Why would the texans draft Ryan Mallett? We would be using our first round pick on an unproven QB when we arlready have a decent QB.

Easy bro. Just stating he's on my wish list. QBs have been known to fall in the draft. I know Matt is decent but I'd like to have a young QB ready to groom because honestly if Matt doesn't get it done next season we really gotta start looking for a guy that's ready to win.

But you draft a guy to groom in the late rounds not the first. Mallet is a sure first rounder. With all the team needs right now, that would be a wasted pick. And Matt can't get it done with one of the worst defenses in the history of the NFL. Not even Manning or Brady can. If the defense don't improve next year, expect another 6-10 season.

Don't get me wrong, if my GM thinks a guy like Locker or Mallett is the real deal, I don't have a problem with them drafting either one of them. But they better trade Matt for a first rounder or at least a second. Basically, the team would be targeting to be good in a couple seasons not this one coming up.

Hell no on Pryor. But he is staying in school next year. No to Mallett, no to Tucker, yes to Peterson, Chas Henry and Blackmon.

the 3 qb's you listed will be awful in the nfl.

Not all the time.

Chris Chandler who after he left The Oilers went on to play the Broncos in The Super Bowl.

Stan Humphries also went to a super bowl. Doesn't make him a very good QB. Also, That was the only year that Chandler passed over 3,000 yrds in a year. Matt has done it 3 years in a row. And Chandler never played all sixteen games in a year. Not once.

I have AJ Green, Blackmon and Julio Jones on my wish list.

For some reason I can't help but think, how about we draft offense this year because no matter what our D will be jacked up going through a transition year, so lets just try to blow teams off the score board each week. It got us 6 wins this year......

That's who I forgot to add, Julio Jones. Addition being made now.

Julio Jones WR Alabama
Casey Matthews LB Oregon - with the switch to the 3-4 defense this would be a good pick up.

I agree with this. Plus we just have to much inconsistency with Walter and Jones.

Does anyone have an idea what kind of draft prospect Casey Matthews is. Like where is he projected to go?

Little Matthews is indeed smaller and not as talented. He's stepped his game up this past year though. He's now an NFL player. I think he's a more traditional LB though and not quite the hybrid that Clay III is. I'm guessing he's about a 4th-5th round pick right now, with one final game and workouts still left. Bloodlines will also count for something.

I think he's similar to former USC linebackers Kaluka Maiava or Lofa Tatupu. He's not the biggest or fastest, but he's just a football player. He's in the right spot and makes plays. I think he's a guy that will be above average for most of his career and has the possibility to have a few very good seasons, but for the most part will be a very solid starter on a good defense.

He needs to be on this team. If for anything, depth.

He's projected as a 4th or 5th rounder at this point in time but that could change after the Combine. He's listed as an ILB (6'1" 238 lbs). We'll probably need more help at ILB, depending where they put Cushing, Sharpton, etc.., and I think he would be a good pick in the middle rounds.

Is a 4th too much to spend on him? We spent a 4th on Sharpton last year, and if the Texans had not picked a LB in the draft prior to their 4th round pick they should be looking to get one. This would probably mean Cushing/Barwin and/or Williams and Diles would be the OLBs with Sharpton/Ryans/Matthews at ILB.

In regards to Texan needs/picks if it's a mid rd. grade prospect, ask yourself a simple question, can he make (Texans) 53 man roster?

Casey is relentless, he sheds blockers making plays in space & he has that instinctive Matthews nose for the ball, genetics I think? That said, you can discount his measureables to some point (undersized, not super quick) & validate a 4th grade.

Oregon DE Kenny Rowe is the player who really impressed me, I think he would make a very good mid rd. OLB prospect. If given the choice between the two I would select Rowe over Matthews in the 4th rd. Would be really nice to keep them together if Casey hangs around til the 5th but I doubt he lasts?

At this point in time I don't think a 4th would be too much to spend on him, but there are still a lot of unanswered questions.

1) Where will Wade place the LB's we have already?

2) Will they go after any ILB's/OLB's in FA?

3) Will Wade move any DE's to OLB's?

4) Will Matthews value climb/drop after the Combine?

5) Will Ryans, Sharpton, Barwin, etc.. be what they were before their injuries?

We can probably guess the answers to some of these questions but there is really no way of knowing for sure what will happen. Heck Matthews could have a really bad Combine and drop to the 6th or 7th. Would you want him then? Should be another interesting offseason.

I'll be the first one to side with you on the QB debate. If a second rounder could be used to get a QB like Pryor or maybe Ponder from FSU I think it would be a big upgrade over what we have for backups now and would create an expendable QB 2 or 3 years down the road. However, with this being Kubiak's final shot here in Houston I doubt he makes a luxury pick like this.

Glad to see I'm not the only guy that sees it that way. Didn't think about Kubiak not making that kind of selection due to his final shot chance.

I think that Kubiak feels he has better job security than what we do.

I would like to think they would draft for the future no matter what, well they would if they had a strong GM in place.

what do you guys think about Torrey Smith from Maryland as our number two WR.

His projected to go in the middle of the 2nd round.
I think he would be the best WR option for us and he would complement AJ so well.

His 6.1 and 200 bs and his QUICK. i have read around the net his project 40 will be somewhere around the 4.40

His a return specialist which will solve our problem their as well.

Could you imagine the power and brilliance of AJ and the speed and playmaking ability of Smith of the other side. I personally think it will be devastating.

Check out his awards that his won as a return man. But his a quality WR as well. This season he had over 1000 receiving yards and 12 TDs

I have R1 von miller
R2 smith
R3 quinton carter

because in FA im hoping for a CB and NT.

