I don't see S either. He's listed at 6-2 231. That may be gracious of course, but if he's even approaching that it ain't like he's going to get any smaller passing the age of 20 while going into a pro strength & conditioning program.

I know a lot of people don't like him fit-wise for our D, but I think a DC worth his salt, as I believe RAC is, can appreciate finding ways to take advantage of a player like Shaq's considerable talents. His athleticism, aggression, instincts, and motor should be able to find a home as an anti-LEO backer here in covering TE's, chasing ball carriers sideline to sideline, and finding the right timing to cut loose and run downhill against the LOS. I wouldn't be bummed to hear his name at 16.

It would be nice to have a LB/S that can cover a TE. I believe Thompson is a stud and a playmaker like that you can put him in positions to succeed. I wouldn't be disappointed if he was the pick at 16.

1.Grayson is accurate. Looks like Schaub coming out of college.
2. Love Duke Johnson- Speed, tough runner, blocker, can catch the ball, if there in the 3rd he would be a great pick, Warrick Dunn
3. Agreed about Cann.
4. Peat isn't a finished product. He is strong and has great feet. Need to improve technique and concentration. Would love to see what Devlin could do with this talented ball of clay. Love him at 16.
5. Collins is my favorite OL in this class. Big tough mean streak with good enough feet to play either OT position. If moved to OG he will become a pro bowl type player. Sam Martin.
6. Fowler is a player.
7. Beasley reminds me of Mathis/Aldon Smith the way he can bend and run the arc. Spends too much time on the ground in the run game.
7. Love Paul Dawson, best LB in this draft. No problem picking him at 16. Playmaker
8. McKinney- Agreed. Think he could make an impact as a rush OLB.
9. Love Jalen Collins, he could start and be a very good CB as a rookie. Future all pro as a FS.
10. PJ Williams is going to be the best CB when all is said and done. Guy has all of the tools.
11. Like Landon Collins but wouldn't pick him before the 2nd rd.
12. Why wasn't Prewitt listed? I like him as much or more than Collins. If Prewitt falls to the Texans in the 3rd then he would be my pick. Rick Smith should run the card to the podium himself.

I don't have too much to quibble with. No two people will have the same exact list.

I do think that Prewitt is still being overlooked. He is the best S in the draft to me. None of the national draftniks are high on him, and he seems to be dropping like a rock now that all the games are over. Something tells me that NFL scouts won't rate him that way.

Thompson was recruited to Washington as a S but he won't be playing there in the NFL. He has outgrown that position. I think his best fit is as a 43 WLB. And he would absolutely kill it on a Cover Two defense. Derrick Brooks potential in that kind of system.

I think people are going to absolutely freak out when Tevin Coleman and Jay Ajayi end up as the best pro RBs in this class.

I prefer Thompson at LB but I could see a team trying him out as a Kam Chancellor type box Safety. He's very athletic and he's a great player in space.

You could use him like the Cardinals used Deone Bucannon as a rookie last year (i.e. box Safety on run downs and LB on pass downs).

I'm also still not getting the gap between Collins and Prewitt on most analysts lists. Don't get me wrong, Collins is great at what he does, but he's a downhill Safety who struggles in coverage. Prewitt is adept at coming downhill and also has great range playing downfield. I don't understand why he's so under the radar.

So comparitively speaking with recent Drafts how does this one stack up ? And I dunno, but my early impression is that it's a relatively strong Draft.

Relatively strong. I don't see a lot of blue chippers (like 2011), but there is a lot of depth at many positions through the middle rounds. It's a good draft to have a lot of picks (and I think the Texans will have as many as 4 compensatory selections).

This

Although this yrs draft while deep isn't as good or deep as last yrs draft. IMHO

They can find yr 1 contributors if they do the work in the 3rd/4th rds.

Hopefully BOB/Gaine are running this yrs draft. If so, the Texans will be in good shape. They are both grinders.

Mayock: Forty will determine Rollins' future
NFL Media's Mike Mayock believes the forty yard dash will be a large portion of scouts' evaluation of Miami (OH) DB Quinten Rollins.
"It'll be a whole different evaluation for this kid, as a corner or a free safety, all based on what he runs the forty yard dash in," Mayock said. The draft evaluator does praise Rollins' ball skills and quickness to disrupt routes. We will continue to say it in relation to prospects' Combine performances, but rather than focus on a singular score look at the web of results.

Mayock: WR White goes top 10 with 4.5 forty
NFL Media's Mike Mayock believes West Virginia WR Kevin White will be a top 10 pick if he runs a 4.5 forty or better.
"The only question is his long speed, and there is a huge difference between (White) running 4.58 and 4.48," Mayock said. This might seem simple, but the NFL certainly can buy into this line of thinking. However, we think the best teams do not. The Combine absolutely does matter, but rather than a singular result or event, look at the prospect's entire athletic web.

Good stuff because it goes to confirm the notion of e of the imporatance of the 40 if only for a couple position groups, and one of them being the CBs, which is as most agree the most challenging and difficult position to play in the NFL second only to QB. And why does it confirm that ? Because Mayoc is one of the best analysts of college talent headed for the pros and his highest area of expertise is probably found in the are of the DBACKS.

Mayock's first conference call ongoing, will have full transcript later.

Here's some tweets/nuggets...

Mike Mayock Conference Call/Feb. 16, 2015

Dorial Green-Beckham as 'gifted as anyone in the class' but notes baggage. Says Perriman a potential first-rounder

Amari Cooper, Kevin White, DeVante Parker all consensus top 20 picks at wide receiver.

Draft is extremely deep at running back and wide receiver, not a strong quarterback or safety class

Brett Hundley should "show up and rip it" at Combine. Things that are hurting him are anticipation and pocket awareness. "I don’t think he can change what the negatives are about him by throwing 20 passes in shorts."

UCF WR Breshad Perriman has first round talent.

On the Bucs at No. 1: "I don't envy Jason, Lovie and that group."

There's a big concern whether Winston can be "face of franchise." With Mariota "you don't have any worries off the field."

I have serious doubts about Mariota putting it together in a pro-style offense.

I think the Bucs will end up taking Jameis Winston at No. 1.

"You have to talk WR when you’re talking about Kansas City. At 18, you’re probably looking at 2nd, third and fourth WR"

Michigan WR/TE Funchess could be a candidate to go 18th overall. Andrus Peat as well.

Brandon Scherff is the top OL, but have him as an inside player.

It's too early to say whether Mariota slips to Jets at 6.

I love the upside of Pitt OT T.J. Clemmings, but he's raw after playing offense for only two years.

There's a chance DeVante Parker falls to the Chiefs.

"David Johnson from Northern Iowa is really intriguing, David Cobb from Minnesota is a tough, downhill runner."

Texas DT Malcom Brown is a first-rounder "all day long."

It's difficult to package No. 12 & 19 for a question mark at QB; says WR and RT make sense.

Brett Hundley and Bryce Petty are the best two quarterbacks after Winston/Mariota.

Jaelen Strong is a 2nd-rounder who could jump to 1st with good 40.

La'El Collins is the best RT prospect in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Jalen Collins is a fit for the Eagles at No. 20.

I project Washington linebacker Shaq Thompson to safety, rank him behind Alabama safety Landon Collins

The Eagles can get good ILB in 2nd: Eric Kendricks, Perryman (Miami). Also likes Philly kid Ibraheim Campbell, S, in middle rds.

Kevin White ranked ahead of Amari Cooper because he thinks he has a higher ceiling.

Dante Fowler is comparable to Justin Houston.

Delaware TE Nick Boyle really "opened some eyes" at Senior Bowl. More athletic than people thought.

Ravens likely to go WR, CB or edge rusher in first round.

Denzel Perryman reminds me a little bit of Jon Beason -- undersized but a guy who makes plays.

Duke G Laken Tomlinson could be a good Day 2 option for the Lions.

I'm high on Ereck Flowers; that tape against Nebraska and Florida State really popped.

The Raiders at No. 4 could find Derek Carr some help with one of Kevin White, Amari Cooper or DeVante Parker.

Mettenberger not a normal 6th-round pick. If I'm TEN hoping I think I can win with him, have more options at top of draft.

I have no problem with the Panthers taking a receiver at No. 25 as a best-available pick. Green-Beckham and Funchess are possibilities.

"I seem to be in the minority with the media people having Dante Fowler No. 1 pass rusher."

Atlanta Falcons' biggest need clearly an edge pass rusher.

Washington DT Danny Shelton is a top 10 pick to me. Reminds me of Haloti Ngata.

Pitt OL T.J. Clemmings should get the call in the 15-25 range of the first round.

