My latest Mock.....Opinions?

Wolf6151

All Pro
1. Prince Amukamara-CB, an obvious elite level prospect that fills our biggest need and allows us to move Quin to FS. I'd also look for a FA at CB but Amukamara gives us insurance at the position in case there is no FA or we just don't get anyone.

2. Quinton Carter-FS/SS, I like Rahim Moore but feel there's a good chance he's gone by now. Carter has FS skills with SS attitude and I think Phillips will be looking for Safeties with cover skills, not an in the box quasi LB like Pollard.

3. Jarvis Jenkins-DT/DE, great size and athleticism with good foot work as well. A backup DE in the 3-4, as well as insurance if we lose Mario to FA next year, and DT when we run 4-3 fronts on obvious passing downs. He lacks some strength but that will come from an NFL level weight lifting program and has the potential to be great.

4. Jerrell Powe-NT, a traditional 3-4 NT that gives us the size and strength we need up front. He's not going to collapse the pocket but he will command 2 blockers every down freeing up the LB's to make plays, stuff the run up the middle, and occasionally move the pocket or pressure the QB. Needs to work on his footwork to be great at the next level.

5. Mike Mohamed-ILB, he's listed as an ILB but has the size and decent speed to play either inside or outside. He also has experience playing the 3-4 at Cal. He should add some quality depth anywhere in the LB corp.

6. Steven Friday-OLB/DE, a pure pass rusher with good size and decent speed, should be good on special teams and can learn some coverage skills. He's the player we hoped Adibi would be by now. He's got some character issues but in the 6th he's a low risk/high reward player.

7. Chris Prosinski-FS, depth in the secondary where we need it most, great speed, and should be very good on special teams with his speed and toughness.

7. Trevor Hankins-P, it was going to be Derek Epperson but I think he'll be gone by now. I like a big Punter that can beat up the other teams LB.

I really would have liked to add an OT/OG prospect in case we lose Butler but our defense needs all the picks it can get. We need starters as well as depth.

Very nice draft. I don't think I would've used a draft pick on a punter though. I would've looked for some O'line depth.

Love this mock Wolf.

I would take Aaron Williams as a S in the 1st and Davon House in the 2nd.

But I like the way you attempted to fix the Texans secondary problems. For the 1st time since their inception.

The Jenkins and Powe picks are very good picks if they are still on the board. They probably will be.

This mock doesn't adress all of the defenses needs. But you cant fix a defense as bad as the Texans defense in one yr. Atleast this draft addresses needs with very talented players without reaching to fill even more needs with less talented players.

If the Texans cannot trade down then this is a serious possibility. I can't explain why I have such a hard time digesting Prince Amukamara? He just doesn't have the knee bend of a corner I would like. His hips show tightness in his turns, he plays high like a safety. Now I have thought of this maybe the Texans think of him as a FS & leave Glover Quinn along with Kareem our corners?

either way takes away the need to draft a FS in the second.

I'm not all up on Jenkins so I will have to defer. What is important is that Wade does not stand pat with Mitchell & Cody.

Powe could turn out OK but I can't sign off on the guy he looks lazy on film at times, plus it bothers me he doesn't fully spell his name out Powell.

See we agree on Mohamed. You think he's gone by the time Texans select in the 6th?

Firday is your Miller, both high motor guys can't go wrong either way.

Another FS Chris Prosinski? seems a bit overkill with Quinn & Carter.

I'm fine with drafting a punter its not wasted is it really if its a roster spot?

You're going to get some Prince hate. He would be the least popular pick there could be after Jackson's perceived failure last year.

SteelB, you really like Aaron Williams and Davon House better than Prince Amukamara and Quinton Carter? I like trying to fix the secondary since it's never been seriously addressed by the Texans since inception, same with the O-line. I agree that the mock doesn't fully fix the defense but it gets us pointed in the right direction. I think that Mark Anderson can hold down WOLB for a year and then we can address that in the 1st round of next years draft along with better quality depth at all defensive positions.

BL, I hear what your saying about Prince but I think he makes up for his tight hips with very quick reactionary time and closing speed. He's not perfect but I could say the same things about Peterson as well. Jenkins has athleticism and good/great foot work, what he lacks is strength and I think that will come with time in the weight room. I think Jenkins has the size, athleticism, and potential to be very good on the D-line in a couple years with some added strength and good coaching. I see Cody as backup quality NT and Mitchell doesn't fit the 3-4 at 291 lbs. except maybe at backup DE and we've already got lots of those. Powe is directly the opposite of Jenkins, great strength and size but he lacks athleticism and foot work. Of course I'm not looking for a NT with great footwork and athleticism. I want him to clog the middle, take up blockers, stuff the run, and occaisionally move the pocket or pressure the QB. I like Mohamed as well and though he can play inside or outside, I see him as more of a backup on the inside with some added bulk. I think that there's a good chance that Diles and Sharpton are gone, Diles sucks and Sharpton doesn't fit the 3-4 system at all. I like Mohamed in the 5th because of his 3-4 experience but honestly players in the bottom half of the draft could go anywhere from the 4th to the 7th. Late round picks are almost impossible to predict accurately. I like Friday as a pure athletic pass rusher with size and speed as a backup to Anderson and he and Mohamed should be very good special teams players. I like Prosinski's speed and as a Safety he should also be a good special teamer and Domonique Barber sucks. The added Safety is depth at our weakest position on the field and maybe we get lucky with a diamond in the rough.

Kiwi, I don't think we can blame Prince for Jacksons failure last year. I blame Kubiak for that. Lets remember that Aso and Revis weren't great their first couple years either. Neither became good/great until their 3rd year in the league and I still think Jackson can be very good. To me CB is the 2nd hardest position to transition from college to the NFL, QB is 1st, and it takes a few years. I have no problem being patient with Jackson and this year he'll have new coaching and a little experience. Jackson also got no Safety help last year. It was a baptism by fire and he got burned. Again I blame Kubiak for that, Jackson should have never been put in that position.

I live in Nebraska, I love Prince and think he will start in the league for a long time. Others don't share my big red coloured glasses.

I think safety is a much bigger need than CB, that is the only reason I wouldn't take Prince at 11.

Hey Kiwi, you live in Nebraska, follow the Texans, and have a Miami Dolphins avatar is there some kind of bi-polar schizophrenia going on here? :jk:

Hey BL, I was also looking at Ugo Chinasa-OLB in the 5th. It's a toss up between he and Mohamed.

True, now that the mock has finished I can de-dolphin.

As for living in Nebraska, trust me it is not by choice. I would much rather be back in NZ cheering the Texans on from very afar.

This has about as much chance of happening as hell freezing over - No TE's and where's the Colorado St connection ?!

I could live with this draft .... maybe.

LOL, if Kubiak takes a TE or CSU player in the draft this year then he should be fired on the spot.:cutthroat:
