Money Questions and the draft!

This is a VY and Bush thread on the money aspect of the Texans. Both guys are great players, but will money be an over riding factor in what happens? Some of you have more knowledge of this area than I do, but I want to lay our what I believe the scenarios are going to be.

1) The Texans signed Carr to an extension. I believe this complicates the situation for a VY acquisition. An accountant would say what you have already paid someone has no bearing on your decision at this point in time. What matters is will you make more from this point forward by taking a particular action.

How do we take Vince Young and keep David Carr? I believe the only way that could happen is if VY says he will take a contract which is way under value or some how they negoiate a contract that does not have much value in the 1st couple of years.

The other would be that David Carr renegoiates his current contract downward by a substantial amount.

2) We take Vince Young and trade David Carr. I believe this is the only way we would get rid of the Cap problem and David's contract without having a real impact on the ball club. Basically, I believe we would have to give David away to someone who would take over all of the responsibility of his contract and we would probably get nothing in return except to be free of that contract and therefore free to assume one with VY. David would benefit by getting the money at least for this year. I don't think they could renegoiate his exsisting contract with another club without having a financial impact on the Texans.

3) We take Bush and obviously we retain Carr. The question I still have here is do we have enough money available to have both Bush and Carr on the same ball club?

Would Carr have to renegoiate his contract once he knows he will remain with the Texans and that he has Reggie Bush as a play maker?

Another possibility is we trade Carr at this point to a team who assumes this contract and pick up a QB other than VY. I doubt this would happen, but I'm not certain as to what the money situation is with respect to either VY and Bush. Neither is probably going to come cheap.

4) The Texans decide they want to keep Carr, but they can't afford either VY or Bush and draft DBRIC or the TE from Maryland. They are expensive, but not in the league with VY or Bush. This would probably involve a trade allowing us additional Draft picks as well.

You are forgetting that DD signed a deal in the 21M range just last year also.

Good point, because that could be another factor for not taking either Bush or VY and taking someone like D'Brick. Again we are simply talking about money and the cap not the capability of the players per se.

i would definantly get wade to restructure, no way a no-name lineman should be 5mil against the cap.
And if Wade justs says NO? McNair said in the week before the CBA was resolved that the Texans had been over the cap for 04 & 05 and could be for 2006 "for the right player". If the Texans want Bush or Young, the $ will be found.

Just to be clear--McNair was talking about the payroll not the cap. No team can be over the cap, but the actual money spent in a year, the payroll, can exceed the cap because of the proration of signing bonuses. It's nice to see McNair is willing to spend the money as needed but repeatedly having the payroll exceed the cap may result in the chickens coming home and finding the coop has been repossessed.