Devin Smith can track deep ball like center fielder and that's rare. When you combine with speed, big weapon.

Ohio State CB Doran Grant is the kind of kid I'd bet on because of work ethic. He'll likely be picked in mid rounds.

I'd like Dante Fowler best as potential OLB for a 3-4 scheme at No. 7 if Bears go that route.

I see Maxx Williams as a second-rounder.

Mayock on Jaguars draft: "I think a stud coming off the edge would make the most difference for the Jaguars at No. 3. Best case is someone wants to come up and get a quarterback.”

"Mallet throws with zip"

"6'8", 290 and he's a baby." Mike Mayock on #Oregon DE Arik Armstead. Said he's going to grow into something major. Can play 3-4 DE

#Miami T Ereck Flowers could potentially become a pro-bowl right tackle. Maybe a left tackle.

Mike Mayock thinks Malcom Brown will be drafted somewhere between 20 and 32.

"He reminds me of Richard Seymour" -- Mayock on #USC Leonard Williams -- says he can play any position on any DL.

Mike Mayock calls Nelson Agholor "one of my favorite route runners in the draft."

I have a solid 3rd Round grade on Poutasi and see a powerful Right Guard in the NFL.

Mayock says #UVA DE Eli Harold is a 2nd round pick. Dominant film against Miami. Needs to put on weight.

Mayock calls RB David Johnson an intriguing kid.would like him to be more consistently physical.3rd round could go higher

Two potential replacements if Lions cut Reggie Bush are Miami's Duke Johnson and Nebraska's Ameer Abdullah. Both 2nd-rounders.

I have eight running backs graded as 1st, 2nd or 3rd round picks.

Browns may target at 19: Jordan Phillips, Arik Armstead, Malcom Brown, Eddie Goldman.

Mayock says there's nothing Mariota can do this week to elevate or drop. Biggest test at combine is team meetings, he'll ace those.

WR Sammie Coates is a 2nd round pick: "The concern with him is does he have natural hands."

Trae Waynes very comfortable in press coverage says Mayock. Good length, competitiveness & will tackle.

Duke's Laken Tomlinson could have Larry Warford-like impact for Detroit Lions

Mayock: I would not draft Mariota 7th as a replacement for Cutler. Cutler too physically gifted vs. Mariota questions.”

Mayock loves Markus Golden's hustle. Worried about short arms and his ability to get off blocks in the run game, but sees an NFL future.

Mayock comp: Raiders RB Darren McFadden and Indiana RB Tevin Coleman.

Concerns about Vic Beasley is that he is under-powered, says Mayock.

Mayock says he likes @UW linebacker Shaq Thompson as "kind of a Kam Chancellor" like safety.

Mayock was not so generous in his praise of Danielle Hunter, whom he said should have stayed in school another season, an assertion made by other analysts. Hunter, who is 6-6 and 240, led the Tigers with 13 tackles for loss but had only 1.5 sacks. NFL teams look for pass rushing from defensive ends and Mayock said Hunter has a long way to go.

"I was surprised he came out," he said. "I saw three of his game tapes. I certainly can see the upside. Right now he's underpowered. He gets pushed around in the run game. I see his upside as a pass rusher but he's so raw, he doesn't know what he's doing yet. I question how much production he can have next year.

"Had he stayed in school another year, put on 10 pounds and learned some more technique, he might have been a much higher pick. He's no better than a fourth-round pick right now."

I'm getting the vibe that Tevin will be a stud. I am just hoping we are in a position to grab him with an extra pick. In reality, getting a second for moving down from 16 to 17 or 18 isn't likely. But it works on the games. If you have two or three players of approximately equal weight and you can pick up a mid second to move down, you do it in a heartbeat.

I agree with Mayock on these things.

I love the upside of Pitt OT T.J. Clemmings, but he's raw after playing offense for only two years.

I've pretty much been saying all that for awhile now.

and this is ridiculous.

I think we will trade down for additional picks. Doubt if we will be going after the big names...

Better have more than a couple guys rated equally to move down, then you have to find a dance partner

I love Mayock as an analyst. He obviously has a mind for the game and notices the little things that most people miss while watching.

But as a talent evaluator he does nothing for me. He's different, he doesn't work for ESPN, and he uses a lot of buzz words ("bubble butt", "twitchy"). I'm assuming that is why people like him.

