Mel Kiper: Texas DB Huff the next Ronnie Lott

Kaiser Toro

Native Mod
Have not seen the article, just the headline. Did anyone hear or read the article? That is a bold statement, but I do like Huff.

I think it is just a one liner in his latest mock draft:

The San Francisco 49ers need help at a lot of positions, especially in the secondary. That's why in this week's updated first-round projections for the NFL draft, I have the 49ers taking Texas defensive back Michael Huff with the seventh pick. Huff is versatile, can play both cornerback and safety, and reminds me a lot of former 49er Ronnie Lott.

he definitely reminds me of ed reed and troy polamalu. ronnie lott is a bold comparison, but he will be one of the league's best in a few years

Huff should be a great prospect, but keep in mind that Kiper will throw out 4-5 articles a day of this nature and change his predictions so many times before the draft that you should take his predictions and what he says with a grain of salt. I think he keeps throwing out all these variations of mocks so that when any guy is taken in the draft, he can say that at one point in time he predicted that pick and knew it would happen and how he's so smart for knowing that ahead of time and he thinks it's a great pick....

Although I'm totally put off with all the crap on this Board about VY and other
UT players, I can honestly still be objective and say that Huff's interception in his EZ in the Senior Bowl was a tremendous play. Actually I'd say it was the single most impressive play in that ball game. So by definition, this guy
Huff is a playmaker and he deserves the kudos.

Huff didn't go to the Senior Bowl, I think you are thinking about Cedric Griffin.

hmmm.... is nunusguy blindly hating on UT players? seems like that is a possibility now that he just showed he doesn't know the difference between cedric griffin and michael huff.

Huff is a big time CB/FS tweener guy and would love to have him. Looks like he is a solid first rounder now so that is a long shot. He is not a Ronnie Lott type player, but maybe more of a ED Reed or guy like that that is a ball hawk playmaker back there.

Not at all, I will give credit where credit is do. Which ever UT DB made the interception in the EZ, it was the play of the game in the Senior Bowl as far as I'm concerned and on the basis of that play, he's a big time playmaker IMO. As a matter of fact, arguable the best play of the Rose Bowl was made when a UT DB made the interception, stepped on the goal line, went out
of bounds, and UT got the ball on their own 20. OK, which DB was that guy ?

That was FS Michael GRIFFIN (no relation to CB Cedric Griffin.) I actually think he is faster than M.Huff and will be better coming out of the draft next year.:spy: Never too early to scout for next year:)

Michael Huff, 6?1? 205lbs.
(2005 stats)
97 tackles, 9 TFL,
1 INT, 2 sacks, 14 PBU
4FF, 1FR for TD, 1 blocked FG

Michael Griffin, 6?0?, 205lbs
(2005 stats)
116 tackles, 4 TFL
2 INT, 7 PBU
1 FF, 3 FR, 4 blocked punts
(recorded 23 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 blocked punt VS. A&M)

michael griffin is SERIOUS, that guy is going to do big thangs next year i guarentee it.

Yeah, I really LOVE the way he plays....he flies around the field w/ reckless abandon, much like D.Slay this year...if the Texans don't address the FS position this year, I'd love to see him there next year....Wow!

I've never seen Ronnie Lott get run over before but during the RB Huff got thrown under the truck when he tried to stop White on one play.

Griffin is a special player. I REALLY like that guy.

I love griffin as well, but hes not in huff's league as far as speed goes.

I really like Huff, he should make a major impact in the league in a couple of years and he should be considered picking up, I think trading down and drafting him

Didn't seem to bother Huff that much. All he did was call his own # on that last 4th down, stuffing Lendale for the W. Huff wasn't even supposed to be blitzing that gap. He's a big time player.

I like Michael Huff....... really, I do....... but Ronnie Lott?? Troy polamalu?? those guys are awesome....... Polamalu..... is fast.... really fast... Ronnie(remember how he could cover the whole field, and all 11 offensive players by himself on techmobowl??).

He got run over on that play, but wasn't he still holding on?? allowing the cavalry time to get their slow butts over there??

hes a hybrid of both.

He doesnt cover as well as Reed

He doesnt play the run as well as Polamalu

But hes very solid in both aspects, with his specialty being coverage.

I'm no tackling expert, but you can't get run over and hold some to let someone else help you tackle a person. Now if you said that White hit Huff than that would be a more accurate statement. Huff was consistently going after White and Byrd even though those guys were much larger than he. Huff also was a sprinter on the Texas track team
