My latest 2012 mock.

Wolf6151

All Pro
1. Alameda Ta'amu-NT Washington, we have 2 major holes I see right now NT and CB but with only one 1st round pick we can only fill one hole and you build a team in the trenches. Someone else made a good point as well KJ is looking better than last year, and we still don't know what we have with Harris or Carmichael. Also if all else fails we can move Quin back to CB and start Nolan at SS. Ta'amu fills the middle of the D-line with size, power, and attitude that we need. I know BB and Rmartin are leery of Ta'amu right now but I think this guy moves up draft boards big time after the season and is worth the late 1st round pick.

2. Dwight Jones-WR UNC, yall talked me into it and I read somewhere else that KW's guaranteed money from his recent contract has been paid already so he's eligible for a pay cut if he doesn't perform. Jones is 6'04, good speed, and very athletic. As much as I'd like a CB here, a 2nd round CB isn't going to give us anything we don't already have in Harris and Carmichael.

3. Brandon Washington-OG/OT, Miami is playing him at RT for now but he's a stud OG in the NFL or a serviceable RT thus adding some versatility and depth to our O-line. It may take some luck to get him in the late 3rd round.

4. Kevin Reddick-ILB UNC, he's got good size and decent speed. IMO Sharpton is to small to play ILB in a 3-4 system and with Demeco's injury and lack of production we need someone who can step in and fill this hole. Tanner Brock-ILB is another option here but he's had some foot injury issues.

5. Rashard Hall-FS Clemson, he's falling on depth charts but I think he adds some depth at FS behind Manning and with Nolan backing up Quin he makes Barber expendable.

6. Travian Robertson-DE/DT S. Carolina, added depth at DE with good size and average speed. He makes Bulman expendable.

7. ??????? Maybe a late RB for competition, insurance, and to make Ward expendable.

I'm ok with your picks except don't know your 6 & 7 but those are just picks at that spot. Alemeda may get it together but riddle me this, if you can fill the NT in 3rd with a slightly lesser player and use the 1st on another position.... We can get a WR and NT starter in 2nd & 3rd what could we use that first on? Could we get a RG to replace Briesel? Will there be a ILB to beat out a recovering Ryan or at least be a great back up? Not too sure if late in round as I predict Texans picking.

Do you have to get a starter in first round? I say yes. If I knew I could get a starting CB2 I do it but this is not as strong a draft as many think but I said that last year at about this point in season so who knows. At least the murky water may clear in the next few weeks.

We share the same first pick after that my players are significantly better which makes me think yours is more realistic & mine is just wishfull thinking

Scout's Inc already has AT 9th in their rankings. And like you said, he'll improve his stock as the year goes on. I think he can go anywhere from 5-20. I don't think he'll be there if we end up with a late 1st.

As for the Jones pick, it'll be cool that he has that familiarity with Yates.

BB, I get your point but do you really think Poe would be a starter if taken in the 3rd round? When was the last time we got a starter in the 3rd round? I trust you when you say Poe is athletic, I haven't seen him, but his height concerns me. The good NFL NT's are 6'03" and under. Poe is 6'05" thus making him tall for the position where leverage is important. I've said this many times in the past, tall DT's have a tough time getting their pad height down and O-linemen and able to stand them up and move them around. I wouldn't be opposed to taking someone like Stephon Gilmore-CB in the 1st round but I'd have to be absolutely certain that Poe could get the NT job done if taken in the 3rd round and right now I just don't know enough about him. I think Ta'amu is the big, thick, strong, angry Somoan to anchor our D-line for a long time to come. I think my draft gives us 3 starters as Jones should make KW expendable and Washington should be a stud OG in the NFL but we might have to get lucky that he lasts to the late 3rd round. I'd like a good ILB to replace Demeco but I doubt the Texans ever admit that Demeco needs replacement. I think even if he plays subpar they'll keep him around since he just got a new contract and is the face of the defense. I agree a 1st round pick should be a starter with the exception of QB and CB which are very difficult to transition to from college, also depending on a teams current talent level. In years past we had to start lower draft picks because our talent level sucked, not so much anymore.