I still like him. And I enjoy listening to him talk. But I'd take anything he says in an evaluation with a grain of salt. JMO.

I haven't heard word one from Mayock at the Combine...

Watched it all online with mostly Bucky, Solomon, and Lance Zierlein commentary...

I'll tell you, LZ ups NFL Combine's game 1,000%. Talks technical football terms... explains it if needed... imparts a lot of info in a short take... backs his opinions up...

Best part was him interviewing his dad Larry on OLine traits. Great stuff.

But yeah, you give Mike 7 hours to fill and he's going to say a few things that come off as kooky.

That was good. But, the best part of the combine on NFL.com was Molly Qerim.

Agreed

Mayock: Four WRs will be among top 20 picks in 2015 NFL Draft
The 2014 class of wide receivers could be the best crop produced at the position in a single draft, but most believe the 2015 class is not too far behind in terms of talent and depth.

NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock has watched plenty of tape on players from both classes, and he unveiled his top 10 at the position in this year's draft on Monday. West Virginia's Kevin White (No. 1) and Alabama's Amari Cooper (No. 2) lead Mayock's list, and he offered an interesting description of the upside of each.

"Kevin White has the highest ceiling of any wide receiver in the draft," Mayock said on NFL Network's "Path to the Draft" Monday. "... I think (Cooper) has the highest floor. That means you know what you're going to get from him and he's going to play at a high level."

The debate over which receiver is better between White and Cooper will likely continue for some time, as the race to be the first pass-catcher picked appears to be extremely tight.

One big riser in Mayock's rankings, though, is UCF's Breshad Perriman, who ran a blistering fast 4.25 40-yard dash at his pro day last week. Mayock previously had Perriman tied for fifth in his rankings, but that 40 time moved him neck and neck with Louisville's DeVante Parker, per Mayock, who said he believes that all four -- White, Cooper and Perriman and Parker -- will go in the top 20 of the draft while Arizona State's Jaelen Strong (No. 5) sneaks into the bottom of the first round.

Also of note, Mayock appears to be quite high on his No. 8 prospect at the position, USC's Nelson Agholor, after he had a good month that included positive reviews out of his pro day.

"One of the best route runners in this draft," Mayock said. "I think he has more upside than (former USC WRs) Robert Woods or Marqise Lee."

1. Kevin White
Amari Cooper
Breshad Perriman/DeVante Parker

6. Dorial Green-Beckham
Phillip Dorsett
Nelson Agholor
Devin Smith
Tyler Lockett

Mayock ranks Oklahoma's Dorial Green-Beckham No. 6, followed by Miami's Phillip Dorsett, Agholor, Ohio State's Devin Smith and Kansas State's Tyler Lockett.

It might be tough to match the production of last year's class of rookie wide receivers, but it certainly appears that the latest group will not be lacking for talent when it enters the league.

what is behind the rise and falls? Beasley is only on I know of that has done something stoopid

Mike Mayoc in his latest players ranking has Mariota as his highest rate QB.
I dunno, wonder what's happened lately for him to change his mind about the
rankings of the top 2 QBs ?

He explained it. The more he watches film he can't come up with good reasons for Winston's INTs. And he can see Mariota is actually making reads contrary to cursory descriptions of their O.

Hate to toot my own horn here but I've been saying the same thing for months, before the season was even over.

Winston is an impulsive decision maker with the ball. That's a problem that I don't think can be fixed. And it's the main reason that I wouldn't draft him. I'm not saying that he won't be productive in the NFL, but he is going to be an INT machine too. That's not ideal to me.

A recent mock has the Texans selecting Jalen Collins (CB) at 16. It's my understanding he is coming off a foot injury, or possible surgery but is slated to be ready to go for camp. What is DNC's take on this player and his injury?

Not like Winston. Luck threw 22 INTs in 1064 attempts at Stanford. Winston had 28 picked off in 851 attempts. What's more concerning is that he nearly doubled his interception rate as a sophomore from his freshman year. Just sayin'.

Mayock: draft risers

NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock has finally come in from the coast-to-coast pro-day circuit, and after talking with various coaches, scouts, and general managers, he's gotten a better sense of who is rising and falling in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Not surprisingly, Mayock's list of the top-five fastest risers included wide receivers -- USC's Nelson Agholor (No. 1) and UCF's Breshad Perriman (No. 3) -- but there were a few others that turned some heads the past month, too.

