My New 2012 NFL Mock Draft

Very fine work, really like it but think the Texans will be selecting much later than #11. How did you project team draft slots anyway? How does Coples compare to Mario & Burfict compare to Willis/Lewis?

He used the 2011 draft order. I think ILB might become a pressing need next year but not because of Cushing but rather because of Ryans. I hope it's not true but I think Ryans is considerably slower on the field when coming back from the achilles injury. I think the Texans top needs next year will be at FS/SS and NT. I think we'll need help/depth at every defensive position and might go almost exclusively defense again in 2012.

Thanks guys, the order was just last year's order for simplicity.

As far as NT's and FS/SS's there are no clear cut top prospects out there. I have Barron going 15 to Miami but that might be a little to high for him. There are no real standouts at those positions as of right now. Hence why I have the Texans taking Burfict.

Enjoyed the read but if Texans draft # 11 ain't watching them no more. It looks like you have Jeff Fuller WR avail # 20 where I have Texans selected & that's good. We can get FS later rounds but if we do not get CB positions shored up, we are not going anywhere. With 7-8 players in the box, somebody better have a plan for DBs.:jogger:

I always love mock drafts... even way too early ones!

After two preseason games I feel like the biggest area of need is on the inside of our front 7. I think we'll have a great pass rush but teams will run over us this year.

If I could have anything from next draft, it would be that prototypical run stuffing and pass rushing nose tackle. He doesn't have to be 350 pounds. But a big dude that can take up two blockers and clog the lane, and be able to push the pocket in the middle forcing the QB to step to the side.

Demeco, Cushing, Sharpton, Adibi seem to be solid ILBs. I love Demeco and Cushing if they were fully healthy but I'm worried about this season there. A studly Patrick Willis clone would be my second option.

Third, I love our offense, I like our WR depth.... but I really do like Jeff Fuller a lot. He'd be sweet in a Texans uni.

I'll be watching the NTs in college ball this year tough! I hope the 2012 draft shapes up like the 2011 draft. Our needs and the best players available matched up perfectly.

Well there is only one big NT and we will probably have to use our 2 to get him, although I have him in 3rd on my mock for now. I'd be interested in looking into a trade for Ron Brace.

Fuller is my first rounder. If he has a good senior year, he will not be there when Texans draft.

You and I are in agreement, we both want the big, strong, mean Samoan on our team and will most likely have to use our 2nd round pick to get him. There are other NT's to choose from but picking will be slim next year and Ta'amu is the best available. Ron Brace would be an interesting trade, I liked him coming out of college. Who drafted him and what round, also what do you think it would take in a trade to get him? We disagree about that 1st round pick though, I want to use it on defense. I'm looking at ILB in the 1st because both Cushing and Ryans both have big question marks on them. I think Cushing, coming off the juice, might be looked upon as a wasted pick in a few years. I hope I'm wrong but I get a bad feeling about him with the injuries. We could use some upgrades in the secondary as well but I don't think there's a FS worthy of a 1st round pick, but there are several good CB's to be had in the 1st.

oh yeah well here is my 2013 mock draft.

If Vontaze Burfict ILB or Jayron Hosely CB were to drop to where I think we will pick, I'd consider either but I just don't see that.

Still hoping we trade for Asante Samuel.

Ron Brace will cost more than he is worth but as he would lock down the Nose for years. I would give 2nd & 4th or 2nd this draft and next for Samuel; I'd probably do the same. Brace is not the player imo Samuel is but there are just not many big NT & Samuel would be our #2 CB. I am probably off and offering too much but I want Brace.

I would offer MW for Samuel and the Cards 2012 2nd.

Then I would trade the Texans 2012 2nd and 4th for Brace.

This way the Texans have 3 picks in the 1st 3 rds. Including an upgrade with the Cardinals pick. In addition to adding Samuel and Brace. All that would be lost would be MW and a 4th.

This way Rick and Gary would get to keep their jobs, the defense would be much improved. BoBBy would also not have to worry about resigning MW. It's a win-win.

Philly would be a true dream team if they added MW to their defense and they have the cap space by trading Samuel.

I like Ron Brace but we could just as easily use our 2nd on Alameda Ta'amu and save the extra pick. I'm not real high on Asante Samuel, he'd be nice to have but expensive. I really hope the Texans can find a way to come up with an extra 2nd round pick like we did this year because I also want Donta Hightower-ILB in the 2nd. I've been giving it some thought and though Burfict is a great player, I just can't see using a 1st on a 3-4 ILB, it seems like we could use the picks more efficiently. Let's go CB in the 1st and go after Cliff Harris-CB, 2012 should be a great year for picking an early CB, there seem to be lots of good ones. KJ may wind up being a bust, time will tell, and we can't rely on Jason Allen as a quality starter for years to come. I have high hope for Brandon Harris but an extra quality CB is always a good thing.

I can see the Texans franchising Mario and then trying to trade him. Who are some realistic teams you think will be interested in a 4-3 DE and what do you think would be a realistic trade value? If we could get a 1st and 2nd from a bad team like Denver I'd be thrilled.

I would do this deal. I really think Reed is gonna be awesome @OLB and Barwin should hold down the other side. This allow us to get a starter #2 CB and lock our DBs in for years. I am not anti-Mario but using him to strengthen team and also adjust cap for next year. We might get more later in the season for WIlliams if he is as good as I think he will be but I think adding Samuel is the best for this season and future.

If I had Brace, I'd prob still draft Ta'amu. If we had Joseph and Samuel, we could have top 4 to 5 strarting corners. Would not have to draft CB high. Picking at #25.

1. WR Jeff Fuller A&M 6'4" 215 4.42

2. From Cardinals thru Philly NT Alemeda Ta'Amu 6' 3" 330 lbs plays behind Brace for a season or two
