My Opinion on why you don't sign big name free agents this year.

1. We are in a total rebuild mode, rebuilding any re-word other than re-signing throws a red flag in a star players face.. You can say money talks but winning speaks for itself.

2. Because of our record it would be a detriment to have a superstar on the team. Superstars get frustrated when the team doesnt win. You want a positive vibe from young guys who want to make their mark on a team not some high priced player that could bring a negative vibe if the team doesnt win in the timefrime they feel they should.

3. Why shore up one hole with all our money instead of signing key role players to fill many voids?

Agree or disagree Ill take all reaction...

Very nicely said. I think we shoulda maybe grabbed 1 big name player but then again i'd rather grab alot of young guns who will be good in 2-3 years and are cheap and let them all develop together. Then it wont be A SUPERSTAR it will be a TEAM of SUPERSTAR'(S).

Good theory.......BUT.

We signed WEAVER for BIG-TIME money

and gave Sage Rosenfels some serious money to hold a clip-board and possibly beat out Dave Ragone for a BACKUP job.

If they really wanted to fill holes with young guys, and save cap room......then why not wait until the end of FA to sign a 2nd/3rd string QB to a lot cheaper contract?

I like the idea of saving money for years where we can be competitive, but, they aren't really doing that anyways.

I agree with what you said. No need to bring in a superstar that will become a problem if the team is not winning any games. The coaching staff is doing things the right way by Filling in the holes the team has with quality role players. Beats signing one guy to a huge contract and leaving your team with many holes to fill. Keep up the good work guys. Things are starting to come around nicely.

Yes they were given big contracts but Weaver was a serious need if we were converting to a 4-3 because he will play strongside run defensive end, thereby leaving us with the Pass rush Right Defensive end hole to fill...

Rosenfels I think came with the notion to motivate and push Carr kinda like what Mariucci did last year when he signed Garcia to play behind Harrington. Plus if we signed a bargain basement backup QB probably Carr would then go down with an injury and we would be stuck with that. I didnt like it either, but what can you do other than try to see why they did it?

Also keep in mind teams always end up paying more in FA why do you think players want to test the market so bad? you just have to do your research and envision what you see that player doing if he fits and what future contributions will he make? Ive never heard of a player who was a steal in FA...

I guess Bush will satisfy the desire for a "superstar."

Free agency isn't over and the draft is a month away. The coaching staff has a clue. These are reasons to relax and wait for the picture to develop. I'm not sure why everything has to be done this second. Clearly the team is not done with free agency.