"Second is Mario Edwards out of Florida State. Back in August, he was over 300 pounds," Mayock said. "At the combine, 279 -- 272 at his pro day. Now he looks like a base defensive end who can kick inside on sub-packages. That gets some teams excited. The question is, though, now that you're paying him as a second-round pick, which guy are you getting, the 300-pounder or the 272-pounder with an edge?"

Mayock's remark that some teams are viewing Edwards as a defensive end, probably in 3-4 schemes, is interesting, given that fellow analyst Daniel Jeremiah said Edwards' playing weight and position are what made him such a difficult prospect to evaluate. Edwards has been mentioned as high as a first-round selection but will probably go early on Day 2.

Another pass rusher who is shooting up boards, according to Mayock, is Bud Dupree from Kentucky.

"The tape is inconsistent, but as coaches get involved, they want to work with this piece of clay," Mayock said. "He's got everything you want in a Pro Bowl edge rusher except consistency."

Dupree turned some heads at the NFL Scouting Combine with those raw tools that Mayock mentioned, and it's not hard to see a scenario where he goes in the top 15.

Don't forget Mayock's fifth-fastest riser in the draft, either -- Arizona State's Damarious Randall was just bumped to Mayock's No. 3 safety in the draft, and Mayock believes he is the best man-coverage player at the position.

I'm talking at the pro level. College stats mean little to me. The competition is just not there in college like it is in the pros. The best of the best and all.

Then it should be even more of a concern when a guy is throwing INTs at the rate that Winston does, especially when his team is the one with the competitive advantage.

This isn't Matt Ryan throwing loads of INTs because he's forcing things and trying to drag a team with little NFL talent to a 10 win season, which is a comparison I've actually heard.

Winston's team has more NFL talent than probably any team in the country. And they certainly have more than the teams that they play against. Stats don't mean everything, but they can be a useful tool. It is a huge red flag when you are in that kind of superior situation to your opponents and still can't take care of the ball.

Agreed. I'm glad it's not us with a top five pick, even though I like Winston, I'd be on the fence about us taking him that high. I'd like to see a guy start at least three years before taking him that high.

Expectations change, after winning a championship as a freshman... or the Heisman, or whatever. Being able to play at a high level when you're expected to, when teams are "game planning" for you... it's totally different. Especially with the spot light that would have been on him.

Those "facts" didn't work too well in McCarron's favor.

Those "facts" didn't work too well in McCarron's favor.

McCarron actually had the opposite problem.

His issue wasn't that he didn't take care of the ball, because he was actually great at that. He was a master of Alabama's offense and operated it to perfection.

His issue was that there were a few times his team needed to lean on him to make plays because the offense as designed wasn't having the desired success, and he couldn't deliver. That is what led to the thought that without the built in talent advantage he wouldn't be able to deliver wins when the other team was just as talented as his.

Surprises me that Mayock still has Gregory ranked that high (no pun intended) given his problem with flunking the pot test ? I mean didn't he take Winston down a notch because of off-field issues ?

I will be so happy when we can get passed this whole Pot thing. (It's happening right now) Alcohol is by far a more destructive substance not only mentally, but physically, but they don't test them for booze do they? What these people do on their free time is none of my business, nor anyone else'. If they show up, fulfill their contractual obligations, there should be no infringement of their right to a private life. They are playing sports for phucs sake, not running for the POTUS. Even more ironic is many of our former POTUS have all partaken, but they were not denied the highest office in the land. But let a 20 something athlete smoke a joint, and the whole world is coming unglued.

Spare me any arguments about legality. If you have any idea of the history of cannabis and why it is illegal you won't bother. Let's just say it's not for the betterment of humanity. Anyone who still believes in the "Reefer Mania" propaganda is a stooge. This "Schedule 1" cannabis fairy tale has gone on long enough.

If someone comes to the biggest job interview of their life either drunk or having smoked pot within a time-frame where the evidence is still in their blood-stream, this is a problem. The problem is that they drank or that they smoked put but when they drank and/or when they smoked pot. It shows a lack of discipline, a lack of willpower, and a lack of judgment.

Considering the amounts of money these kids will be getting and the sort of lifestyle that will present itself to them, this is a huge red flag.

I don't care if someone smokes pot. I don't care if someone drinks. But I do care if they have such poor judgment that their smoking and drinking may negatively impact their ability to stay on the field for my team for whatever reason.