Trust me guys have a look at him on the net...EXPLOSIVE!!!

I see Andy Dalton is getting a looksie from the Colts.

Aussie, great look on Tory Smith. You called that one way before all the ESPN gurus did.

Anthony Leon is a guy whose name has fallen off the map. Anyone got any reason why. This would be an awesome mid round selection for us. This dude can play.

I'm pretty high on Dalton, he would look good learning the ropes from Manning. Ideal situation.

As for Leon, my google-fu doesn't turn much up on him relating to the draft at all.

I have to disagree .... I think Dalton could turn out to be a good QB and stay in the league many years.

Thats not saying I want the Texans to draft the guy .... unless he falls off the face of the draft earth to say round 5. Too many other needs to take a QB any higher.

Sounds like he was expected at his schools pro-day but that is about all I have been able to scrape up.

LINK

So based on the link, he is in the draft. I wonder how his pro day went. This guy could really be a bargain draft pick.

Also seems as if Justin Blackmon has fallen off the face of the draft?

Isn't Blackmon going back to school?

Anthony Leon OLB Arkansas
Patrick Peterson CB LSU
Prince Amukamara CB Nebraska

Andy Dalton QB TCU
Chas Henry P Florida
Alex Henry PK Nebraska
Tucker PK Texas
Justin Blackmon WR OK St. Not entering draft

Still thinking about DTs, S, FS and MLB.

Due to players electing to not go into the draft, I'm revising my list. Also I removed some players because the likelihood of us drafting them is not high. I added some after further knowledge of players.

So my new list is:

Von Miller LB TxA&M
Patrick Peterson CB LSU
Prince Amukamara CB Nebraska
Brandon Harrison CB Miami
Andy Dalton QB TCU
Chas Henry P Florida (might be good to use that Mr Irrelevant pick)
Alex Henry PK Nebraska (might be good to use that Mr. Irrelevant pick)
Tucker PK Texas (might be good to use that Mr. Irrelevant pick)
Justin Houston LB Geogia
Robert Quinn DE North Carolina
Casey Matthews OLB Oregon
Aaron Williams CB Texas
Rahim Moore S UCLA
Chykie Brown CB Texas
Aldon Smith DE Missouri

I'd like to add this guy to my list:

NFL | Teryl White works out at Pro Day
Wed, 30 Mar 2011 18:54:40 -0700

North Carolina Central DT Teryl White posted a solid workout at his school's Pro Day Wednesday, March 30, and measured in at 6-foot-4 1/4, 303 pounds, according to NFLDraftBible.com's Bo Marchionte. White ran the 40-yard dash in 4.92 and 4.96 seconds and posted a 29 1/2-inch vertical, a 9-foot broad jump and 23 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

Would be a good late rounder. Don't know much about him but a DT that weighs 303 and can post a 4.92 40 has to be some kind of athlete.

Plus he looks like he hates losing. Gotta get a guy like that right?

Anthony Leon is a guy whose name has fallen off the map. Anyone got any reason why. This would be an awesome mid round selection for us. This dude can play.

Actually, according to what I can find, we can probably pick him up as an UDFA. The guy is ranked 440 and the 34th OLB by CBS. Walter doesn't even show him (and only ranks 19 OLBs). Another ranking system has him as the 24th OLB.

If he's as good as you say, we can use the Mr. Irrelevant pick on him.

Alex Henery is a 4th/5th round pick.

I suspect that Florida punter will be drafted earlier too.

Ok. Well, I'm willing to go there with either one of those guys too. Yes I like that kicker that much over Rackers.

Any idea if Tucker from Texas is projected to go late?

That might be good. Dude can play man. Not basing on one game but look at how he played in that bowl game last year. He's everywhere.

Round 1

Parick Peterson CB LSU
Von Miller OLB Texas A&M
Aldon Smith DE/OLB Missouri
Prince Amukamara CB Nebraska
Julio Jones WR Alabama
Robert Quinn OLB/DE North Carolina

Round 2
Aaron Williams CB/S Texas
Phil Taylor DT Baylor
Rahim Moore S UCLA
Justin Houston OLB Georgia
Jimmy Smith CB Colorado
Brandon Harrison CB Miami
Will Hill S Florida

Davone House CB New Mexico St

Round 3
Curtis Brown CB Texas
Greg Little WR North Carolina
Casey Matthews ILB Oregon

Round 4
Quinton Carter S Oklahoma
Shiloh Keo SS Idaho
Jacquizz Rodgers RB Oregon State (I like his heart and we don't have a real change of pace RB)

Round 5

DJ Williams TE Arkansas (I know, I know. But at a 5th round pick, this dudes got value. On top of that TE is the position over the last 10 years of drafting where the player has made the team and produced a career longer than 5 years with the same team....and I don't like injury prone Hill)

Chris Culliver CB South Carolina
Tyrod Taylor QB Virginia Tech
Ahmad Black SS Florida
Dwayne Harris WR East Carolina
Chas Henry P Florida

Round 6
Greg McElroy QB Alabama
David Carter DE/DT UCLA
Alex Henry P/K Nebraska

Justin Tucker PK Texas
Ryan Taylor TE North Carolina
Anthony Elzy RB North Carolina
Dontavia Bogan WR South Florida
Teryl White North Carolina Central DT

I didn't put Watt or Reed on my list because I thought they'd be gone. Looks like I got Brandon Harrison in the right round.

Looks like I got these guys left for the 4th round:

Will Hill S Florida
Sam Acho DE/LB Texas
Davone House CB New Mexico St.
Casey Matthews ILB Oregon
Quinton Carter SS Oklahoma
