Lions | Millen Agrees to Extension
Wed, 3 Aug 2005 08:27:02 -0700

The Associated Press reports the Detroit Lions have agreed to a five-year extension with team president Matt Millen. Lions owner William Clay Ford Sr. announced the deal Wednesday, Aug. 3. Millen said that he agreed to the deal last month, but the announcement was delayed to avoid taking the focus off the team. The contract extension will run through the 2010 season. Detroit has gone 16-48 since Millen was hired in 2001, including a league-record 24-game road losing streak.

Don't know what dirt Millen has on Ford, but it must be filthy.

This is the NFL though and there are no guaranteed contracts. I bet he will be given a year and if the team does not make positive strides he is gone.

Players don't get guaranteed contracts. GMs & coaches usually do.

Millen blew the roster up.
And did a complete rebuild which isn't done often in the NFL anymore.
As a rookie GM

He also got rid of the *****s in our front office

Assembled the most talented team of Lions that I have ever seen. And has had 3 great offseasons in a row. Has had 2 great trades in the last 2 drafts to bring in Shaun Cody and Kevin Jones.

The guy went from 0 to hero in 3 years.

Probably naked photos of Ford driving a Chevy...

Putting aside Ihate's lovefest, Millen is one more bad season away from being the laughingstock of NFL general managers. I guess we'll have to see what happens...

You don't know how talented this bunch is. You can only speculate at this point. It seems like MM was signed based on the POTENTIAL and future of this team, not the present. I'm not sure I would make the same call if I were running things.

I would let this season go. If the Lions finish 10-6 or better, fine you can have your extension. If they can't get into the playoffs I'll give you ONE more year to get there. What would he do? Turn it down? There are 32 NFL GM positions in the entire world. You can't walk away from one that easily, and if he did, there are always talented people waiting to fill his shoes.
