My mock on another board

Practice Squad
I represented the Jaguars and Texans in a 7-round draft (w/trades and all comp picks). Just about near the end of round 6 now. Tell me what you think of my Texans draft. I mostly adhere to a BPA philosophy with need as a secondary factor in the 1st 3 rounds, but will lean more towards need in the mid/late rounds;

Houston Texans:

round 1 (pick 22): Reggie Ragland, ILB, Alabama

round 2 (pick 52): Shon Coleman, OT Auburn

round 3 (pick 85): Darian Thompson, S, Boise State

round 4 (pick 119): Charone Peake, WR, Clemson

round 5 (pick 159): James Bradberry, CB, Samford

round 5 (pick 166): D.J. Reader, DT, Clemson (via NE)

round 6 (pick 195): Daniel Lasco, RB, California (via NYJ)

Houston has no 7th round pick

I like Peake a lot. He played with Hopkins at Clemson, home of great WRs. I also really like Reader at DT next to Watt. I thought a great pick in late round 5. Ragland and Coleman (cancer survivor) fill immediate needs I think.

Jacksonville Jaguars:

round 1 (pick 5): Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame

round 2 (pick 38): Kenny Clark, DT, UCLA

round 3 (pick 69): Joshua Perry, OLB, Ohio State

round 4 (pick 103) Landon Turner, OG, North Carolina

round 5 (pick 146): Jonathan Jones, CB, Auburn

round 6 (pick 181): Joe Schobert, OLB, Wisconsin

round 6 (pick 201): Nate Sudfield, QB, Indiana (via Pitt)

round 7 (pick 226): TBA

1 more pick to go, but I hope Jax fans like the Stanley pick. He will be much better than Joeckel. And Beachum is just a stop-gap and has what is essentially a one year cheap deal with a team option for more years at bigger dollars. Stanley is a stud that will put the Jacksonville LT nightmare to rest for many years. After that my focus was on defense, but I tend to lean toward BPA as well. Kenny Clark should do great as an interior lineman between Malik and Fowler. If Fowler lives up to his rep, the Jax DL can be among the better ones in the league. Jax's OLBs blow goats so I picked up a couple of promising prospects, but I really like Josh Perry. Turner fills a need at G and I felt he was BPA when I chose him.

So Houston and Jax fans.... whadda ya think?

just my two cents:

1. No way Texans take Ragland he is a lot like Max Bullough. Interesting to me that same guys ranking Ragland top half of round one, said in early off season he was not very good. This is weak position for this draft. Houston is fine with what we have. Much better players at higher need positions.

3. Not a Thompson fan but he will go second round IMO. We don't need a safety this high.

I like both Peake and Reader at your picks.

Appreciate the effort you put in, hope you stick around and participate in the mock draft forum. Several of us put lots of time into evaluating college players all season to be ready for THREE DAYS IN APRIL!

I have to agree with BB, no need for Ragland, we've already got starters and decent depth. Coleman scares me because of his health issues, cancer, we don't need to go down that road again. I like Thompson, but there are more important needs in the 3rd. Also really like Peake and Reader, no problem with either pick. The other guys I'm not really familiar with.

I happen to like Ragland & think it would be hard to pass on him at 22. That said, I'd be upset with two defensive players with our first three picks.

Playmakers... we need more on both sides of the ball, I'm not thrilled with what we currently have at safety, so I could very well see the Texans doing something similar to this & learning to live with it.

I'm trying (no answer) to figure out why I should give a f'k.

There's a Texans' mock here as well as a Jaguars' mock.

Regarding the mock, 1st round ILB would make more sense if the player were more coverage oriented than Ragland. Ragland is more similar to the two ILBs we already have starting.

Don't know a lot about Coleman but the position is a need so that's good.

I disagree with others who've already commented and not valued the safety position. Safety is a need in which we would go as high as round 1 if there was talent there, so if you like Thompson as a 3rd rounder, that's a good pick.

Late round picks fill some needs with players I like, so overall I like the draft.

Wow... I hit it on Reader in round 5. Nice fit for Houston. He will occupy 2 Olinemen while Watt mows down the QB or RB.
