My Bye Week Mock.

Wolf6151

All Pro
This one was hard as I'm still having trouble deciding what position and player to go with in the 1st round. It seems priorities keep changing. I've got us picking around #22.

1. Brandon Thompson-DT, 6'02" and 310 lbs. from Clemson. He's strong, good footwork for a DT, very athletic for a man his size, quick, and I think he fits Wade's 1 gap system perfectly. He can take on the double team blocks and can also penetrate on the pass rush. He's not a 2 down DT that would need to be replaced on 3rd down. Many mocks have him going earlier than this but I've seen others that have him going late 1st round as well. I previously had Alameda Ta'amu-NT here but he looks stiff, non-athletic, and slow, great against the run but no threat to the pass (2 down NT). Ta'amu needs to learn to bend his knees more and get better leverage and lacks explosiveness/quickness. If you want a huge 2 gap'r to plug the middle pick Ta'amu. I also think adding Thompson makes the Texans able to move Earl Mitchell to DE depth where his size works better for that position, thus improving 2 positions.

2. Juron Criner-WR, 6'04 and 210 lbs. from Arizona. He's tall, good body control, average speed, very athletic, good/great hands, runs good routes, great on the jump balls and in the red zone, and uses his body well to shield CB's. Very good possession receiver and can stretch the field as well. I previously had Dwight Jones-WR here but he's moving up draft boards and I think he could go in the 1st round.

3. Brandon Washington-OG, 6'04 and 320 lbs. from Miami. He's played OG, RT, and LT this year and is obviously very versatile on the O-line while having great size and agility for a big man. He's got good hand placement/punch and mean attitude. He played OG last year and hasn't been able to showcase his natural OG position much this year. I've seen mocks with him in the 2nd round and others with him falling based on what position he plays. Serviceable/Good as an NFL RT, but a stud OG.

4. Kevin Reddick-ILB, 6'03" and 240 lbs. from UNC. He's got good size and speed for the position along with good lateral agility and footwork. He lacks production numbers but has high round talent to compete with on his own defense (Coples, and Brown). Currently plays 4-3 MLB but should be very good at 3-4 ILB and could start if Demeco falls off but needs to add a little weight and experience, both of which are easy to do.

5. Neiko Thorpe-FS, 6'03 and 191 lbs. from Auburn. He's tall with average speed. Thorpe played CB in 2010 so he's got cover skills and should make a good backup to Manning. I previously had Guy here but he's moving up and possibly not available in the 5th round. I also wanted someone with better cover skills.

6. Tony Jerod-Eddie-DE, 6'05 and 300 lbs. from TAMU. He's got good size for the position and should provide decent depth at the position and/or training camp competition.

7. Marc Tyler-RB, 5'11" and 230 lbs. from USC. Big bruiser RB that should be good in the short yardage or goal line game. We released Obgyn and I think we'll let Derrick Ward go at the end of this year to save some money and give him the chance to start elsewhere. So we'll need another RB to fill out the roster. I previously had an OLB here but I think we'll re-sign Mario, even though I'd love to have the draft picks we'd get from trading him.

Ok, tear it up. Opinions?

I like your picks. I had Washington rated 4th round. Do you think his problems with coach's comment about his play at LT will turn teams off?

I don't expect the coaches comments to make any difference at all, he's not an NFL LT and hopefully teams realize that. Anyone drafting him as a LT are in for a disappointment. I think he can be a decent RT if needed but his natural position is OG, he was playing LT only because of injury to the starter at LT.

Like your mock

Except Criner

Give me D.Jones, Sanu,Wright, or McNutt

The rest of the is good and very realistic.

I actually like every single pick. Great mock.

I love Thompson. I've been on to him for a long time now. He is my favorite DT in this draft and I think he would be a great Nose in our defense.

Criner is a great second round pick. I like Sanu a little bit more but I think he'll be gone.

Washington is a stud OG. I'm right with you on this one too.

I love Reddick but he's actually a junior and I'm not sure if he declares.

Thorpe is a solid pick too.

I'm not that high on Jerod-Eddie at the next level but it's the sixth round.

Tyler could be a big time sleeper in this draft. We can only hope it falls this way. Really good work.

I agree & wonder what is coach was thinking? Seemed to be deflecting blame onto a kid trying to do his best at a position that he is not best at. Coach should have been greatful.

Your first two will be gone by our 2nd pick and maybe Wright also.

If Wright or Jones aren't there I would go in another direction. Sanu will likely be gone. After he lights it up at the combine.

I know BL has studied Sanu closely and I wonder how Sanu compares to Britt as a WR. They seem close athleticly and Sanu appears to run better routes at this point in his college career. IMHO

I took Criner because I think Jones will go in the 1st round. I like McNutt as well but think he's a late 2nd rounder. I think Wright is a late 2nd or early 3rd rounder and like Sanu just as well as Criner in the 2nd round, I've just watched Criner more than Sanu at this point.

Sanu is a more versatile weapon in space. Got serious jumps, will compete work hard & help team do whatever needs to be done, very humble & low key. Deceptive speed, takes choppy steps with ability to cut @ moments notice. Picks the ball using large, strong hands opposed to cradle & body catcher like Britt. Sanu strikes me as the type of outstanding young man who wants to please mom & earn his degree first before he leaves for the NFL. So I think he stays in school & comes out next year a solid 1st rd. pick.

I chose Thorpe as a cover FS more than a hitter, I want someone who can help cover the field and as a former CB I think he has the skill to play centerfield. He's strictly a depth player and will hopefully make Barber expendable. Jerod-Eddie is simply a training camp body/competition for me who can add some depth and/or might work his way into a rotation, I'm not looking at him as a replacement for anyone. Actually he probably goes to the practice squad for emergency depth. I think Tyler can be a sleeper as well and although he's rated higher than the 7th round all RB's have been getting devalued the last few years because it's been easy to find guys to produce from the late rounds.

I agree completely. Coach made himself look like an ass and is another reason why I think Washington turns pro after his junior year. This and all the Miami investigation going on by the NCAA, Washington probably wants to distance himself.
