the seats) you have to take VY. From an ownership standpoint I would think they have to realize that drafting Vince would pack the house from day one and leave very little room for the fan base to complain if things didn't work out. If you let him slide to somebody else like Tenn. and he's a superstar, the ownership will never live that down. It's too risky NOT to take VY. It's a tough call no doubt. :brickwall

I think Young MIGHT (probably) be better than Carr EVENTUALLY, but I don't think that eventual improvement is worth us spending a #1 pick right now. He's worth a #1 of course, but not to us. It's not like our QB is getting old.
