My Godfather Trade Down Deal!

Daonly

Waterboy
Im Pro Bush to let you know; but there's always a price, and here's my all of all Godfather deals that would make me say I love you bush but I love this deal more.

Oakland Trades #6 overall,This years 2nd round pick, and next years 1st and Robert Gallery to the Texans fot the #1 overall pick.

That's the only way you can give up Reggie Bush.; and I'm the biggest Reggie Bush Supporter living in Los Angeles and Catching a few games in person;but this is the type of deal the Texans will make, nothing less. :homer:

Who's holding the light saber on Al Davis for Darth to sign off on that deal?

I dont know, but it would be pretty big time. We get a LT/RT better than most of the OTs in the draft and we still get the number 6 pick so we could still conceivably get Mario Williams. Hell Gallery, Williams, Mangold, Joseph/Minter, Stovall, T.J. Williams and then our second day should be just icing on that cake.

Why would they want to get rid of Gallery. We've seen post on here that have stated over and over about how hard it is to get a quality tackle in this league. Heck, our team is a result of not having a quality tackle. Why would they want to get rid of a guy like Robert Gallery?

The Raiders wouldn't make that trade offer, it would be interesting if they did though.

I'd love to have that deal but quite frankly Bush = Gallery doesn't work for me.

I'd take Gallery 9 out of 10 times over Bush.

You've got a good imagination Daonly, and that would be "one" godfather deal to my way of thinking, and I to am a Reggie fan. That would be too sweet to pass on IMO.

Ok to make it fair.. i'll take their 1st this year, 3rd this year, Robert Gallery, and next years 1st; and that'll be right at the Brink of being a Godfather deal in my book... :homer:

The godfather of all trades would be: vilma,#4,#36 for #1-then we'd be in the envious position of choosing dbrick, mario, or hawk

Not bad, but I would still want another pick out of it, like a future 2nd or 3rd, and I think Vilma is the one guy on that team they won't give up. John Abraham would be a more likely trade option.

I like trading down with Jets (am all for Bush unless) for Maewae,#4,#36,take D'Brick@ 4,Trade Babin,#36,#66 to GB for #5 and take Mario.

I think the reason I find this "mock trade" so tantalizing is that if we could
get another young OT like Gallery to go along with Chester, we'd have our young "book end" tackles to anchor our OL for many years. And by picking #6in the Raiders slot, we'd probably miss "Super Mario" since he's gonna most likely be a top 5. But the upshot of this is we could actually end up with a RB
with our top pick: not Bush of course at #6 but I think we might take DeAngelo Williams, the Memphis RB if we don't need a OT and the stud DE is off the Board. Sooner or later we should really upgrade Davis, and Williams has
the kind of breakaway speed that Bush has.

That would be a great trade, as it would lock up the OT spots for a while. At #6 we could snag Vernon Davis and seal up TE, too.

I dunno....unless V. Davis is something really special like former Miami U. TE
Kellen, #6 is an awfully high pick to use on a TE, especially in this years Draft which is strong at that position. I like Pope, the Georgia TE, and the USC guy Dominuque Byrd. We might catch a break and find one of those 2 guys on the Board with our #2.

Maybe, but a lot of guys have him going right afterward to SF or even Buffalo. He's a physical freak, one that is uncommon from year to year. FA will tell us a lot.

There are realistic godfather deals and then there unrealistic Godfather deals.

To me, a 'realistic' one, would be along the lines of the Manning/Rivers trade a couple of years ago.

We give NY the 1st pick overall, we get the 4th pick overall, (D'Brick) their 3rd round this year, and their 1st pick next.

That would work for me. Would that be "Godfather" enough for you?

But it's fantasy anyway. NY has no reason in the world to trade up.

Neither the Jets or the Raiders are in a position to trade up, they both are in CAP HELL being $29-30 million over the cap respectively, both are probably gonna have to release players just to lower their cap #'s, neither will sign any big name free agents because they have no money to do so, both teams were very bad and have lots of holes to fill, the NFL Draft is the cheapest and easiest way to fill their holes, which means neither will be looking to trade up but rather trading down is more likely the oppourtunity.

If you think I'm lying about their CAP #'s:

http://www.askthecommish.com/salarycap/numbers.asp

I highly doubt Tenn, NY Jets, nor Oakland will be looking to trade up. Too many holes to fill, can't be players in free agency, can only use the draft to add players to their rosters, which means they need all their picks and more if it can be acquired.

Well like some teams that have had cap problems they may look to trade up. Oakland is always pretty active on draft day, and Tannenbaum is much less conservative than Bradway. They both could be looking to lock down that big name player to help the pretty good core nucleus. Remember the Jets are one year removed from the divisonal playoffs. Yes, they will lose some players, mainly Ty Law, Kevin Mawae, Curtis Martin, a host of high salary older guys. They can easily make due with low cap-friendly free agents and mid round guys. Look for them to make some trades in the third and 4th rounds with teams like the Patriots who have more than one pick.

These low cap-friendly free agents you speak of have very little upside compared to a rookie. Most of these low cap-friendly free agents are a bunch of old scrubby, journeymen free agents that bounce around team to team. I'd rather build my team for the future with rookies than pick up a bunch of scrubby journeymen free agents. It sure would cost a hell of alot cheaper too.

well low cap-friendly guys like kyle vanden bosch and the like will always make teams and help when given the opportunity to play. I definately understand were you are coming from, but I doubt they really get rid of most of their core guys. Curtis Martin and Kevin Mawae two guys I mentioned previously will likely be restructured so they can retire Jets and other guys will just likely be let go.

You got a point there, but the chances of teams getting play like this from these low cap-friendly guys are very slim. It's almost like these team just luck up when they start to play these guys. And I know when these teams bring these guys in, their expectations of these guys going into the season are not very high, and they most likely think of players more as depth to the positions instead of starters.

With most of the guys you are right they are looked at as depth, but every team takes two or three low cap hit guys that they think can maybe play past their career numbers. Guys that usually have not played well at other places, but show up in a new system under new coaching. It happens every year and with almost every team they find someone in FA that is cheap and plays well. this year Vanden Bosch and Chris Hovan really come to mind.

then lets give them #33,#65,#66- for #4- that would be sweet but id like to take a TE,WR and C with those picks so i dont know-would ye take that trade(even if we also had to give something like next years 2nd/3rd)

True, but most of the time these guys are not signed to long term contracts, but mainly one year deals. So these teams are really not fixing these problems for the long run, but mainly as depth to the position for a season. So now when that player outperforms their 1 year contract, they then become unrestricted free agents and could command more money from that team he just played for.

But then that team can no longer afford the player's services because the team is in cap hell and was just using that player as a body for a position for that one season. IMO, this is why I see the draft as the way to go for these teams with all these cap problems.

Not a good idea man.
