I decided to try my luck at another mock draft this year. Like the former years, my whole draft is solely based on stuff I read on the Internet and mock drafts - since I can't really follow college football here in Germany. Still, I invested some time trying to find good, realistic picks at positions of need. Let me know what you think!
Round 1 OT Menelik Watson
Despite popular opinion I actually view RT as our biggest hole - and I like the depth at WR this draft (we won't get an AJ replacement anyways, and I believe we can get a good #2 WR in the second round). Watson has all the talent, but he is a littler rawer than I'd like. Still, he could and should anchor our right side for years to come and greatly improve our running game while also improving our passing game.
Round 2 WR Terrance Williams
Williams has good speed, good size, good hands, good route running - he just doesn't really excell in any area. That probably keeps him from becoming a true #1, but he is someone that the other teams need to respect. And he seems to be pretty NFL ready. I say we go for a true successor to AJ somewhere in the future (maybe Falcons style) and be content with a really good #2 is season.
Round 3 pick 1 OLB Corey Lemonier
We need depth at OLB and Lemonier is a natural pass rusher with a ton of upside. Should be in the rotation early and might actually push Reed inside on passing plays. Still needs to work on shedding blockers and on the running game, but I like his upside in the 3d.
Round 3 pick 2 ILB A.J. Klein
Some might view that as a reach, but he is a fast riser. When you google him what you will read most often is "better than expected" - a very smart player with very good overall production. He is a very good tackler but misses some strength. Still, with our trainers he could be a starter by the end if the year...
Round 4 TE Nick Kasa
We love multiple TE sets and Kasa coule fit in really well - he has lots of upside. The former DE is really tall and really strong, yet surprisingly fast. But he is pretty raw - he could help early as a blocker while developing better route running and awareness.
Round 5 FB Zach Line
We've seen how much a true FB can help our running game (and pass protection and receiving game actually...). Zach Line does everything he is supposed to do well and could be a starter day 1 - and who knows, he could even play some HB for us.
Round 6 pick 1 S Robert Lester
A Nick Saban DB that could be true center fielder sometime down the road. A bit of a project but he could be a ball hawk for us. If he is available I'd definetly bite.
Round 6 pick 2 DT Lawrence Okoye
Yeah, he is a circus pick with huge bust potential. But he is a great story and I love great stories, and he is a physical freak with great mental attributes. He might turn into a star as far we we know, and I would be willing to take a six rounder on him...
Round 7 DE Baker Steinkuhler
Could provide decent depth at both DT and DE. Nice production in college, hard worker and former teammate of Jared Crick.