BL, that was funny.....LOL Thanks.

Like BB said on his mock this assessment of needs and players will change numerous times before April. I'm torn between completing the 3-4 transition and filling the defensive holes and depth issues all in one draft with an exclusively defensive draft, or filling the couple holes on offense that exist while trying to fill defensive holes and depth at the same time. Also I don't think there will be any money available for new FA's next year with Mario and Foster both being FA's.

What are your thoughts on Janoris Jenkins. I know the guy has character issues which is something BoB will stay away from, but I see this guy as a top 15-20 talent. If we pick around 25ish like we are assuming, would you want this guy? This is all assuming that KJ can not and will not get any better

I like it. These early mocks are fun, as they are all showing the same positions (more or less), but with different players. Good stuff.

1) Its not that I dont want to like Ta'amu. He could be the big, athletic nose that we need. The tape I watched last year showed Ta'amu to posses true NFL talent. However, this year I have not been impressed. I dont know if it was Nebraska's scheme, or Ta'amu was sick, but he barely looked draftable in that game.

2) A WR is a need, and Jones has a lot of talent. I sometimes worry about his consistency.

3) I dont know a lot about Washington, but I like the position. I will keep an eye on him through the season.

4) Again, I like the position, but I dont really know the player. I have watched some UNC, and he has never stood out to me.

5) FS... interesting. Depth is important, and behind Manning we really dont have a possible starter.

Round 6- I dont really know a lot about the guy, which is strange since I have watched S. Carolina a couple times this year. There are just so many other explosive players on that D, I wonder if Robertson is just a beneficiary of them.

Using your own statistics, Ta'Amu will fail as he is 6'3". I don't think height will be a disadvantage to either player. Both are grounded players that are hard to move from their anchor and Wade teaches dline to put up hands to deflect. Both should excell. I am not against Ta'Amu just want to see more of him. I see Poe as being a starter immediately. I do not use historical draft comparisons much. Like BL, I want to solidify the trenches and my guys both O & D will do that.

Thanks for your response.

His coach at N Alabama was told he deserved another chance, it will be his 3rd as busted for MJ 3 months prior and involved in a scuffle in 2009 with deferred adjudication & 6 months parole. Is he flaunting authority or just doesn't think rules apply to him. I don't know. He could pull a R. Williams.

And here is this the attitude to present?

I am not sure about him to be honest, but compare his stats to Xavier Rhodes at another Florida school. Walter has him right below Jenkins. If I'm a GM I would probably look elsewhere. I have him mid 2nd round. In my opinion too much topsy turvy with CBs that might clarify as season progresses. This is why I moved Quin back to CB2 and drafted Lester for safety. Safety way to go as of today.

recently found out that Alemada Ta'Amu had a hand injury.

Rd.1 Ta'amu- Haven't seen him play this yr. Pundits seem to say he's having a down yr. But he impressed me last yr.
Rd.2 Jones- Like him alot, big physical WR with good hands, could be better than Floyd, great compliment to AJ.
Rd.3 Washington- Although I would go in a different direction, Washington is really talented and only will fall this far due to a previous knee injury, Great Pick
Rd.4 Reddick, not familiar with Reddick, but NC has a history of producing LB's.
I would have chosen Keenan Robinson or taken a flier on a 5 tech.
Rd.5 Hall- Good player, nice pick, hope he's there
Rd.6 Robertson- Good pick for this late in the draft, definitely an upgrade over Bulman.
RD.7 Demps/Rainey from Fla would be what I would look for this late in the draft. They are what Holliday was supposed to be.

Overall I would jump for joy if your mock came to fruition. 3 players that could provide immediate impact is a great draft.
